It's crazy to think a Gen 1 Pokémon like Starmie was able to stay in OU for as long as it did. Still one of the best Water Types. I think they add an extra 30 points to its BST. It would be OU material at minimum again.
They could drop its Attack from 75 to 65 (people don't really relay on Rapid Spin or Attack stat in general for damage when it comes to Starmie), and then reallocate and also boost on top of it all the Speed and SpA stats. Like, I don't know that I'd disagree with your overall point, but the specific line of attack you went for doesn't feel reasonable.
Just as a note: most Pokémon that "don't" say their own name in the English dub of the anime actually do, they just kept their _Japanese_ names for their cry, including Staryu and Starmie.
Starmie is one of my favorite Pokémon, in terms of non competitive lore it’s so underrated and so interesting. It’s battle prowess is just a juicy bonus.
For six generations Starmie was the guardian of peace and balance in OU. Before the dark times...before Greninja. An elegant Pokemon, for a more civilized age.
I've never been that big on competitive pokemon, but in gen 7, I joined a discord server and starmie helped me become the water gym leader there. Really good special atk and speed AND access to rapid spin shut down a surprising amount of challengers' game plan. It worked really well along walls like toxapex and ludicolo as well as monsters like golisopod and mega gyarados
I wish Illuminate gave a 1.3x boost to accuracy like compound eyes. That way Starmie could run blizzard and thunder effectively. And hydro pump wouldn't miss.
Depending on which fangame or romhack you play that type of change actually exists! only one I can remember off the top of my head though is Radical Red.
So basically a re-skinned Compound-Eyes? Would be cool since it actually has the movepool to use it well and it would make up for its now slightly above average at best Special Attack.
I still remember using Starmie in Stadium having absolutely no idea how competitive worked or how good it actually was. Good to see that it's been consistently amazing all throughout the generations, it's one of my favorite Pokémon of all time
Starmie is one of my favorite pokemon this was great and felt in depth exploring how it changed during the duration of the metagames it was in. Hearing starmie was in nu is nuts
Starmie is really underrated honestly and because of "competitive" settings, it's often forgotten that it has one of THE best coverages out of all Pokemon in the game, only beaten out by Mew and 1-2 others, since it can learn a strong, 100% accurate, special move of half of the types in the game (Surf/Scald, Psychic/Psyshock, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Power Gem, Grass Knot, Flash Cannon, Dazzling Gleam and Signal Beam), with a ton of utility as well for both singles and doubles (Rapid Spin, Recover, Icy Wind, dual Screens, Ally Switch, Gravity, even Psych Up for gimmicks)! It's seriously one of the most versatile Pokemon, even if unfortunately 99% of it's moveset is neglected...
Starmie vid was the first one I ever watched from you guys. Crazy to think that was 5 1/2 years ago. Love that the content has been so solid all this time.

It's about time we got a remake for this Pokemon, and considering it remained competitively viable in Singles in just about every generation! Also, Crystal's Pokedex entry is a good explanation as to why it can learn Thunder Wave. Anyway, still waiting on the Netflix series that will be the Tyranitar remake, guys.

A perfect way to give an xmas gift would be with a Starmie video from you, especially of this classic kind. Equally fitting is it for it to be excellent to its very good end in NU

Bolt beam has always been an amazing offensive combo. And gen 6 timid starmie could ohko anyone dumb enough to send out a mega garchomp against them. Which happened more than you'd expect in the 1000-1500 range on the showdown ladder.

Like, I don't know that I'd disagree with your overall point, but the specific line of attack you went for doesn't feel reasonable.
scald is going to be given back to pokemon when pokemon home transfer is made available, same with stuff like knock off
@@Tezighi Scald has returned as a TM as of introduction of the Teal Mask DLC but its distribution has been nerfed (Toxapex no longer gets it).
Considering that rapid spin is good again the fact starmie didn't come back is a shame
I feel like illuminate should have the same in battle effect as compound eyes. It makes the enemy easier to see and also isn’t useless.
Compoundeyes Starmie? So, Hydro Pump, Thunder, Blizzard? That would be SO much fun lol
@@IntrusiveThot420yes let it do just a little more damage
Just as a note: most Pokémon that "don't" say their own name in the English dub of the anime actually do, they just kept their _Japanese_ names for their cry, including Staryu and Starmie.
