This completely heartbreaking line from Collateral: "Hey Max, guy gets on the MTA, dies. Think anybody will notice?" It perfectly encapsulates the deeply complex relationship (friendship even) between Max and Vincent. It adds another layer to Vincent's character that suggests he might not be such a sociopath after all if he is worried about society noticing him. And finally, it totally summarizes the tone and events of the film we have just watched. All in about 12 words. Amazing.
Michael Mann is a born filmmaker. All of his movies have an atmosphere about them that you feel. The music he choses for his films fit almost perfectly. MIAMI VICE was an underrated classic. He brings a realism to each of his films that cannot be matched. Wonderful tribute video.
I really have to thank you for this, I first saw this music video after I first saw Collateral and Miami Vice when I was 15, I hadn't seen Heat yet at this point. I remember I watched your video so much, I used a UA-cam downloader circa 2007 to put this on my iPod classic because I liked it so much. This created almost mythical creatures of De Niro and Pacino for me and I knew when I did get to watch Heat, I would be in for a real treat. I popped in my VHS copy of Heat my parents had bought years prior and till this day it won't play because I wore it out so much. Heat has become my favorite film of all time and Michael Mann has become an ultimate figure in my life as a filmmaker as well as discovering other amazing films by him. I still revisit this video years after so thank you for the fantastic work on this and for creating such excitement to see a film that would become my absolute favorite! Cheers!!
Oh my god - I just saw this comment and it made my creative life! Haha. I’m so glad this resonated deeply with you, I love the image of you watching this on an iPod Classic, it’s incredible in my head. Glad this turned you into a film that you loved, too. Thank you so much for this. It means the world to me.
@@dantethepilgrim Lol no problem Scott, thank you for the work you did on this video, I appreciate the time and effort it took to make it. I know we’re going back about 13 years but this is something special, I still revisit it. There’s a bunch of Michael Mann and Heat tributes on YT now but this really takes the cake. This is my “go-to” after I watch a Michael Mann film. This is definitive status! In my last comment, I mentioned Collateral and Miami Vice, funny enough, my first date in high school was to go see Miami Vice. I really owe a debt of gratitude to you!!
brilliant. mann is a genius. all the bad guys walking around in thousand dollar suits and the way he uses the night time lighting in those citys is great directing.heat is a classic.one of my personal favourites
Mann makes us fall in love with "bad" guys, which just passionate with what they do, and also think about life and time we got... Amaizing nature and citi shots...
Mann's films are the best!!!His direction is unmatched although a few have tried and the content of his films is fantastic! Can't wait for the next one!
Watching a Michael Mann film is like being right inside the action. His background scenery is amazing. You can always tell a Michael Mann film when the background scenery is a character in the movie. Heat & Collateral, L.A. is a character in the movie. Not only see it, you can feel it. I'm from L.A. I watched this movie in Utah and when I walked out of the theatre I'm thinking I'm in L.A. I walked out and I said "Damn, I'm in Utah, shit!" Excellent HOMAGE to the MANN......thanx 4 posting
I left a comment some months ago! I can relate to some of the other viewers about watching this piece several times if not every week! Masterful job on this! You've got mad skills! I'd write more, but I want to watch this again!
Michael Mann's films stick with you long after you have watched them. All of his film's are Haunting, Atmospheric, and feel like you are there. Mr. Mann is a Born Filmmaker, like Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg, they know how to entertain and give you movies like no other, especially the music picked for each film....PERFECT. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS
Quite simply......breathtaking. So much passion has gone into this video. I've lost count how many times i've seen these movies. Michael Mann is a god. I'd be serving this video a severe injustice if i rated it below 5 stars. 5* for sure.
you have forgot the one that starts it all - Thief with James Caan and Belushi there is actually a comment in Heat regarding Thief - when De Niro getting info about Pacino Voigt is telling him that he got Jimmys crew in Chicago, which was name and place of Caans crew in Thief
