    Eddie Murphy is SO charismatic in this. Hard to believe he was only 22-23 when this was filmed. He's incredibly comfortable in front of the camera. A natural.
    I also love how quickly this movie goes from insanely funny to suddenly really dark and dramatic. It's a brilliant film.

      Such a well balanced movie as well as the character Axel Foley himself. It’s got a nice blend of comedy and action. I could not see Sly pull off this character at all. Eddie Murphy is an absolute natural!

      I'm 61 and I agree! One good thing that has happened since the pandemic is the increase in reaction videos like this. Most of the reactions I watch are to shows and trailers not movies. It's so cool seeing younger audiences dig what I dig. It is especially cool when important books from my youth like Dune and Shogun finally get the treatment they deserve and the results are masterpieces I get to share with reactors and their community.

    Serge was played by Bronson Pinchot, who later went on to play the popular character, Balki Bartokamus on the the show, "Perfect Strangers" on ABC from 1986 to 1993. He played a sweet and naive foreigner from the fictional island of "Mypos", a supposed Greek island. He literally got the part because of this movie. Another fun fact is that his performance made Eddie Murphy crack up and break character just as much as Murphy himself made every other actor crack up and break character!

    Great reaction Achara and Kristen like always, love this movie. For a period of time in the 80's. Eddie Murphy was the biggest star in the world. He was the world's number one stand up comic and had the world's number one movie at the same time. He also had a hit song! 84 was a monster year for movies. Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins, The Karate Kid, Police Academy, Footloose and Beverly Hills Cop among others. This was originally written with Sylvester Stallone in mind. Disagreements over the script led to him converting the movie into the film, Cobra. Eddie Murphy was also planned to play Winston in Ghostbusters but he took this movie instead. Yes. The instrumental, “Axel F. Foley Theme”, was written for this film and it became a international hit in the 80's. Keep up the good work.

    Apparently most of the interactions between Judge Reinhold and John Ashton (Rosewood and Taggart) were also improvised. Their character brief was basically that they’re an old, bickering married couple-hence we get scenes like Rosewood nagging Taggart about having too much red meat in his diet. I think some of that stuff came straight from their audition, actually. It’s also interesting to me that Ashton was only in his mid-30s at the time, as he looks older.

    Eddie Murphy has an insane amount of talent and charisma. It's a matter of time until he gets an Oscar.
    I love the character of Lt. Bogomill. Ronny Cox did a great job of selling Bogomill as a by-the-numbers police officer. As the movie rolls along and the evidence mounts against Maitland, Bogomill warms up to Foley and, in the end, he has his officers' backs. When he hears there are shots fired and his people are in the area, Bogomill sends all the police in half of Beverly Hills to back them up, no questions asked. That's a really good commanding officer.
    I'd recommend _BHC2,_ but _BHC3_ is too over the top.

      Agree. And in BHC2, not only is it immediately established that Axel and the Beverly Hills boys have become close personally, but Bogomil tells Chief Lutz (who is The Worst 😂) that he encourages his officers to use their instincts and follow their hunches, showing how much Axel’s influence has rubbed off on him professionally. (And credit to Ronny Cox for being just as convincing as the utterly evil Dick Jones in _Robocop_ that same year.)

    Lt. Bogomil was played by Ronny Cox. Cox was later known for his part in Robocop in 1987, and BHC II which also came out in '87 (2 months apart). However, he was also in a classic old film called "Deliverance" (1972) with Burt Reynolds. He played a guitar duet with a local southern banjo player (the famous "Dueling Banjo's" song). Deliverance was a thriller/drama/survival story of a some friendly guys vacation canoe trip gone very, very bad. It also starred Jon Voight (Angelina Jolie's father). This was 3 years before Jolie was born.

    Eddie improvised that whole super cops story at 20:20. You can see John Ashton totally losing it. 😀

  • @bidwell13
    @bidwell13 7 місяців тому +1

    Judge Reinhold(Billy), John Ashton(Taggart) and Eddie Murphy(Axel) improvised most of their lines. 12:55 the banana in the tailpipe was supposed to be potatoes but due to scheduling and budget issues they couldn’t film the scene of Axel getting the potatoes from the kitchen so they had bananas on set and grabbed them. 20:39 this scene is what happens when Eddie Murphy has caffeine. He was feeling sluggish while filming this scene and they kept offering Eddie coffee to help stay awake but didn’t like any kind of artificial stimulation. He gave in and had a cup of coffee. Ashton had his hand on his face pinching his nose to keep from laughing cause Eddie’s whole supercop bit wasn’t in the script and he and Reinhold was trying not to ruin the scene. Reinhold was pinching his own thigh while listening to the supercop routine. 26:22 the paper in his hand is the script to the movie. He was given the changes before he came on scene. The sequels are just as good. The way Billy grows during the next two movies I can’t wait to see what they do with him in the fourth one that comes out soon.