Ive never heard staryu say Hitodeman
Doesn't really apply in Starmie's case, given that it has the exact same name and cry in both languages.
Starmie is one of my favorite Pokémon, in terms of non competitive lore it’s so underrated and so interesting. It’s battle prowess is just a juicy bonus.
Starmie is a great Pokemon!! I'm so happy you guys remade this video from an eight minute video to an almost hour video!❤️❤️
For six generations Starmie was the guardian of peace and balance in OU. Before the dark times...before Greninja. An elegant Pokemon, for a more civilized age.
looks like im not the only one here who doesnt like that overhyped frog.
Within a minute you know Kevin wrote this, who else would bring up The Thing in a Starmie video
And hydro pump wouldn't miss.
hell even making illuminate reduce the opponents accuracy would be better than... nothing lol.
Ah yes, the iconic ace os misty. She chose a very good pokemon for an ace
Too bad her's is only good in the games.
Except in the anime.
I always find it funny that she used her *Staryu* more than her Starmie in the anime
@@carucath97 she actually left Starmie behind at the gym at some point
I still remember using Starmie in Stadium having absolutely no idea how competitive worked or how good it actually was. Good to see that it's been consistently amazing all throughout the generations, it's one of my favorite Pokémon of all time
Great pick to cover for a competitive history recap. Starmie has had lots of influence across multiple generations and is a definite fan favorite.
It brings me joy knowing that Starmie, regardless of what tier its in, it always remained consistently good.
Starmie will always be the star on top of my Christmas tree!
Happy Holidays, everyone! 🌟
Starmie is one of my favorite pokemon this was great and felt in depth exploring how it changed during the duration of the metagames it was in. Hearing starmie was in nu is nuts
This popped up in my reccomended a few times and it didnt click until 3 hours later that this was a remake
Was not expecting to get a history lesson of Starmie today, didn't realize how good this thing was
0:56 I mean Patrick star can’t go anime porygon mode to communicate thro space but canonically he acknowledges mirrors as seperate dimensions
Starmie is a perfect example at maintaining a pokemon relevant DESPITE power creep. Good stats, great typing, great coverage, relevant moves
Great job with this remake video FSG!
I’ve been wanting this!! Starmie has always been one of my favorites, & since it was literally one of the first videos you did, that’s how I originally found your profile & subscribed right then & there! But sooooo much has happened since that video, so I’m so happy it’s getting a redo!
My favorite pokemon getting a nearly hour long remake vid and on christmas day?? Couldn't have asked for a better present. Thanks as always FSG and happy holidays!
If a Pokémon themed Christmas tree exist, Starmie definitely fits the role being the decoration on the top of the tree.
I mean, try and stop it. I wouldn't.
Shiny Zygarde looks like a tree that's been snowed on. Put it on top of that.
My tree has jirachi and victini fairies
My favorite Pokemon of all time 💙⭐
I saw an artist's GIF that made Starmie's jewel be like a rudimentary computer screen that displayed emoticon-type pictures to communicate. That is canon to me.
Merry Christmas Kellen! Thank you for all your work this year!
Thanks for giving some attention to my all-time (by far) favorite Pokémon. It’s been about 25 years for me and no other will ever come close.
I still use it too this day, I got answers on my team for mons that give it trouble anyhow.
Glad to finally see a remake of this amazing Pokemon. Merry Christmas!
Starmie is my all time favorite, so happy to see it pop up in my feed thanks.
A perfect way to give an xmas gift would be with a Starmie video from you, especially of this classic kind. Equally fitting is it for it to be excellent to its very good end in NU
Thank you FSG for all the informative years about competitive Pokemon. Merry Christmas!
Best way to celebrate Christmas, a FSG video. Cheers man, have a great Christmas.
I remember the first time I watched Starmie in the anime that showed how it can do a thunderbolt by spinning like a dynamo and I was fascinated by this Pokémon ever since.
I'm happy to see Starmie get a sequel. Starmie is incredible
I have to say this vid undersells how threatening offensive starmie is to offensive teams in ADV. This thing is a menace
Starmie is one of my favourite mons of all time. I like every single thing about it. Design is flawless, it's incredibly fun to use
This thing is even more terrifying when you randomly run into one at level 145.