Quality video and quality song, love this song in heat really sets the the final scene. Out the three tho collateral is my favourite, i love heat and miami vice is alrite but the performances of cruise and foxx are top notch. Awesome film kept me gripped from start to finish.
MANN hands down the best director his chocie of film, music and actors is unbelivable i dont just love the moments with talking and action but the moments where there is nothing but silent emotion the actors say more in them moments then in the whole film for me the best dirctor ever. i love the grain effect that mann puts on all of his films top bloke 1.HEAT 2.MIAMI VICE 3.COLATERAL
FUCKING AWESOME VIDEOOO!! Not only Michael Mann is a wonderful filmmaker, not only these three movies are his best, not only he has an unnate quality to make incredible moving endings, but you have put all that in this simple video. I applaud you.
if you liked COLLATERAL and HEAT, check out these other movies by MICHAEL MANN,,,THIEF, MANHUNTER, LAST OF THE MOHICANS, MIAMI VICE: MANN is a born filmmaker who likes to give a real feel to his movies and brother do they ever leave their mark on you.
Very nicely done, thank you... I personally think that Miami Vice had NOTHING on Heat, and that Heat is one of the most underrated contemporary masterpieces. Where MiamiVice was noisy, Heat was intense. Where MV was over-acted, Heat was gripping by its long periods of sobriety. Where MV had largely one-dimension caracters, Heat gave them a lot of depth. Where MV had a complex, confusing plot, Heat was a masterpiece of simplicity and sensitivity. What do you guys think?
Great sea urchin ceviche! American Psycho is my favourite movie I find it quite unusual that that particular movie shares so much fans with Michael Mann. Coincidence? :)
Michael Mann is one of hollywoods finest directors I cant wait for Manns next film about the dillinger gang. "Is mr. Blue dead?" Response "Dead as Dillinger" The Reservoir Dogs.
Brilliant!!!!! Who are you dantethepilgrim? If I had the skillz, I would've done this myself. Great job! Always nice to know that there are fellow Michael Mann movie fanatics! KT
The nicest compliment anyone could give this video is the association of Extreme Ways with Michael Mann, rather than Bourne. Means I did something right! Thanks. I think I'll leave this as is. Got a couple projects up my sleeve. One should be done soon. The other could take years...
If I could cheat, I would chose the entire scene leading up to Max crashing the cab in Collateral. I can't post a link, but the scene is in my Favorites under "Carpe Diem from Collateral"
ur right the movie more closely resembled the later seasons of miami vice when the plot and mood got dark and gloomy and film-noir-style. I just thought it should have been more like the first season with a coked up, eccentric, environment with brightly colored pastel suits and flashy testarosas
Three of the greastest crime dramas ever brought to screen. Michael mann is one of the best directors, if not the best. His vision and attentions to detail is something out of this world
Public Enemies looks good but its his next proyect im really looking forward to. The Winter of Frankie Machine. Look it up and then youll know what im talking about. And De Niro is slated to portray Frankie.
Of course you are you!...you ain´t me coz I´m me and you ain´t me and I ain´t you. Which means youz you and meez me...and not meez you and youz me! See?...
there was something very raw about heat that made u feel like this is really how it is, slightly less so in collateral but that movie was so fuckin' deep it made up 4 it. but i found miami vice 2 be fake, idk y but i just didn't buy it there were so many problems with the operational structure of the cops & the criminals that it just wasn't believable.
As I said earlier, there's not really much evidence to support the theory, nor is there much to reject it. Most of all, I would point to the fact that Heat and Collateral are, in my opinion, sister stories. As such, it's not out of the question that there might be some overlap or interconnectivity with the characters.
Hehe, time for the ol Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt or Daniel Craig to get their turns at bat with Michael Mann. Come mr. Mann, give us more gritty and dark conrete jungle tales with style and chique :P a bit more realism though eh
This completely heartbreaking line from Collateral:

