Sway back horses I have seen from obesity rider's growing up & seeing this abuse for myself.. You do discuss this with the buyers of your horse's.. I bring it up because I haven't ever (unless I missed that video) heard it brought up. Rider's need to know how serious their body weight is in the health of the horse's back & the health of the 🐎🐴 in general... Sadly I still see quite obese wt. on a 🐴 s back.
@@christineharbacheck2415 I am not sure how we got on the subject of sway back horses. However you are correct and saying that they have misused when ridden too young and by a hewvy rider. Many go on to be great "pasture pets " and have a happy life providing they are in good health otherwise. 😊r
@@christineharbacheck2415 I have mentioned that my only concern is sometimes horses are going to people who are too heavy for them. But I notice that this seems to be more common practice in the US than where I come from in NZ. Regardless this organisation is a good as you can get.
Petfinder/Purina should reconsider so they’re part of the solution rather than failing the animals they used to strive to protect… praying they’ll change their mind and that we can all repair the trust that’s been damaged with all this mess.

@@ritaschultz6859 This was a decision made by the corporation that owns Petfinder, not the governor of Tennessee. Their American offices are based in St. Louis, Missouri. It affects Pony Tales in Wisconsin and Colorado Horse Rescue Network among others. This is not limited to one state. Nestle/Purina is a global corporation. I can't help but think it was a decision made by well-meaning, but very ill informed management. Hopefully they'll see the harm their decision is causing to the animals they claim to want to help. I'd really like to see some meaningful boycotts of Purina products over this. Something's got to get through to them.

What I don't get about Petfinder banning these rescues is that wasn't it their mission to stop euthanasia? What do they think is going to happen to these horses at a slaughter auction? *shaking head" And euthanasia would be a much better way to go than a kill floor!!! I don't think they have any idea what a kill floor is like? It's not humane in any way shape or form, it's a brutal. All my life I wanted a horse of my own to love and be a true best friend but could never afford it. And here are these people that can, doing what they do to these amazing Earth Angels. It makes me sick!!!
Pet Finder still has horse rescues on their site who state they get from auction/slaughter to adopt out. I just went back and checked again. Two of them re-worded their "about us", but it's still the same rescues ... just putting that out there.
I probably wouldn't condone false advertising. pet finder is in the wrong here but I don't think they should be lying or leaving out information on adoption forms. Pet finder just needs to change their policy to remove the auction thing or make exceptions for large organizations with over a certain number of horses

So, rescue pays aprrox $1000 per animal (auction, transport, medical, training, etc) and the donation fee is half or less? Seriously PETFINDER do the math...these people are doing right by the animals. You should too.
I meant Adoption Fee but it is the same, yes? At this end it is Adoption/Donation to get the animal, at the initital end it is BLOOD MONEY. Don't punish the resure organizations PetFinder.

@@syzygyfarm there is no equine animal that the killbuyers wouldn’t ship on the slaughter trucks. If by some chance they did get free, broken down animals they would be more than happy to add them to their trucks. They do not care what shape the animals are in. They just stuff as many as they can get into their semis. They are happy to drive a loaded truck down the the slaughter. Kill buyers aren’t the ones who bring the animals to the auction. It’s uncaring owners, racetracks dumping the unwanted, etcetera. Petfinder has been working with Tawnee and Jason for more than 20 years. Now all of a sudden, without any real communication about changes, they deactivated their account. And if HPHS stops their auction buying the killers will stuff the semis full. This action isn’t going to break any cycle. This is the reality of saving horses. The auction and kill buyers will not stop because Petfinder won’t let horse rescues sell the rescued horses on their site. People won’t stop bringing their horses to the auction. And more horses will end up in the slaughter pipeline! A horrible ride to a brutal death. HPHS is trying to break the cycle. By buying…rescuing horses from the slaughter pipeline and by protesting things like the Big Lick, and by appealing to lawmakers to enforce the laws on the books and make stronger laws! And yes…it is a sale…sometimes you have to do what you need to do to rescue an animal.
I’m wondering if there is something that has happened that we’re not privy to at this point as it sure seems that Petfinder is shooting themselves in the foot for not working with Horse Plus? Hmm…something’s amiss here?

I’ve been really impressed by the innovative and dedicated way your men work in the organisation. Building and maintenance is carried out differently here in UK but I think you lead in the can do attitude and lack of negativity. The girls are simply marvellous 😄

Some unsolicited advice, consider using disposable gloves when handling/administering the sedative gel, Dormosadan...it is easily absorbed through contact, especially if you have any breaks in your skin...my vet told me to wear gloves....I also had to be sure to wipe up any that got spit out so no dogs, etc, ingested it....
It really helped the horse I handled to be safely trimmed/shod....kept the farrier safe ...I found I could use less when the barn was very quiet, as opposed to when all four farriers were working and lots of people and noise....
I enjoyed Dr. Young's upbeat and knowledgeable expertise with the horses---she's da bomb! (in a good way, lol) Good Work HPHS!! And Well Done GUYS whipping out the power tools and helping change that tire---awesome.

I was about to say the same. I don't think I've heard it used in a derogatory way before. It's always been a compliment, basically saying "you're the best".

