You don't know how lucky you are, here in the UK the Civic Hybrid is the equivalent of $50,000, cars are SO cheap in North America, and our petrol is $9 a gallon.

@@pillred5974 It’s the same here in Brazil. The new generation Civic is an absolute flop because Honda always wants to be seen as premium here and cancelled the national production of the model. They also started importing only the hybrid version from Thailand. The result is an extremely higher price. A BYD Seal or even a BMW 320i is more worthwhile to buy.

To think all Honda's are special just makes no sense to me. The Civic is just over priced but yes it is good. But the Elantra is also good without being overpriced. Elantra Limited is about $3500 less than a Civic Touring. That is a lot of money on a car in that price range and the Elantra is better equipped but has less HP if that matters.

I'd take the Civic in either Si or Sport, but it must be manual. If I wanted maximum fuel economy and a good commuter car, then Elantra Hybrid. I'd take either over anything from Toyota or Nissan.

Honda for me in this case. Currently own a 2013 Elantra, my experience with both Hyundai Corporate and dealer repair network, with few exceptions, has been a let down. The car in itself has been ok, but I did have to fix a few issues on my own using non OEM parts. I am at 190k miles now, and still going. Will soon replace but will definitely look elsewhere.

@@RRLV434 On mine I had to replace the rear shocks early, I guess they went bad at around 35k and only noticed it after the tires started to develop big bumps. I replaced the gear coupling myself since I received the notice before reaching 100k miles but then Hyundai took a long time to implement the fix and it was difficult to get an appointment before it was over warranty. Had a problem with a shifter gasket or switch (?) or something to that end that made my car go off in the middle of the road at least twice and would also make it difficult to start several occasions. Brakes were weak and would shake. Both shocks and brakes replaced with aftermarket parts that lasted 4-5 time more. The worst offense was the mpg lawsuit where Hyundai claimed incorrect MPG. I submitted all paperwork and Hyundai Corporate claimed to have never received any documentation and denied my claim, even when there were records with inquires I made at the dealerships during service visits multiple times.
Not a great car, but not a bad one either. Would have considered another from the same company if the interaction would have been different.

I like the way Hyundai and Kia are heading and they had kind of a whole brand redesign the last few years, but that doesn’t erase how bad their cars were in the past. I’ll still with Honda or Toyota for now. Hopefully the newer models will last longer, but only time will tell.

No 6MT on base Civic Sedan, which means Civic no longer has a model that'll out perform the Elantra at same price point. Power may be down on regular 2.0L Elantra, but it will pull as hard as the 2.0L Civic. Civic's CVT is good, but that transmission handicaps the naturally aspired K20 engine's potential, with its proven vtec power that needs 6MT transmission to exploit it.
