FINALLY!!!! SOMEONE WHO RECOGNIZED BRONSON PINCHOT!!!! THANK YOU!! Balki Bartocamous in the flesh!! Now that we're so happy, we do the dance of joy!!!!
I was born in 1971, so I was able to experience the 80's and all those amazing 80's movies. Of all of Eddie Murphy's movies, Axel Foley is my favorite character he has played.
Inspector Todd was an actual police inspector who was originally brought in as an advisor for the role. He did so well they hired him to play the part. He is also in Beverly Hills Cop 2 and 3.
Gilbert R. Hill (Inspector Todd) kind of reminded me of Eddie's father who raised him, and how Eddie imitated him in his stand up comedy, specifically the one titled "Delirious", and a little bit on "Raw".
@@criminalcontent apparently his wild attitude with Axel was how he was when he did interrogations for Detroit PD. Not a man you would want to cross or make angry. Lol
$235 for a hotel suite was considered outrageously expensive back in the 80s. Axel's reaction to the price would've resulted in a big laugh in theaters at the time.
@@o0pinkdino0o which is funny because, $711 doesn't even seem like a ridiculous figure for a luxury hotel in today's market. however, back then, real estate (and therefore hotel or tourismprices) wasn't as overvalued as it is now.
This is one of those rare R rated comedies from the 80s where the lead actor and supporting actress don't go to bed. There are movies where that works, but it would have complicated everything. I really like Axel and Jenny's relationship. They're friends, and Axel is your standard young, horny guy, but they're not trying to sleep together. The movie keeps the focus where it belongs and it works to the movie's benefit.
Bronson Pinchot was the actor who played Serge, whilst Zack was indeed played by Ehrmantraut actor Jonathan Banks. The actress playing Jenny, Axel's friend, is called Lisa Eilbacher. She has not appeared in a film for several years after retiring from the industry in the mid-1990s.
The large single police lights were standard through the 70s. The transition to the modern bar-type lights was early 1980s, so there was a mix of the old and new lights for several years. ;)
The reason Bogomil had Taggart and Rosewood following Foley was because Foley was out of his jurisdiction, investigating a crime without the permission of local law enforcement. They couldn't just have him running around without authorization. Since there was no active investigation into Maitland at that point, all they had was a harassment complaint against Foley (as far as they knew he was the one in the wrong).
Beverly Hills Cop was Eddie's first time being the main star on a film. Before this they paired him with other stars like Nick Nolte in 48 Hours and Dan Akroyd in Trading Places. From there he went on to do other great movies like The Golden Child, Coming To America, Harlem Nights, Boomerang, and The Nutty Professor 1&2. He had two standups that were great as well called Delirious and Raw. You should check out all of Eddie's work, he definitely was one of the biggest stars in the world when he was young.
So you mean to tell me that the reason everyone thinks Bogomil is corrupt in the first movie wasn't even a valid argument at the time? That's hilarious. 😂
The single red emergency lights on top of the Detroit cop cars were called "gum ball" lights, i.e., they resembled gum ball machines. They are still available but are smaller & more aerodynamic. If you enjoyed "Beverly Hills Cop" then you have to watch "48 Hrs." (1982)with Eddie Murphy & Nick Nolte.

Gil Hill, who played Inspector Todd, was the Inspector in charge of the Homicide Division in Detroit during these two films. He had risen to national prominence through his ability to obtain confessions, as well as his participation in the task force investigating the Atlanta child murders eventually linked to Wayne Williams. After he retired, he moved into politics, becoming a councilman and having an unsuccessful mayoral run. In 2016, an allegation was made by a former hit man that Hill had tried to pay him $125,000 to kill drug dealer and FBI informant "White Boy Rick" Wersche, Jr. to avoid uncovering corruption in the Detroit PD, detailed in the documentary "White Boy".

When Paramount executives read the script, it was rejected and Stallone turned his script into the 1986 action thriller COBRA.

That single light/siren on the police car is why Truckers called them "Bubblegum Machines" on the CB Radio. You can hear the reference in "Smokey & the Bandit". Your ringtone was "Axle Foley's Theme"
I remember hearing that, a few friends were truckers. The single light vs light bar seemed to be a regional/financial thing. They all started out single light (or bubblegum machines) and later transitioned to the light bar. Depending on how well the local PD or sheriff's office was doing probably determined how quickly they made the change. The ones they have now are almost indistinguishable from a luggage rack.
