Wasp....I agree. Notice how he made a Surgeon loop knot at end of his Leader??. Well that would allow for quick changes; say if perch leader got damaged ect. So you simply make your droppers the same way, except pass that loop Through 5 times , then cut the loop . Ive tried many methods that were not quickband easy. Good Fishing to ya!!
DROPPER LINE: Very Good way . I knew about the surgeon's knot, but not the way you did it for the the loop, running the it through 5 times. I have tried other methods, but this appears to be the fastest, and prevents fumbling with lines. Thanks again!
I made a couple of those rigs for pier fishing the Outer Banks in North Carolina. I caught croakers, spots, sea mullet (whiting), flounders, a bluefish, and a gray trout (weakfish) all on squid strips. Thank you so much for showing how to make such a simple and effective rig:)
I really never thought about making my own rig before, I can now use some of that old catfish line I have, and use some of my own hooks. Thanks for saving me money!
Hahaha. Fishing is my main hobby Buddy. I know my knots and rigs, trust me, but you don't know how many rigs that I have tied based on your video. Lots. Some times I run across your video and watch it again to the end, just to see your eyes flash when you take the shades off. Nice touch.
Awesome Bill! Your editing skills are as great as your fishing skills! This has to be the most entertaining as well as educational video I've seen! Thanks man! ☝👏👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎣
Finally! Been looking all over to find that two hook tutorial. Thanks Bill the perch king! Great video! Oh and hey, please stop smoking, you'll add lots more fishing day to your life. Be well and fish on! Mark
Used a very similar rig for surf fishing today, this rig has many useful features. 1) It's all one line.. meaning it's strong! 2) Weight is fixed on the bottom, having weights in the middle kill a little line sensitivity and can cause your line to spin when cast and tangle. 3) Your bait is JUST off the bottom and the other can be floating 8" off the bottom. This way your bait won't get buried in sand and be more visible.
Similar kind of rig my grandfather taught me when I was a kid. Its a strong rig. I like using this set up more than perch spreaders. I think its easier to control, less line twist, plus if you're ice fishing forget about using a spreader!
Excellent. Super useful to get your description as you are tying with a close up view...and then get the diagram. Thanks. You find a spinner blade helps?
sweet set up! i'll have to try that 'cause i plan on going out in lake michigan this spring & trying for some jumbo perch! great video & instruction also
I do something very similar to this. Sometimes I do add a snap on the bottom and add 6 lb test line to my sinker just to make sure it's the sinker that breaks off.
i do this with 4# mono line and i dont cut the loops. just twist and pinch put through eye of hook open loop wrap around hook and cinch. dont need to tie on hooks. and you can easily put bigger ones on if you want to target largemouth bass/. or put little hooks on for sunfish, or lures ect. . i usually do the 5 wrap surgeon not since its fast to tie. but i used to do a dropper loop knot. which i do use for ocean rock fishing too. though that one slips on me sometimes and i dont know why. but since i put hooks on differently i even landed fish when it slipped it turned it more into a drop shot rig since it could slip past the eye of hook.
I have never caught or targeted yellow perch because where I live there almost no yellow perch but I'm hoping to try it this spring. Would it not be easier to just just a pickerel rig or would the steal wires keep the perch away?
big steel rigs dont bother perch most of the time - lot of guys use steel spreader rigs but when they are finicky this rig can put a few more fish in the cooler
the only change i would make is getting non coated hooks, incase the hook rips off the fish has a better chance to lose the hook as it can rust which the gold one can't... love the vids dude... keep em coming
didn't go;( came down w/ a mean cold/flu yesterday. was gonna take the dog to that grove/ck. I told ya about but started to hail here as soon as I went to leave so just stayed home n watched "hockey day in USA" and your vids. n dreamed! lol ttyl throat fweels like I drank battery acid or somethin!
Hey bro,I lucked out today, went to the warm water outlet spot(Cleveland)after the outdoors show & some dude gave me a 4 pound(ish) steelie..they were nailin" em,of course not as nice as WNY but it was cool! goin back there to fish asap! I'll send you an email w/a picture, pickin up a smoker 2mrw @ the scrapyard!,guy was using powerb8/dropshot rig,got some killer deals @ the show too! c ya
Awesome bro (as usual)! nice double header too! are you gonna do any open water fishin" this w/e?..my buddy Steve(that I was out w/ sun.when.....) are goin 2 the river 2mrw. night n sun. afternoon 4 steelhead using trout beads, wish ya" could join us lol we could use your good skill's! talk to ya l8r...keep em comin"!
@clacustomwoodworking....I couldn't agree more!...same w/ my dad also....he would use these for everything(panfish & more) saw him catch a few dbl. headers in his time(I was alot younger) and to this day I have yet to catch a double header!
Question for you, do you fish that rig right off the bottom or let it hit and then reel it up a bit to wait for a bite? Subscribed, good rig and explanation!
I was thinking this might help me with a two lure jerk like that of the zoom double rig...but it's not the same. Then, I thought this might help me to do a double drop shot but it can't too........I like your eyes at the end. Why hold for approval except under racism?
i use 2-4# mono and caught nice sized largemouth bass with this method - cutting the loops. and the og dropper loop not slipping. . sometimes when i would do the dropper loop knot i was taught by some older guys on my first ocean trip it would slip on the bottom side sometimes so then i started using this surgeon knot 5xs and then i havent had problems. practice makes perfect. but ya try the other dropper loop knots maybe those will not slip for you. but ya i never figured out why the other way was slipping for me but im sure it was something i did wrong when cinching since it only slipped like 30% of time. but i did catch like a 2# largemouth and it slipped but since i put hook on different i was still able to still land the fish since it couldnt fully slip out when hook is wrapped on instead of tied on. and then if you are using braid or flouro i cant speak on those types of line i have always used mono my full life.
very bad advice not lubing line. thats how you lose big fish and maybe even small fish. with no lube on line it can cut in on itself and weaken the knot. lubing the line helps for it not to cut in on itself which will land you a lot more fish. even the big ones, on light line. ive caught 5# + fish on 2# mono because i lubed the line when tied the knot.
This has to be the best no bs perch rig tutorial I’ve seen, nicely done 🤘
Glad you liked it!✌

now thats what i call a double hook up
could i use a pompano rig to be the same thing

ohhh , springtime where art thou?
Do not use spit for wetting the line. It degrades it. Great rig though.

I didn't say don't "wet" or lube. I just stated that saliva is bad. I'm sorry you had to type all that. Tight lines.
