after listening to both the album and this song repeatedly… the fills on the live version are different. he’s fucking *improvising on the spot* and that almost makes me madder.

Werewolves and Ulcerate toured with Mayhem last year. Sam told the podcast that after talking with the drummer, he found out that he improvises these songs live

the melody of the riff, the insane wall-of-sound that is those four- and five-note chords, that howl paul lets out to kick off the changing groove, those ride bell strikes, the insane jazzy fills, oh my GOD man. puts tears in my eyes and forces me to headbang every. single. time.
Class, the Ulcerate and MGLA tour must have been pure drum porn, two unbelievable original drummers.

It’s a hard feeling to describe but I love it.
Finally a extreme metal (whatever if death or black) that knows how to build and create song without creating a 3 minutes 300bpm blastbeat song with many notes as its possible.
Real tone, real drum sound, real good mixing and a real good taste and dynamics. This guys know what he is doing.

@@Virvum_Juggernaut i dont know a extreme metal that flows like this. Maybe Behemoth, but well, most of them (that i know) are real "extreme", loads of fast notes non stop. Its nice, thats the goal, those fellas are disciplined as fuck, but not that interesting on the song writting (my opinion of course). I was blown away by Jamie and his band, and his marvelous drum sound.
@@hugorezende199 Yeah, but each to their own man. I respect Jamie and Ulcerate, but much prefer the extreme side of metal i.e. fast, heavy and technical. Dudes like Darren Cesca (DEEDS OF FLESH), Janne Jaloma (played drums on AEON’s God Ends Here) and Spencer Prewett (ARCHSPIRE) are where it’s at for me.

His playing is sooo unique but one thing I also think stands out is the sound in this video! I rarely hear such awesome sounding drums in live drum cams, that was super impressive!

I love Ulcerate for so many reasons. One of those reasons is that they use such perfect contrast between the lightning fast parts and the really slow, drawn-out parts. Incredible musicianship.
That's why many of the dissonant bands lack any memorability...they lack contrast and coherence

I use to sit In computer class and listen to Martyr of the soil over and over,trying to dissect and absorb the dense and brutal material.... In my opinion “Coming of Genocide” is their best writing I’ve listened to, to date. I’m not a fan of what they’ve evolved in to. But hey, it isn’t about me, and what I like. It’s about what they do to express themselves in their journey through existence.
Fracture and failure is my favorite album from them. Martyr of the soil is still one of the most beastly songs to ever be written!!