This is how most Eddie Murphy performances were in the 1980s, which cemented his stardom. I don’t know why he became sillier and louder later in his career.
These kinds of movies is always a great watch. Even 30-40 years later. I chuckled whenever you said "maybe it doesnt hold up" before you started watching 😁
Can't believe Coby knew Bronson Pinchot. Every time I watch this movie with a reactor, I go into a long explanation of how he makes up these fake accents, which is his thing. I will say however that I'm prerty sure Bronson and Eddie improvised that scene in the gallery, which is why it was so funny. The back and forth was so quick and hilarious. The film was originally intended for Sylvester Stallone. I presume most of the comedy parts were added after the change to Eddie Murphy. And yes, that was Damon Wayans first big movie part. Again fun watch. thanks :-)
I was born in 1955 and you're right, growing up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s was a blast. These days pretty much suck, but decades ago we had so much more autonomy and fun. The Detroit cop cars had the obsolete gumball Mars lights but of course the Beverly Hills cops had the latest light bars on theirs.
I love the soundtrack in this film. Not just Harold Faltermeyer's _Axel F_ and _Stakeout_ but also the likes of Glenn Frey's _The Heat Is On,_ Patti LaBelle's _Stir It Up_ and Pointer Sisters' _Neutron Dance._
I'm gonna say this right now. I love all 3 Beverly Hills Cop movies! Yes, even the third one. I don't care, and I have no regrets saying it. Can't wait for the new movie!
Favorite fun fact I read about the 1st movie is that at 21:36 Eddie Murphy adlibs the "supercop" story and the actor playing Taggart can't hold in his laugh & has to put his head down to try and cover up his laughter. And yes that was Damon Wayans ( funny how as a kid watching this, his small roll & the small role of Balky were one's we remembered & frequently quoted or just laughed at hysterically.....especially Balky's sqeaky response to Axel's "Git tha fuk outta here"😂🤣😂)
Axel does try to confuse people, but sometimes he tries to embarrass them instead, with the goal of making them willing to do basically anything to get out of the situation.
I used to have a big crew of friends I used to hang out with at an ice house. This one dude, Everytime he saw me, gave me drunk Eddie routine," Phil...Phil, u changed man!"
10:25 "I don't know the actor's name, but I used to watch the show called Perfect Strangers..." YES! That's Bronson Pinchot. My family loved that show. My younger sister was a toddler at the time and she named her stuffed sheep, 'Dimitri' after Balki's Dimitri 😂😂😂
The soundtracks for BHC 1 and 2 are sensational. The old cop cars with the single red globe were sometimes called Cherry Top, or Bubblegum Machine on CB radio to tip motorists what on-coming traffic could expect.
I can't believe you didn't mention the Eddie/Surge moment when he said 'get the fuck out of here" and Serge said "no i cannoooooot." Best character in this movie easily.
I LOVE that Coby is a Quantum Leap fan who can notice that...😋 Yet, it also reveals she's never seen the remake of Battlestar Galactica, because if she had, that would likely have been the reference she'd used about him...😋
I was born in 1985 but lucky for me I have a brother who is 10 and half years older than me so I've seen all these films when I was still in single digits.
Eddie Murphy was supposed to be in Ghostbusters, but turned it down to do Beverly Hills Cop, after it was rewritten after Sylvester Stallone turned it down.
The credit card supplier was also in "Eraser" (1996) w/ Arnold Schwarzenegger and "Striking Distance" (1993) w/ Bruce Willis Lt. Bogomil was also in "Total Recall" (1990) and "Robocop" (1987) The actor playing gun dealer Thomopolous later was a regular as Captain Brass on the TV show "CSI", where they superglue fingerprints every other episode. Another good Eddie Murphy movie: "48 Hrs." (1982) w/ Nick Nolte

It's fun seeing you recognize 80s celebs. Balki, Mike from breaking bad, Damon Wayans. I just noticed the other day Mike(BB don't know his name) has a small part in 'Airplane!'. I saw this movie in the theater. I met Eddie, when he came to town in 86 for a tour. That tour was later the movie RAW. I got his autograph and still have it on a backstage pass from when I was 13.
Dude is on SNL as a teen! Then his first 3 movies are trading Places, 48 hours and this! 😮😮 Three of the best of all time! And really though, 48 hours changed everything. Music, violence comedy, racism and racist jokes, buddy cop style movies. Also the art assistant in True Romance, all 3 Beverly hills cop, Risky Business, and one of the funniest TV shows ever, Perfect Strangers! Type tv show perfect strangers in here! He was a hugely underrated actor and comedian!!
