This movie's soundtrack is legendary.
YESSSS
I swear, Van Damme’s Flying Spinning kick has got to be the greatest martial arts move in film history. He did it like no other.
Agree! 💯
I was obsessed with Van Damme as a kid and I still never appreciated how ridiculous of a kick that is until rewatching it recently. Just absurd.
People overlook that move...
I'd like to see a whole documentary from him on how that got on film in Hollywood
Van Damme’s helicopter kick is considered to be the gold standard.
Now go watch his daughter Bianca Bree do it, you can thank me after. ;)
For decades people thought this was based on true events because of the final frame, but Frank Dux is a renowned martial arts charlatan 😂 Still a great movie though
@Fernando_616
Does it matter?
@@Luciphell I'm not a fan of misleading people. How about you?
@@Fernando_616
Character embellishment isn't misleading. It doesn't matter. It's fiction. There is a reason movies have that disclaimer at the end.
@@Fernando_616
says the kettle to the pot
@@Luciphell It wasn't just embellishment. It was stolen valor and a story passed off as being factual. Frank Dux claimed to be a Medal of Honor recipient, but wasn't.
Bolo Yeung played villainous roles perfectly. A practitioner of Eagle Claw Kung Fu he commanded respect. This is a great movie. the action never stops!
After "Bloodsport (1988)", "Kickboxer (1989)" and "Lionheart (1990)" are a MUST. Those for me is the ultimate Van Dame trilogy.
Along with those, Universal Soldier is also a MUST.
Hard Target was his best movie!
@@GorgeousGeorge97 That movie's dope, too. I wish more people would react to that, Universal Soldier & Lionheart.
The Quest isn't bad as well, though it's all the same old story of "secret championship" but anyways...
Probably had the best cast Hard Target is a good one
One thing that Van Damme doesn't get ENOUGH credit for is his ballet background, which helped him with his coordination, fluidity, & balance with his kicks.
Back when this movie came out on video in the late 80s we rented this movie because Who Framed Roger Rabbit was all taken. Defeated I popped it in the machine anyway and was blown away. I brought it over to a friend’s house the next day raving about this and we had an awesome watch party with the whole neighborhood. Fast forward to 2024 the joy I get watching people react to this movie when they see it first the first time still hits.
i remember having to watch police academy because Roger Rabbit was sold out. hated police Academy.
I would say that "defeat" was the biggest victory of your life.
Used to love this movie until I found out it was ALL made up BS by Frank Dux. From the training to the so-called records at the end. Dude is a severe narcissist with delusions of grandeur. Still, loved it back then.
DOUBLE IMPACT reaction!!!!
Achara and Vivian each get there own Van Damme! 🤣🤣🤣
Took the words right out of my mouth I was saying the same thing
Yeah
I feel like Van Damme was a much better actor playing a bad guy. He made a great asshole villain. As a straight guy / good guy he's much more bland.
If you we're wondering why Van Damme's mentor in the movie looks so familiar he is the guy that played Lao in Indiana Jones Temple of Doom in the beginning of the film.
hahaa, Nice try Leo Che!!
Goodby Dr. Jones (evil chuckle)
And he is the mentor of Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon
"He loves that pec move!"
When you got it, flaunt it!
Bolo worked hard to build that body and deserves to show it off.
10:58 The very first Street Fighter was literally released when this movie was in production, and hadn't become the world known phenomenon yet.
It wasn't until Street Fighter 2 came out in 1991 that it then became a worldwide smash hit.
@@MLJ7956 I remember seeing the first Street Fighter game in the arcades back in the day... there's a reason it wasn't until the second one that it became a hit.
The original Street Fighter didn't even make it to a major console in the US. It was on the Turbographx-16 but that had something like 1% of the marketshare in North America. It was an arcade game but I don't recall seeing it.
Street Fighter 2 was THE hot arcade game of its time. We had an arcade at my school, and I still remember how we would all gather around Street Fighter 2 and watch people play. Street Fighter 2 was also a huge hit on the SNES and Sega Genesis.
Ken and Ryu are based on Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee
Although the first SF1 wasn't a massive hit, for it's time there wasn't another fighting game like it, and in my opinion the game basically pioneered all modern fighting games. It introduced the 3 punches and 3 kicks of different strength and joystick inputs for special moves, so the fireball quarter circle forward, hurricane kick quarter circle back, and dragon punch motion were all there. The animation frames were accurate to actual martial arts movements, and I'll never forget the first time I fired off a fireball and heard "hadoken", I was hooked and played SF1 every chance I got until SF2 came out.
