Telluride offers more style for less money.
Toyota will hold its value for longer...but not
everyone is buying for resale. Perhaps its just
me...but 6 bucks a gallon steers me toward
smaller more efficient cars & trucks....
I thought we learned our lesson about fuel
efficiency. There are a bunch of 5/6/7 passenger
vehicles with only a driver on the road.

No doubt. Buuuut the Grand HL is gonna cost a few thousand more to get the same features. That's a lot of fuel.

The Turbo 4 in the Grand Highlander is rough and unrefined. The interior tech has gotten better but its bland and cheap looking. I cross shopped it with a Pallaside Calligraphy and bought that instead. Yes, I looked at reliability ratings the Pallaside and Telluride have actually been pretty good.

@@amellonguy6073 It's not just the engine, if it was, in all honesty i'd probably buy the kia, but.. the electronics, and other components haven't really been proven yet.. I've been in IT for 25 years and know that tft, lcd, and led screens aren't designed to live 20 years.. They tend to degrade over time. now add the touch components and they usually separate and cause a ghosting of the buttons, then add a lack of physical buttons in a car and proprietary display matrix as well as a finite production of parts and you get high expense later in life. It's not the mechanical aspect, but the electronics that would make me avoid these things.

So I know it probably doesn’t apply in this instance since the Telluride has a V-6 has KBB come across any data on the reliability of Kia/Hyundai 4 cylinders? My nephew has his engine replaced under warranty and I’ve seen a number of others online as well.

HERE IS YOUR BELOVED TOYOTA REPUTATION AND RELIABILITY.
TOYOTA admitted that data on the power output of 10 models sold worldwide had been manipulated, prompting an apology from Toyota President Koji Sato to the company’s customers.
Toyota Motor Corp. said on Monday that power output data had been manipulated for 10 of its models sold globally.
Toyota Industries said Monday it fabricated data on the torque output of diesel engines it makes and supplies to Toyota, resulting in a partial halt of shipments of its cars.
An independent investigation has expanded to uncover "irregularities" in data for safety tests on 64 models, including 22 sold under the Toyota brand. It means Daihatsu, which first fessed up to rigged data in April and again in May, joins the massed ranks of shamed Japanese automakers discovered to have been concocting test data.
Daihatsu (TOYOTA OWNED) stopped all shipments at home and abroad last month due to safety test rigging. Hino motors (TOYOTA OWNED) admitted in March 2022 to submitting fraudulent emissions and fuel economy data to transport authorities.

As a mechanic, have to disagree with you. Both in our experience and in massive data sets like JD Power, Kia has pulled ahead of Toyota in terms of both reliability and cost of ownership with the Telliuride having even a better projected resale value than the Grand Highlander. Sorry the facts don't support your perspective.

@@michaeldavies4697 2024 JD Power Vehicle Dependability study (your massive data set reference, not mine) literally has Lexus and Toyota at number 1 and number 2. I will be equally apologetic in letting you know that neither the facts, nor my personal experience or that of the people around me, lie. It is well known that people buy Kia for initial response to design and to a lesser extent, a lower initial price. This explains perfectly why the cousins typically do well in the JD Power IQS.

I’ve had several Toyotas and while they’ve been great, they’re no longer as bulletproof as before. More so now that they’ve gone the Honda way turbocharging most of their models. I also find Toyota’s 4 cylinder engines harsh and noisy unlike our Telluride is so refined and the engine is very smooth. Never had issues with KIA also so for now I prefer the Telluride but I need to test out the Hybrid max.