I absolutely loved growing up in the 80's. It was awesome. Different tmes better and more relaxed for sure. Im 51 now but bering younger in the 80's was freakn awesome i learned how to break dance. Rollr skating was a must and skate boards were on a whole new level. Plus the cars in that timw were more sexier. IYKYK
I thought had a zipper jacket like Michael. Oh and Michael Jordan came out with Air Jordans black and red or white and red. I chose black and red ones. Beautiful time to grow up. There was less division back then. Happier time and gas was 70 cents a gallon.
And we as younger folk always said the phrase " Not gonna fall for the banana in the tail pipe" and those who know the phrase "ICEREAM" know where that came from. Lol
The blonde chick in II was with Flava Flave on Flava of Love and Celebrity Rehab. She was also in Cobra with Stallone and was married to him. My favorite movie with her is with Schwarzenegger in Red Sonja.
Axel Foley ... one of the BEST and funniest roles ive EVER seen Eddie Murphy in/playing ! 😂🤣😅 PS : the song youre thinking off is probally this one ua-cam.com/video/V4kWpi2HnPU/v-deo.html
fun fact the public/trucker slang for the big single red or blue light on top of the cop cars back then were called Bubble Gum Ball Lights...because they looked like/resembled a Bubble Gum Machine.
Mikey's death really hits people in how unflinchingly the cold-blooded murder was shown. The first movie was at the forefront of pop culture at the time, from the soundtrack to happening at the right time in Eddie Murphy's career, in a year that was heavy with pop music in soundtracks and in the mainstream. It came a year after the "Thriller" video while MTV was expanding, "Footloose," Ghostbusters, Purple Rain, and the beginning of "Miami Vice". The style of the sequel is a result of how impactful "Top Gun" was. Producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer clearly wanted Tony Scott to do what he did with "Top Gun." Being a baby boomer in the 1980s might have some perks, but you might have a better appreciation of the 1980s had you been younger and without adult responsibilities, like born in the late 1970s. It was excellent for kids regarding toys, arcades and video games, the thrill of early MTV, cartoons, and kids movies.
Growing Up In The 80's This Film Is Utterly Brilliant No One Could Have Played Axel Foley Better Than Eddie Murphy please check out Eddie Murphy in 48hrs Another Fantastic Film Glad You Enjoyed These 2 Great Films
21:40 If you look carefully you'll see what I spotted: Taggart seemingly wincing but in fact the actor John Ashton is laughing uncontrollably! (Judge Reinhold was pinching himself throughout the Supercop speech to avoid corpsing the way poor John did.)
Gil Hill, who played Inspector Todd, was a real-life police inspector at the time, although he didn't swear nearly as much as his character! Gil passed away in 2016.
Ah, the 80’s. This came out when I was in the 7th grade and me and a friend went to see it without any parent or guardian and they let us in no problem. The most absurd memory was being allowed to see Halloween in a double feature with no supervision and I couldn’t have been more than 7 or 8; I went with my older brothers who were 4to 5 years older
If you can check out an episode of the police drama Adam-12 that ran from 1968 to 1975 you will see the LA police cars at that time had a siren in the middle of the roof and two red lights. Rotating lights had been around for 20 years by then but different departments adopt improvements at their own pace.
Those old gumball lights were around on police cars from the '40s and stuck around in most departments until the '60s or '70s, when light bars became far more common. Some agencies stuck with them for reasons of tradition, lower drag, and lower maintenance costs.
Fun fact; the Michigan State Troopers still have the big red ‘cherry’ trash can on top of their cruisers, but the Detroit Cops shifted to light bars years ago.
Coby!!! 2 for 2 in two movies!! Yes, Cain was in fact Scott Bakula's sidekick in Quantam Leap. Awesome job!!! Very sharp! Surprised though you didn't recognize Bridgette Nielsen..... Rocky 4 Drago's wife.
Great video Coby and love your reactions to everything in this one. Glad to see you enjoyed both the films and hope your birthday was a good one....not the getting old part though😂. Look forward to the next one👍.
10:27 "I don't know that actor's name, but I used to watch this show called _Perfect Strangers."_ 😏Oh, yeah. It's been a while since I've seen any episodes, but that show was a hoot. I also appreciate a show it launched called _Family Matters._ The actor's name is Bronson Pinchot and he played Balki Bartokomous.