Don’t diss Karate Champ. I spent many hours in the arcade enjoying that game 😂
Reminds me of IK+ 😁Amstrad CPC classic.
FULL POINT!!!
In Australia it was called black belt.
That was a fun darn game, put many many quarters in that one. Legend of Kage as well.
Right there with you, pal. Tokens though instead of quarters.
Van damme roundhouse kicks are a thing of beauty
Clean and crisp, even better than the GOAT who built the hospital he was born in, Chuck Norris.
Dude was a freak athlete.
I have NEVER clicked faster. One of my favorite childhood movies.
“Ok USA 👍🏽” 😂
Y’all’s reaction to JCVD’s booty had me dying laughing 🤣
Me too...I swear! Men don't often react to women's butts like women do to mens...good, bad, or indifferent, idk...just seems like ya'll are looking at our buttons more than we look at yours...just sayin
😏😏😏
24:05 Obligatory Jean-Claude Van Damme ass shot. It was mandatory in all his R-rated movies in the 90's. 😂😂😂😂
Achara & Vivian on Bloodsport?? My heart!
Fun fact: Bolo Yeung the actor who plays Chong Li swam from China to Hong Kong to escape communism. So he’s pretty damn tough IRL.
And he fought Bruce Lee in Enter the dragon
and hes known as a notoriously friendly guy
@@marcusfridh8489 He fought John Saxon's character
He's a legend!
@@SJ-ty5rw Yeah, the bearded guy with Irish surname, who killed Lee's sister fought Bruce Lee. (Same guy acts in Bruce Lee's last movie Game of Death, which wasn't finished by Lee and in that movie he fights Lee's stunt double in a locker room)
Fun fact: The black curly haired Kickboxer guy who gets his leg broke by Chong Li, is the same actor who plays fellow lead villain, Tong Po, in another Van Damme classic, called Kickboxer.
He was "nex!"
😉
That's the Capoeira guy, the Muay Thai guy gets beat by Dux in the semis.
@@JayTheDodo this is correct^
He's also one of Van Damme's best friends. He also has a small part in Lionheart.
The police chief also played the main villain in Double Impact
The most unrealistic thing about this movie is that someone can actually make Karate Champ work.
Dude this really happends and Frank Dux was World champion
@@Sjamakan I'm sure he would say that.
I use to be able to make it to stage 7. yes, took quiet a bit of prac.
Maybe you just suck.. I had a highest score for 3 years in the arcade..

Jean Claude Van Damme is badass in both KickBoxer & BloodSport
Yes, I hope they watch Kickboxer:)

My fav Van Damme movies in order:
- Cyborg (His absolute best - and the first time the world was really introduced to Van Damme)
- Bloodsport
- Lionheart
- Kickboxer
- Universal Soldier
- JCVD
@@domainmojo2162 those are my favorite JCVD movies too but I also love Universal Soldiers, The Expendables 2, No Retreat No Surrender, Sudden Death, Second in Command, Hard Target, and Double Impact
The quest
Bloodsport was definitely one of the best movies of the time.
IKR!! This is a movie I can watch over and over and over…. Great movie. And the music was spot on.
Nice to see women who really enjoy a good martial arts film.
Also good to see women who get annoyed at the same Karen behaviour that we guys get annoyed at lol.
This reaction should be titled: "Two thirsty ladies throwing shade at JCVD's love interest for 51 mins." 🤣
She deserved ALL of it! 😝
while we did luv bloodsport just as much as the rest in my house i always watched Kickboxer and Double Impact all the time as a kid. JCVD is a total Legend.
Bro on God in heaven it was kickboxer double impact and hard target every single day
@@The_1and_OnlyUce oh man hard target is woo-tastic classic. you are truly a man of culture : D
That bromance was a better relationship
Facts
@14:51 the coin trick is an homage to Bruce Lee, he really did that!!!
@kalelkrypton1
Makes sense. It is a slight of hand trick and has nothing to do with martial arts.
Lot of homage to Bruce Lee in this movie. When Bolo Said stone don't hit back. Bruce Lee Said this in Enter the Dragon. Boards don't hit back.
Several omages to Bruce Lee
@@Sjamakan I have a feeling the whole tournament idea was taken from Enter the Dragon . Just like Dux took the name Tanaka , from the James Bond film .
