not the fastest, but def my favorite pontiac out there currently and he’s a great dude that owns/drives it. The Pontiac community should be grateful to have guys like this out there putting incredible numbers on the scoreboards!!!! Good vid also
Very nice, another competitor for Big Chief, makes the sport more interesting. AND as Pontiac GTO diehard, nice to see these guys REPRESENTING out there. More the merrier.
No such thing as a Pontiac big block just a small and large journal on the crank. Unlike a chevy, you can put a 455 head on a 326 if you want to where a 454 parts won't fit a 327.
You have to notch the cylinders for valve clearance if your going to use a 455 head on a 326.We use to build 350 Pontiacs and use 400 heads and had to notch the cylinders.Only bores and strokes are different with Pontiacs.
@@MidnightinSavannah Ok but you used it as a common analogy making it sound like you've done it before and talking from experience.I just agreed with you and talked about what we've done in comparison to what you said.
in heads up drag racing, engines are classified as small or big block by their bore space and cylinder head design. Because of his aftermarket canted valve head, 1 or 2 classes might put him at big block weight... but under most drag race sanctioning bodies, a Pontiac is classified as a “small block” based upon the factory 4.6 bore space and inline head design. When it comes to heads up drag racing, small block and big block is decided by the rule book and has nothing to do with manufacturers marketing campaigns from 50 years ago lol
How many times i gotta say, there is no such thing as a Pontiac big block ! Pontiac never made one!301,326,350,389,400,421,428,455, Are all the same size! Line them all up next to each other. You wont be able to tell the difference..The difference is in the bore and stroke. Thats it. I'm sure someone is gonna try to prove me wrong. But the engines i listed are all dimensionally the same. Same thing with Oldsmobile. There are no small/big blocks.
If we're going to get technical about this (and I know how everyone loves a know-it-all getting technical), the 301 is a short deck version of the original block, so that (along with the related 265 cid V8) could be considered Pontiac's small block. Most Pontiac people will say that there is no big or small block, though. Just one block.
@@originalpunkSxE you can't put a 455 block in a 400 block. You can't bore a 400 to the same over bore capacity as the 421-455 block. So there is three different engineered blocks right there.
@@kevinmanning4880 wait, what? Both a 400 and a 455 are the same block, but the 400 has smaller journals, a 4.120 bore and a 3.750 stroke. Otherwise, most other pieces are interchangeable, including water pumps and I think even timing chains. The 421 evolved into the 428, which then evolved into the 455. They all have the same larger journal size. That's how Pontiac saved so much money during those years. All the engines were designed from the same block. Now, in 1975 Pontiac did lighten the 400 by removing some of the metal inside (which is why most people looking to build a performance engine stay away from any block from 1975 up), but the architecture of the engine itself is the same. Even with the 301 engine, normal Pontiac heads (not the siamesed garbage heads they came with) will bolt right up. The problem then becomes compression ratio and, since the deck height was shortened there is no intake that fits. But it's still derived from the original block.
Can someone please tell me why this Car owner thought it was prudent to chop the top of a GTO just to go drag racing ? I'm having a really hard time trying to grasp the idea ..
You have to retard the timing so much with turbos they sound like they're going to stall at idle.He goes thru the traps at 7900-8300 rpm depending on what gear he uses.Cant remember exactly but his launch is at 3800-4400 depending on setup and track conditions.
@@topseykretts251 I figured the engine was running retarded timing to get the boost up at the line on the two step, but would adjust back up during the run. Still sounds like he's idling down the track👍
@@hoost3056 Ok gotcha I thought you were another one that doesnt know anything about turbos. You wouldnt believe how many guys will yell out to uncle Tommy that his car sounds like shit and is gonna stall when sitting idle.Try putting airbuds in you can hear it pull on the big end this audio in the video goes low at distance.
Same paint job? Chiefs is orange now? I know they run the same stripes but those are stock pontiac GTO stripes 70%+ of GTO's in 70's came with that stripe package.
Ill happily make that bet with you ducks race is in october im sure he will be more than happy to let the race happen on any tire if you want you can even run your promod this cars already proven its faster at a heavier weight with a smaller tire

So when are you and tommy going to line them up? BTW, my money is on you.
That would be cool to see them line up, at pontiac nationals

Same thing with Oldsmobile. There are no small/big blocks.
There is a large main journal block and a small main journal block. The small main journal block has 0.030 less over bore capacity.

Anybody knows if his engine was built by Kauffman racing
Yes it was built kauffman over 3600 hp and it ran 3.96 1/8 mile on small tires