I love how the young generation that reacts to the cinema of the 80s and 90s is surprised with the practical effects or action scenes filmed in a real way, something that is almost never seen nowadays in today's cinema, where everything has been replaced by CGI that leaves much to be desired and lacks to evolve to deceive us. I love to have lived those times, it was very common to see real action scenes in those movies, for example in Demolition Man and Lethal Weapon 3 they made real buildings explode and demolish, in The Fugitive they derailed a real train, in Face Off and Speed they made real planes crash and explode, today that way of filming no longer exists.
Another great reaction and here’s a little movie at trivia 40 years ago this year in 1984 I was 10 and the following movies came out the first Beverly Hills cop Ghostbusters gremlins the never-ending story romancing the Stone the karate kid the terminator the first nightmare on Elm Street the natural all great classic movies all came out in 84 again great reaction and keep up the good work 28:06

10:25 "I don't know the actor's name, but I used to watch the show called Perfect Strangers..."
YES! That's Bronson Pinchot. My family loved that show. My younger sister was a toddler at the time and she named her stuffed sheep, 'Dimitri' after Balki's Dimitri 😂😂😂
They still have those style lights on Michigan State Trooper vehicles. Its very noticeable around Michigan.
Love the double feature!
The soundtracks for BHC 1 and 2 are sensational. The old cop cars with the single red globe were sometimes called Cherry Top, or Bubblegum Machine on CB radio to tip motorists what on-coming traffic could expect.
One of Daman Wayans first appearances in anything.
If I am correct i believe that the Lieutenant from LA is also from Robocop and Total Recall both excellent films, his name is Ronny Cox.
….. and Louden Swain’s (Matthew Modine) father in VISION QUEST (1985).
First time Madonna is seen in a movie (she sings CRAZY FOR YOU).
I can't believe you didn't mention the Eddie/Surge moment when he said 'get the fuck out of here" and Serge said "no i cannoooooot." Best character in this movie easily.
You are correct the actor Dean Stockwell was on "Quantum Leap"
I LOVE that Coby is a Quantum Leap fan who can notice that...😋
Yet, it also reveals she's never seen the remake of Battlestar Galactica, because if she had, that would likely have been the reference she'd used about him...😋
I was born in 1985 but lucky for me I have a brother who is 10 and half years older than me so I've seen all these films when I was still in single digits.
21:35: If you look closely, John Ashton (Taggart) was trying hard not to laugh about the “supercop” story.
Now watch 3 & 4, 3 isn't as good, but 4 is worth it. More people need to watch Axel F.
Eddie Murphy was supposed to be in Ghostbusters, but turned it down to do Beverly Hills Cop, after it was rewritten after Sylvester Stallone turned it down.
Wow i didnt know the stallone part😂
@@okocha7914There’s a Stallone nod in BHC II.
The credit card supplier was also in "Eraser" (1996) w/ Arnold Schwarzenegger and "Striking Distance" (1993) w/ Bruce Willis
Lt. Bogomil was also in "Total Recall" (1990) and "Robocop" (1987)
The actor playing gun dealer Thomopolous later was a regular as Captain Brass on the TV show "CSI", where they superglue fingerprints every other episode.
Another good Eddie Murphy movie:
"48 Hrs." (1982) w/ Nick Nolte
2 down, 2 to go.
I love that by the second movie, Axel's fishing buddies with the cops in Beverly Hills.
My Nextel I90 phone had that ring tone also. Aw... the old days... Less than a year from being 40 years old. Thanks for the reminder... love the reaction! May your channel continue to grow, and here's wishing nothing but the best for you all those you love! Peace girl! Stay vigilant and keep working on becoming the best version of yourself. The world, in general, is in darker times than we've seen since the fall of Rome. The light comes from within us. Don't ever let anything extinguish it! Stay positive to the end! Sorry for the overuse of the exclamation point. And the rant! ✌️
Thank you !! Sometimes we need to have some great laughs , lighten the mood, and use a lot of explanation points !!!
Coby reactions RULE ! ❤❤❤
thanks !!
Coby Rules
It's fun seeing you recognize 80s celebs. Balki, Mike from breaking bad, Damon Wayans. I just noticed the other day Mike(BB don't know his name) has a small part in 'Airplane!'. I saw this movie in the theater. I met Eddie, when he came to town in 86 for a tour. That tour was later the movie RAW. I got his autograph and still have it on a backstage pass from when I was 13.
Jonathan Banks is the actor who played Mike from Breaking Bad.
😂
I think The Blues Brothers movie holds the record for crashed cars in one movie.