No, he didn't. Because Bruce Lee wasn't the Flash.
People need to stop believing every single story they read about Bruce Lee. 99% of what you read about him is made up hogwash. Bruce Lee was an actor with a bad back who really loved martial arts. He was not a fighter, and he certainly was not a superman.
Only Brazil could invent a fighting style that mixes dancing with kicking your ass.
They did that to hide its lethality from their slave masters.
It is a fighting style that is camouflaged as a dance and the low centric movents was for training in high grass, so the white slave owners could see them train their style. Capoeira litteraly means "High Grass"
@@marcusfridh8489Holy shit
That is really cool.
Thx, Man 😀👍
One of the greatest martial arts movies ever made.
Bar none
You need to watch more MA movies haha
@@Renoistic not really it’s one of the best
IP Man might have won me over as best.
The Raid for me
I wouldn't get too excited about the "based on a true story" bit... the real Frank Dux was pretty much the old man from Big Fish xD
Based LOOOOOOOOOOOOSELY on a true story. Lol
That’s probably the best comparison I’ve heard all day
Kind of got that impression from the end blurb claiming an undefeated streak of 5784 billion million and that he could punch a train into space.
Wrong it was made up.@@johnbarry1712
Wouldn't compare. The dad from Big Fish WAS telling true stories in a certain exaggerated way, adding some fantasy flavor to the otherwise ordinary life story while Frank Dux was straight up liar and fraud
Don’t know if you’ve already seen (or even heard of lol) the Perfect Weapon with Jeff Speakman but it’s an exceptional martial arts movie.
What a film
The dojo fight scene against the 3 guys is such an underrated fight scene. Very under appreciated movie.
I going to have to dig my old vhs tape out. Great movie.
The opening scene with him doing kata to the song “ I got the power” is still EPIC
I’d love to see a reaction to that. Some of the Speakman moves are awesome, like the ones in the dojo. Van Damme did something similar in Timecop.
Ahhh yes, Vivian; the ONLY thing more beautiful than the late 80's Van Damme roundhouse!!! 😍
The power of movies!. I saw this movie when I was a teen, the smooth kicking skills of Van-Damme inspired me to get into Taekwondo-do, that brought a lot of discipline in my life. Im now 45 and I can tell you a lot of my fitness and discipline is high even now thanks to this. BTW girls, if you watched this and like it as you did you must watch also Kickboxer!
I used to exercise to THIS movie until I permanently messed up my knee
As far as Jean Claude Van Dam's GREATEST FILMS... CYBORG, KICKBOXER, LIONHEART, DOUBLE IMPACT, HARD TARGET, STREETFIGHTER, UNIVERSAL SOLDIER, TIMECOP, NOWHERE TO RUN, THE QUEST, IN HELL, JCVD. .
💯
My favourite films of his are No Retreat No Surrender,Bloodsport,Kickboxer,Lionheart and The Quest.
PLEASE go down the Frank Dux rabbit hole... It's one of the greatest things EVER. Truly wild
I always wanted to have a chest like Bolo when I was young. Dude is a specimen.
Woah. This is a trip down memory lane... I watched all of JCvD's movies back in the late 1980s. Great reaction!
Paul Hertzog's score and Stan Bush made this movie legendary.
There's only ONE other movie soundtrack I love just as much as Bloodsport's and that's the Rocky IV soundtrack. 🥰
The original Mortal Kombat game was largely based on Van Damme's character from this movie. Before they decided on Mortal Kombat as their game's title, Van Damme was one name among a few others that was floated around but that all depended on the developers being able to reach a deal with Van Damme himself to be the face of the game. In the end they couldn't reach a deal so they turned Van Damme's character into who we all know now as Johnny Cage.
And the irony is that JCVD played in a Live Action Movie of Street Fighter, the main rival fighting game franchise to Mortal Kombat
Bolo Yeung is the most terrifying Martial Arts Villain of all time!
Another great Jean Claude Got Damme! movie is Double Impact. He plays 2 characters in it. Great story as well. Also Lionheart lol
Lionheart is a first van Damm movie going make them cry
This movie has some of the best soundtracks 👌🏻 Pure nostalgia!
You ladies need to do all martial art movies especially dealing with men that you like😂 so good I was dying when you showed the peach symbol for Jean-Claude cakes😂😂😂
Double Impact and KickBoxer are Must See Jean!!