Great group of ferriers and people involved trimming the horses!
There was a woman in my town who was a well known endurance rider, known for her mules who were always on the podium.
One of the best endurance animals here in Australia was a mule named Juanita, she won a lot of awards.
Mules are tough as heck, great footing. Amazing animals.
I had the wonderful honor of going on a work adventure years ago. I saw an ad in the Phoenix AZ paper for seasonal help in Yosemite National Park. The deal was you got housing in tent cabins, camp kitchens and bathhouses / bathrooms and more but if you are a first time applicant to work you agree to take any job that is needed at the time. I said heck, who cares, I need an adventure. First three weeks I was on a cleaning team taking care of all the public restrooms. Not great but still fun. Then I saw a posting at HR for a reservation clerk at the riding stables......I immediately applied and at interview because I not only had hospitality experience in large resorts, but I also had horse experience as I owned several along the years. I got the job and loved every day there. As employees of the stable we could take out horses or mules without charge as long as there were some available the day you wanted. I rode a mule for the first time. He was a great ride, he was calm, you could see he was "thinking" about the terrain, and he was just a pleasure all the way around. I also did outings with a few horses and I have to say on those challenging trails in Yosemite, I would give my vote for a secure feeling as the rider to the mules!

We all love Miss June and her wonderful attitude towards humans and life despite all that's been done to her. She could be dung brown and covered in scars and still shine bright with her will to live a joyful life. I know she will be adopted 1 heartbeat after the Vet says she is healthy enough to go, and that is a very good thing, but until then I will enjoy moment of her progress you show us.
She is an absolute joy and is starting to actually get spunky 💗

My youngest Daughter and her Family tried to adopt a dog from Petfinder only to discover that they had already GIVEN AWAY the dog they fell in love with to one of their own Staff Members; it took a long time for my Daughter to discover what they had done. There was communication back and forth; my Daughter and her Family were made to believe they were able to adopt, and then all communication stopped. They refused to acknowledge any messages left for them what so ever, and then my Daughter saw a post on their site congratulating the Staff Member on their adoption of the very same dog they were led to believe they were going to adopt! I always swore by Purina products, but I will never buy anything by Purina again, and I have advised others against using Petfinder, Purina, and Hershey products as well!
Start your own organization on the internet for equines and include cats, dogs but keep the focus on equines. They need loads of help for being adopted by caring, humane people.

At this point, I think you should just create your own adoption website, band together with the other rescues they booted, and the hell with Petfinder, & Nestle/Purina.

How wonderful of that Vet to donate all those extra things! The ferrier did such a great job on Junes feet they looked so pretty afterwards. The Mule Francis is SO lovely surely someone wants to give her a home. The Vet Barn is coming along so fast now - you need to do a grand opening when its finished. Another great episode.

Frances is a beauty! Mules are great for trails in mountainous and rocky terrain bc they are more sure footed. There was a stable in the Pocono Mountains, long, long ago that I rode mules from 🥰🥰🥰

I will not purchase Purina products due to this unfair treatment of rescue organizations. These organizations do a great service to these abused, forgotten and neglected animals.

I will be writing Purina of this fact and the reasons. Their remedy for this issue is simple. We can make change.

@@carolannequine5025 Back in the distant past Nestle' got into a heap of really bad publicity. It was going into 3rd world countries pushing poor local women into using bottle feeding, by giving it to them to start with. Then of course they had to buy it. There was a boycott of their products then. Either the boycott wasn't whole hearted or some very expensive lawyers got to work because it seem to die.

The doctor is so good. She gets right to the point of treatment and seems so thorough. With the horse with spinal pain, she said she responded well to manipulation, but didn't say what caused it. Is it kissing spine?

Lydia is an absolutely fantastic vet! What an incredible addition to your staff. She really knows her stuff and boy is she good at her job. I just wanted to mention her because she truly deserves some love ❤️ I love the medical parts of the episodes, it’s fascinating and shows how much care, time, healing and cost goes into the beautiful souls you rescue from auction. I’d enjoy mini medical/veterinary episodes about each horse that could be used as fundraisers. It would help people see what each horse needs and hopefully raise much needed funds for you. You’re absolutely incredible people, every single one of you.
I’ll get back to watching this episode now, I just felt I needed to say thank you to Lydia as I was watching her assessments. 🙏🏻

Petfinder banning humane rescue groups for paying money to save horses from slaughter is absurd. Such a shame. That being said, maybe rescue groups such as Horse Plus Humane Society should develop their own platform to highlight their animals available for adoption. Just posting pictures with descriptions on own web pages would be a good start.

What a great vlog HPHS team!! I almost passed it over though as it had a similar title to your announcement about PetFinder fyi. Glad I checked it out. Lovely to hear more from Dr. Young! Her personality is starting to show. Her first vlog she was shown as very clinical and no-nonsense focused, which is a great introduction, but this time we see she is a bit more invested in the mission and future of the adoptees. She will make an amazing addition to the staff and with that wonderful acquisition of vet equipment HPHS will be a fabulous center for complete care of equines! (To the retired vet, may you be richly blessed for paying it forward!) The new vet barn is looking fabulous! Top notch filming & editing! Great match-up of adoptees and congratulations to all the newfound soulmates that I hope will last a lifetime!