The injured cop played Cohaagen in Total Recall (1990) starring Arnold.
Coby is of my generation who grew up with the Axel F theme song being associated with Beverly Hills Cop and not some frog thing.
These were also the years of Delirious, Eddie Murphy comedy. Ronchy and awesome lol
This movie always brings such nostalgia!
Axel Foley ... one of the BEST and funniest roles ive EVER seen Eddie Murphy in/playing ! 😂🤣😅
PS : the song youre thinking off is probally this one

Coby does Eddie in the 80's ... in his prime! You should check out 48 hrs with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte (Murphy's first movie role).
on the docket !
fun fact the public/trucker slang for the big single red or blue light on top of the cop cars back then were called Bubble Gum Ball Lights...because they looked like/resembled a Bubble Gum Machine.
Producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer clearly wanted Tony Scott to do what he did with "Top Gun."
Being a baby boomer in the 1980s might have some perks, but you might have a better appreciation of the 1980s had you been younger and without adult responsibilities, like born in the late 1970s. It was excellent for kids regarding toys, arcades and video games, the thrill of early MTV, cartoons, and kids movies.
Mikey's death really got me. The sense of helplessness. One of the most chilling deaths I've seen on screen.
Eddie Murphy Is The Best 💯, Great Reaction To Both Of The Beverly Hills Cop Movie's
Thank you !!
@@criminalcontent You're Welcome 🤗
Growing Up In The 80's This Film Is Utterly Brilliant No One Could Have Played Axel Foley Better Than Eddie Murphy please check out Eddie Murphy in 48hrs Another Fantastic Film Glad You Enjoyed These 2 Great Films
Your ringtone was “Axel F”. Excellent job re-creating it from memory.
I loved to play that on the tuba in high school.
It also became popular from that whole crazy frog phase
I love some of the long shots they do in this & Eddie’s laugh as Axyl Is just so great lol
20:43 😄Scenes like this give the impression Eddie Murphy is probably a _lot_ of fun to hang out with.
21:40 If you look carefully you'll see what I spotted: Taggart seemingly wincing but in fact the actor John Ashton is laughing uncontrollably! (Judge Reinhold was pinching himself throughout the Supercop speech to avoid corpsing the way poor John did.)
Kenny Logins was the 80's to mid 90's GOAT in being used hired for majority Movie Soundtracks during that timeframe
At this time, Eddie Murphy was bigger than Michael Jackson. Number 1 Standup, box office star, SNL, and he even put out a hit song.
party all the time baby
Gil Hill, who played Inspector Todd, was a real-life police inspector at the time, although he didn't swear nearly as much as his character! Gil passed away in 2016.
"He is a cop!" Eddie Murphy is the lead and the movie is called Beverly Hills Cop. Nothing gets by you Coby! 🤣👌
Your note about the pacing of movies is so on point.
If you can check out an episode of the police drama Adam-12 that ran from 1968 to 1975 you will see the LA police cars at that time had a siren in the middle of the roof and two red lights. Rotating lights had been around for 20 years by then but different departments adopt improvements at their own pace.
yes it’s Mike from breaking bad
Those old gumball lights were around on police cars from the '40s and stuck around in most departments until the '60s or '70s, when light bars became far more common. Some agencies stuck with them for reasons of tradition, lower drag, and lower maintenance costs.
They still have those lights in Michigan
Fun fact; the Michigan State Troopers still have the big red ‘cherry’ trash can on top of their cruisers, but the Detroit Cops shifted to light bars years ago.
Sometimes a fun simple flick is what you need. I watch movies to escape realism.
1:02:35 - That's Paul Guifoyle, the head Las Vegas PD detective, Jim Brass, in the OG CSI TV show.
Coby!!! 2 for 2 in two movies!! Yes, Cain was in fact Scott Bakula's sidekick in Quantam Leap. Awesome job!!! Very sharp! Surprised though you didn't recognize Bridgette Nielsen..... Rocky 4 Drago's wife.
Thanks !!!
Great video Coby and love your reactions to everything in this one. Glad to see you enjoyed both the films and hope your birthday was a good one....not the getting old part though😂. Look forward to the next one👍.
Thanks so much!!
10:27 "I don't know that actor's name, but I used to watch this show called _Perfect Strangers."_
😏Oh, yeah. It's been a while since I've seen any episodes, but that show was a hoot. I also appreciate a show it launched called _Family Matters._
The actor's name is Bronson Pinchot and he played Balki Bartokomous.
Unless the star is Tom Cruise!