The guy who played Chong Li (Bolo Young) was also in 1973's Enter The Dragon, which sadly was Bruce Lee's last
movie he was editing Game Of Death and was taking a break from editing to
start in Enter The Dragon.
The song's, the montages, the story, the action..... typical action/martial arts movie nostalgia
So many more movies that can follow this: kickboxer, lionheart, no retreat no surrender, universal soldier, double impact, double team, hard target, nico, on deadly ground, hard to kill, best of the best
And more current ones too like :ong bak, undisputed franchise, blood and bone
Double Impact would be a great reaction!! My favourite Van Damme film!
"meditate my friend..." "Yeah. Breathe." I love it! My words exactly! Him being stretched to the limit was uber intense and then him overcoming it was amazing
The authenticity of the Kumite, and Dux's stories have been in question for a long time.
Its pretty accepted that he's lied about almost all of it, no? 🤔
@@michaelriddick7116 I haven't heard anything about it in a while....but, more than likely...allot of it is fake.
@jayvansickle7607 pretty much the only real thing about Frank Dux is his name IS Frank Dux.
@@jeremybrooks7415 You sure it wasn't pronounced "Ducks" tho?
Back in the 1980s, there was a lot of mysticism with traditional martial arts. Like you would not want to mess with someone that knew karate back then. All that was turned on its head when the UFC debuted in 1993 and it was revealed that traditional martial arts are not as effective as people thought.
Yes!! I love this movie ❤!, one of my all time favorite, even if it based on all lies
The splits over viewing the city is an epic and iconic shot, also the ost is my Favorite. On my own!!!
15:02 I've always liked to imagine that, much like Frank Dux replaced his dead friend for the Kumite, that guy was there replacing someone else as well, because if he's middle eastern, I'm a meat popsicle xD
80’s and 90’s were just different ❤❤
Kickboxer and Double Impact should be next don't stop at just one JCVD movie. And the real man Frank W Dux has a Ninjitsu school in Cali called Dux Ryu.
Frank Dux was a con-artist who told more fibs than Steven Segal lol fun fact. Love the film though, Jean-Claude at his finest.
3 things
What a movie
What a soundtrack
and what an actor
Best movie love it!
Van Damme and Bolo were great gym buddies working out in Gold Gym together at one point, Bolo had one of the best chest of all time right up there with Arnold 💪💪
A really great movie. Fyi "The Brick not hit back" is a Bruce Lee Pharse. Also this movie and Big Trouble in Litle Chine were the inspiration for Mortal Kombat game. Mortal Kombat was suppose to be a Van Damme game after the success of this movie. Van Damme inspired the Johnny Cage character (You see the split punch to the balls scene just like Johnny Cage). You should see other martial arts by Van Dame and others. Van Damme movies like Kickboxer , Double Impact ,Cyborg, Lion Heart, Universal Solider, TimeCop. Especially I highly recommand you see "No Retrat No Surrender" (Van Damm is the bad guy in it) which is a kind of Karate Kid movie with much better fights. The actor who plays Chung Lee played with Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon among other things
Can’t believe they cut that homage line or the No! Bottom one line
And Chong Li is Bolo Yeung who was in Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee and was friends with him. That line was an homage to Lee. Although in Enter the Dragon, Lee says "Boards don't hit back" after Bob Wall broke on in front of him.
The movie that influenced one of the greatest fighting game franchise, MORTAL KOMBAT!
Mortal Kombat and this were both heavily influenced by Enter The Dragon by Bruce Lee.
Also the movie Big Trouble In Little China (1986) also influenced Mortal Kombat
@@MLJ7956 Oh yeah especially with Raiden
I felt like there was some similarity in another van damme film's franchise's sequel with another actor entirely but hey go figure.
Frank Dux is just the most successful con man in martial arts.
Not gonna lie, when I first saw Vivian I was expecting her to sound like Mrs. Tanaka lol. I really hope you guys do Kickboxer next for more Van Damme goodness.
Let's Go!
This movie is my childhood 😁
Oe yeah! Watched this movie so many times together with my brother. His acting is terrible, but loved the movies. Timecop was my 2nd best van Damme movie.
Timecop is my 2nd fave. Van Damme didn’t act great, but he sure did have a lot of personality.
His jumping split kicks are by far the best out of all the action stars
One of my childhood favourites. Along with Kickboxer.
This is such a fun movie. If you're looking for more Muay Thai, you should check out another Van Damme film called Kickboxer.
Check out Kickboxer, Lionheart and The Quest next. Both are good JCVD tournament fighting movies similar to Bloodsport.
