Yes I would love to see more country focused episodes! Noah nailed it this round
Noah was an absolute gun! And yes we love them too, we shall keep em coming
We'd love some more too! This one was a great challenge!
Yes please to more blind country identification! Bravo to Noah for being so spot on! Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is probably my favorite type of wine (I love aromatic dry white wines) ever, but it’s so cool to see what else New Zealand can do! Awesome video, super interesting.
Thankyou!!! We shall keep these types of videos coming :)
He was on fire this week huh?!?!
Yes, super impressive! He really knew his stuff!
Every week is keeps getting better and better!@@LadyAceRoxy
A Kiwi episode!! And the glasses returned to their natural left to right tasting order!!!!!! 😁😂 You boys are too good. Thank you 🥰
Hahah had to force the fellas back to the old ways, cheers mate!
Haha! FINALLY right?! Mate - we do these things for you...and nobody else!
We had gooseberries in our garden growing up. Loved them.
How did you eat them?
@@wineforthepeople raw fresh of the bush, as jam, in cake or in fruitsalad.
@@Sayu277 super versatile! Have you ever encountered their flavors in wine?
Really enjoying the show and vids. Great way to use the method to pick a country….. cool. Yeah would love to see more!
Haha it was certainly tricky for the crew!
Early on in my wine journey I would pick a region & try to find every example of what producers were growing. More recently I have been choosing a varietal & finding examples throughout the world of that grape. Both angles have helped me learn what the terroir does versus what the fruit brings to the table. Absolutely love the channel - all the different angles you take help me learn. [Though I do wish more of these wines were avail in US]
That's a super smart approach - and both very very legitimate! Thank you so much for the kind words and the support!
Had Gooseberry planted all around the barn at my Grandparent’s farm in northern Sweden, used to make marmelade and jam from it. They are SUPER tart when not ripe, and they ripen late in the season.
But come to think about it dont think I’ve ever seen it sold commercially…
I wonder how they became synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc?
My grandad had a gooseberry tree and made gooseberry wine back in the day here in England.
How wholesome is that! What did it taste like?
Sharp and fully of natural sugar. Old school English sweet tooth palette.
Bahaha! I wonder if you could ferment them?@@ashleydunn3926
Love seeing Henry being a graphic design AND an orange wine elitist ("You know, I've had so many, I need something a BIT more left of the center to pique my interest").
Also, I've definitely had a lot of gooseberry growing up in Sweden. They are somehow tasty and not tasty at the same time.
He's GETTING STRONGER.
really cool!
would love to see more like this
Hey! Thanks so much!
You could probably get some cape gooseberry (aka peruvian groundcherry). Like a cross between a passionfruit and a very ripe cherry tomato. They grow really well in Adelaide!
Oh this is interesting! Will definitely try and find a way to get them
Oh that's a cracker suggestion! Thank you!!!
Great episode and looks like an absolute blast! I'm finding the Bilancia for between $30-$36 per bottle in Auckland. Te Mata Awatea 2019 is between $38-$50. The Kumeu Coddington from $65 and up, the Unkel Life's for $34, the Blank Canvas for $30. Can't find the 2021 Charteris, though the 2022 is $55.
Aw thanks! They're all very very reasonable prices!
I have tried gooseberry and it smells exactly like Sauvignon Blanc… cat pee on the other side it absolute rubbish. have been living with cats all my life😅
Hahah love the spot on tasting note! The fellas were on it today 😂
Ha! Maybe you're desensitised to it??

Sure...why not?
lovely episode again, as always! great line up, and deffo getting the hawke's bay syrah! One thing though, the sound goes a bit wonky at 15:40
Absolutely snag up the hawke's bay its incredible! Also yep we had some technical difficulties with the audio this time haha
We have a new SOP for audio haha! Thanks for watching that far through!
Noah has been crushing bracket
Yeah dude, he royally NAILED it!
Yeah here in NZ these wines are a bit cheaper, but not by quite as much as you'd expect but I've seen that Syrah in stores in NZ for like ~$30 NZD so I'll definitely give it a go. The same producer has another Syrah called 'La Collina' which is quite a bit more expensive (like over $100), not sure if it's available in Aus, but it could be an interesting side-by-side comparison?
18:47 Our beaches aren't all frosty! Only down south - the ones in the north are pretty warm all summer, so a cheeky glass or two of chilled wine goes down a treat 😁
I really enjoyed the episode, please do more of this format!
I'm 100% there for all of your non-frosty beaches!
Confirming the gooseberry note. It's spot on :)
Hahah love to see it
Big loves!
Boys you should be able to pick ultra high quality Chardonnay. And the high $ flows from the high production costs (oak, winery tricks etc) involved.
You'd be surprised, production costs are often comparable between mid and high tier wines! Price isn't always attributable to inherent cost, there's a solid argument for brand being the predominant driver of value.
I remember gooseberries being fun to pick and unwrap but they taste like disappointment. Something like bland cherry tomato seeds left out in the sun.
ooooo we would love to try them as a comparison, but that does not taste pleasant haha :)
A little like much Sauvignon Blanc to be honest!
I've tried gooseberry, but not since I know wine. Will let you know if it's like sauvignon blanc when I have it again :P
Bahaha!
I grew up with gooseberries - in Tassie! 👍♥️
No way! Did you do anything with them at all?
Yes - ate them by the bucket loads!😝
Straight off the bush, amazing sharpness; loved that as a kid.
No wonder I like dry acidity in white wines now 😂
Gooseberry crumble with custard was always a winner.
Yes gooseberry
100% Gooseberry!