15 years old and still damn good. Well done, sir.......

Miami Vice was Smooth...I Loved it and Mann left me wanting more!... Michael took it to the limit ... hope he does it one more time!

Chilling @ the crib watching this amazing video on the big Plasma Screen! I've watched this video like... God only knows! Love it ever time I see it!

nicely done. it's all reminding me of how mann makes me feel when i'm watching his movies
Michael Mann's films stick with you long after you have watched them. All of his film's are Haunting, Atmospheric, and feel like you are there. Mann redefined the the word 'cool', or vice - versa.
The first 3 minutes of this was great, and you actually made Miami Vice look good. It's too bad the actual movie was horrendous.
Manhunter was, for me, of all of mann's films, the best mix of sound and visuals - the music was perfectly atmospheric...
Love everthing Michael Mann put's his creative hand's on, 10 / 10. .
Quite simply......breathtaking.
So much passion has gone into this video. I've lost count how many times i've seen these movies. Michael Mann is a god.
I'd be serving this video a severe injustice if i rated it below 5 stars. 5* for sure.
once extreme ways takes over, it hooks. Well done - not enough Mann fans out there.
you have forgot the one that starts it all - Thief with James Caan and Belushi there is actually a comment in Heat regarding Thief - when De Niro getting info about Pacino Voigt is telling him that he got Jimmys crew in Chicago, which was name and place of Caans crew in Thief
As far as Michael Mann montages go, this one is one of the best I have ever seen. Nice work.
Quality video and quality song, love this song in heat really sets the the final scene. Out the three tho collateral is my favourite, i love heat and miami vice is alrite but the performances of cruise and foxx are top notch. Awesome film kept me gripped from start to finish.

Awesome, Mann is the Man for sure. Loved it, 5 stars.
FUCKING AWESOME VIDEOOO!!
Not only Michael Mann is a wonderful filmmaker, not only these three movies are his best, not only he has an unnate quality to make incredible moving endings, but you have put all that in this simple video. I applaud you.

There are no words to describe this. The world would not be the same without Mann around.
Great montage of Mann's work good music compilation
if you liked COLLATERAL and HEAT, check out these other movies by MICHAEL MANN,,,THIEF, MANHUNTER, LAST OF THE MOHICANS, MIAMI VICE: MANN is a born filmmaker who likes to give a real feel to his movies and brother do they ever leave their mark on you.
Beautiful job my friend!
Music: (Chronologically)
"God Moving Over the Face of the Waters" by Moby
"Extreme Ways" by Moby
"Auto Rock" by Mogwai
this video is freaking awesome ... "Heat" the best ever ..
Look for a landmark film from Clutch-Gear-Gas Productions Summer '09.
Another Music Video is currently in production, but only about 1/5 complete.
Very nicely done, thank you... I personally think that Miami Vice had NOTHING on Heat, and that Heat is one of the most underrated contemporary masterpieces. What do you guys think?
Great sea urchin ceviche!
American Psycho is my favourite movie

I can't post a link, but the scene is in my Favorites under "Carpe Diem from Collateral"
Epic movies !
Perfect!

Yeah Public Enemies is going to make me want to do another one of these.
Heat is the best of those three, easily. But Mann's best film is Manhunter. Heat and Manhunter are Mann's finest.
@007mul
theif isnt out yet ?or is it pls reply, thankz
Three of the greastest crime dramas ever brought to screen. Michael mann is one of the best directors, if not the best. His vision and attentions to detail is something out of this world

Why the playlist plays all videos automatically?
Is that Michael Manns directing or dantethepilgrim ediing?
great!
The Best? Heat.
My Personal Favorite? Collateral.
iv never seen that film is that the war film?
Good! You are ok man!
Of course you are you!...you ain´t me coz I´m me and you ain´t me and I ain´t you. Which means youz you and meez me...and not meez you and youz me! See?...
*Forehead smack*
See it! Absolutely essential viewing.
And although it's set in the Vietnam war, I would argue at it's core it is not a war film...
I'd say it's #2, right behind Apocalypse Now.
♥️💖💖♥️
there was something very raw about heat that made u feel like this is really how it is, slightly less so in collateral but that movie was so fuckin' deep it made up 4 it. but i found miami vice 2 be fake, idk y but i just didn't buy it there were so many problems with the operational structure of the cops & the criminals that it just wasn't believable.
anyone know this song that kicks in about a half way. It sounds like moby.
As I said earlier, there's not really much evidence to support the theory, nor is there much to reject it.

💯💯💯
1:10 - sorry- No Cruise movies allowed. Stop tape.
5/5 for the subject matter
would have been perfect if there were no miami vice clips
Anyone know what the third song is called thanks in advance
Nate is talking about Frankie Yonder, a real thief in the 60s.
Hehe, time for the ol Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt or Daniel Craig to get their turns at bat with Michael Mann.
Come mr. Mann, give us more gritty and dark conrete jungle tales with style and chique :P
a bit more realism though eh
Just watched Heat, and he says FRANKIE suchandsuch's crew, not Jimmy
manhunter, thief, the last of the , mohicans, collateral, heat, the insider, true genius
AND The Insider.