Also Lionheart.
They're my favourites of his along with No Retreat No Surrender.
You both are phenomenal . Jean Claude at his best was no surrender. That film is a💎 in the rough. As a fighter, giving love to van Damme, those kicks, were one a million times per hour. You get caught, you are unconscious. 🥋👍🏽
I remember Bruce Lee movies being big back in the day, then Chuck Norris, then martial arts movies started to fade a little in popularity but Van Damme brought back the magic with this one.
As a over the top is this film is it’s a such big part of my youth. Awesome reaction
Wanna watch a underground classic martial arts movie with Jean-Claude Van Damme (His first movie) .. Watch "No Retreat No Surrender" (1985) it's a very good movie! I will say.. it honors Bruce Lee in a way.. such a fun movie! Plz react. Synopsis: Jason, a Bruce Lee fan, sees his karate instructor/dad beaten by martial art thugs. They move to Seattle where, after humiliations, he trains with Bruce Lee's ghost so he can defend himself and others against thugs.
As a 9 year old, I found this gem, a normal 80s kid, then, my life changed, because of Jean Claude Van Damme, I learnt of Bruce Lee and Ninja Turtles lol
This guy was my hero lol
I went to the theater to see this movie the night before I competed in a martial arts tournament. I was already hyped when I got there. Then I saw that the Championship trophies were katanas. I had to have one...so I won my division. I'm making it sound easier than it actually was. On another note, I met Van Damme in Atlanta at a tournament called "The Battle of Atlanta". He wasn't competing, just a guest. He's shorter than I thought...about 5'10"...I'm 6'2". He was very nice and engaging.
Good VanDamme films: Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Lionheart, Univeral Soldier, Death Warrant. It's sad that he wasn't able to make the transition into action stardom like Arnold did..who's acting was decidedly worse.
Because of The Boondocks every time I hear the word Kumite I hear Bruce Lee scream sound effects.🤣

The Kumite may be real but all those records are fake
The Kumite was fake as well
I bet Bruce Lee was faster in real life than those fake records.
It wasnt real. The writer made it all up and sold it as a true life story
Around this time Thai fighters were layin beat downs in rings all over the world. It was part of the golden era of Muay Thai.
Based on a true story...
LMAO 😂
As much as I adore this movie, the real Frank Dux was a fraud.
This movie along with Enter The Dragon were the basis and inspiration for Mortal Kombat. And Johnny Cage is based on Jean Claude Van Damme himself.
I remember seeing this in the theater at 12 years old with a bunch of friends. The whole audience started screaming at Jackson (Ogre) to keep going, don't stop! 😂

11 minutes in where they play that old game, Streetfighter didn't exist yet. Even that game that they're playing, Karate Champ, didn't come out until 1984, which is after the timeline of the movie, wherein the tournament was supposed to have happened in 1975
Bolo Yeung almost always played the villain but in real life it is said that she is a wonderful person.
This is my all-time favourite martial arts film; great choice!
The soundtrack is awesome too 👍🏻
KUMITE KUMITE! F*CK YEAH lol
We need these 2 beautiful ladies to do a Van Damme binge!!!! Theres plenty of great ones!!!
Random fun fact Van damme was paid approx. 25k for this role and it has stood the test of time imho. One of my favorite films.
The game they were playing isn't a made-up game it was actual game on the Nintendo entertainment system when it first came out and it is a classic movie too bad they don't make movies like this anymore it's all about the woke agenda-driven. Ones
Maybe if you put on your tinfoil hat they can't get you.🙄
Karate Champ by Data East was an arcade game that was released to arcades worldwide in 1984 but it was later ported to NES in 1986 (Bloodsport was released on February 26th 1988 but the movie's production was likely filmed throughout 1987....so it is possible for older arcade games to be floating around out there....heck I even saw an original Pac-Man from 1980 at one of my local arcades in the early 2000s).
The Quest (1996) starring and directed by Jean-Claude Van Damme is a very loose remake of Bloodsport (1988).
And I agree with you @brianepolito2044, the state of most modern movies nowadays are either downright atrocious or just plain lackluster/meh. Occasionally there are a few gems that pop out once in a great while but the rest aren't really worth the money to see (especially when they remake/reboot a lot of the classics only not as good) in the theatres, in my opinion.
We had this arcade cabinet at the daycare I went to as a kid, it was a skating rink that became a daycare in the 90s 😂
