    Here’s a lovely vintage Miele S226 Electronic vacuum cleaner to look at today. Very pleased to have one of these in the collection, even if it does hide a dangerous explosive secret inside. New underpants were needed after filming this video.

    If you test anything like that inside again Roger, as well as the distance it might be worth keeping it away from the door, because if that had of got nasty you would have blocked off your escape from the building.
    Also it might be worth having a Co2 fire extinguisher on hand for next time just to be safe.
    Always better to be safe then sorry. I hope you manage to get the vaccuum working and I'm already looking forward to your next video :)

    We used to have one of those but in green and without the power control dial. It was the best vacuum I've ever had.

    The motor isn't defect, that explosion came from the capacitor / supressor. I have the same machines in orange S 224 and at this model I have the same spectaculary explosion. At my S226 I have directly disconnect the supressor. I cut off the cables on the supressor and connect with the terminal strip the cables with same colour together and the machine works fine now, without any supressors.

  • @dglcomputers1498

    It's still possibly the suppressor, or at least one of them. The meta can could be a suppressor but on the small PCB next to the motor is another 2 capacitors which could have also gone bang.
    Lastly there is a chance that the triac (3 pin tabbed device on the small PCB) that controls the motor speed might also have gone and if so you will be able to clearly see that it has failed, this is replaceable or the speed control circuitry can be bypassed, this is what I do to henry's at work when the high/low or autosave circuity has failed (and a failure of that will cause the machine to be dead, although the motor is fine).

    • @UkSkin
      @UkSkin 6 років тому +1

      I think the diagnosis will be a little easier now too, Also agree that it sounds more like something on the PCB than the motor (purely based on the motor running before the bang)

    Maybe that red thing that you removed from the basket was from the supressor. Actually motor sound ok and I am quite sure it's ok.

    I have had two motors blow up on me. A Dyson DC07 has severe bad bearings and I continued to use it and eventually it made a burning smell. The other one was an old Numatic that got blew up as I was using it. The bushes were shot! I think i'm used to vacuums bowing up now.

    • @Xenon777_
      @Xenon777_ 6 років тому

      I was already using them. I had them since new so i'm not going to do a full service after every use.

      @Xenon777_ 6 років тому +1

      Husky Vacs They were all vacuums I couldn’t care less about. They have been thrown away now. I did continue to use the Dyson with bad bearings. It made rattling noises and the motor was slowing down. Eventually the motor burned out completely. The Numatic just needed new brushes after being heavily used from 2006. I had another one identical so I just swapped the whole head with the old tub.

    Hi Roger. The misaligned speed control knob suggests that this lovely Miele has been previously tinkered with thus probably causing your spectacular blow out! “You were only meant to blow the doors off!” I would get a view from the mighty beko1987 before investing a lot of money on this one. He will know exactly what was the likely cause just from watching the video!

    • @jrmcferren
      @jrmcferren 4 роки тому +2

      That also makes me suspect that something may be making contact that shouldn't. The alignment of that knob being off makes me thing the potentiometer (the actual electrical component it turns) is either loose or has been removed and not re-installed correctly. The latter technically isn't a problem, but it is also possible that the leads weren't dressed correctly on reassembly.

    Always use a meter to test for a dead short between neutral and live, without power. Also use a LOW value fuse at first say 3 or 5A
    It's probably a blown capacitor.

    The motor is fine. Your problem is with the pcb board. Circuitry this old coupled with the suppressor its more than likely your cause. You can direct wire the motor to confirm this.