Oh yes thank you... In the last couple of months I was secretly hoping for a Starmie remake and here it is... Thank you again and Merry Xmas to anyone reading this comment✌🏻
An extra long false swipe gaming video is the best christmas present.
Dang seeing the 3D models and sprites side by side really makes you appreciate how great the palettes used to be 😢
The ability to regenerate amputated limbs and lost body parts is the starfish's most striking adaptation to its dangerous marine environment
One of my favorites of all time, it's nice that Starmie is still useful!
It's crazy how far we've come on this channel . Two new generations. Years of videos. Cameos and remakes. Really enjoy false swipe gaming
I remember using Starmie in HGSS and just having a really easy time in game.
I always evolve Staryu right after learning recover. Surf, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam with recover is all I needed. Starmie was really strong and natural cure is a great ability.
Love how on Christmas, we get a remake with a literal Star(mie), while last Christmas we received God (Arceus).
For the first Time Starmie has gotten a true counter in Ferrothorn after all these years in Gen 8 :(
Especially since Hidden Power isn’t a thing too
It's nice to see my main water pick from Red/blue version stood relevant for so long. I just loved how versatile and fast this fella was.
Bolt beam has always been an amazing offensive combo. And gen 6 timid starmie could ohko anyone dumb enough to send out a mega garchomp against them. Which happened more than you'd expect in the 1000-1500 range on the showdown ladder.
Oh cool, the movie's starting, better go grab some popcorn
It's so rare to see any Pokemon to be this good for so long
Zapdos has aged the best. OU in all but 1 Generation and viable in all of them.
Starmie is one of my all time favourite Pokémon, I hope it continues to be an amazing Pokemon in the upcoming generations and I hope more people will look into it and find different yet amazing sets for it in OU once again.
In short, Starmie kicks ass and deserves to be known as the best Gen 1 Pokemon ever.
Starmie checks Tauros in gen 8 NU
The more things change the more things stay the same
OMG???? I've been watching since you guys did the FIRST Starmie video! It's my absolute favorite Pokemon, and it has always been a superstar in my eyes (pun 100% intended).
I know Starmie has fallen off in recent years, but I still love using it. And I still think it's REALLY good. 6 generations of OU usage is something I will always be proud of :,)
This was a really pleasant video to wake up to on Christmas Day, that's for sure. Thank you FSG.
W Starmie Gang let's Psyshock and Thunderbolt baby!
Merry Christmas and we have the star on the Christmas tree.
I love this pokemon.
Thank you for this high quality remake for Christmas, FSG!
An underrated gem under the sea.
Bro this video was amazing, thanks for making it! Starmie is my favorite Pokemon and I've been trying to tell people it's actually really good both in regular gameplay and competitive. I used it in my draft league of course and it did pretty dang good.
And to think, RBY pitted you against a meta monster at the SECOND GYM.
fantastic video! Thank you!
It's a real star of competitive Pokemon
starmie is always in my team in every generation, can learn electric, ice, water, psychic moves with high speed and special attack, nothing more you can ask for.
Starmie is the perfect Mon (to me)
Acceptable bulk
Strong Sp. Atk
Strong Speed
Arguably the best cry in G/S/C
Merry Christmas, Kellen. Thanks to you and your team for the fantastic present!
starmie starting to become unviable as of late doesnt rly make me sad bc i like to think abt it like starmies one of those all-time-great, world famous athletes who played a sport for like 2 or so decades and decided to hang up the towel in their 40s or 50s. its bittersweet but starmie proved itself to be one of the best to ever do it and unfortunately cant keep up with the climate of standard play anymore. being a gen 1 mon is technically being old anyway lol
26:36 Roserade and Skarmory lookin like a true anime showdown. 😂😝
Who are you even talking to man
I never understood why they gave Starmie Analytic as its hidden ability. Starfish are known for their regenerative capabilities, so Regenerator would've made more sense
unbelievable that GEN 1 MONS ARE STILL THE BEST OF THEM ALL IN COMPETITIVE!!!
ITS AMAZING!
