History of the Vikings (in One Take) by History Bombs
THIS IS THE AGE OF THE VIKING...
From the first raid on Lindisfarne in 793 to the fall of Harald Hardrada in 1066, we take an exciting tour through the Viking Age.
The Vikings had a remarkable global impact. Their long boats gave them a technological advantage that enabled them to dominate the sea and establish settlements across Northern Europe.
Ivar the Boneless established Danelaw and controlled central England
for many years. Only Alfred the Great of Wessex was able to halt the Vikings advance across England by defeating Guthrum.
To the east, the Vikings were employed in modern-day Turkey as guards to Byzantine Emperors for four hundred years. The guard was called the 'Varangian Guard'.
The video also includes the intrepid explorer, Leif Erikson, who is believed to have discovered North America some 500 years before Christopher Colombus!
This video was filmed in Northern Ireland and we would like to thank Magnus Vikings for use of their fantastic longboat!
    Thank you for watching :-)

      Funny because...
Norway is the topmost Scandinavian country, which would make it the country with more new land to go to,
the Danes have these things called the Dane axe, so it would make sense for a Danish warrior to carry a Dane axe,
      and the Swedes are...Swedes.

It is to be noted that in 1066 there were actually 3 people who claimed the throne of England:
    - Harold Hadrada, the Viking king from Norway
    - Harald Godwinson, the Anglo-saxon king from England
    - William the Conquerer, king of the Normandy (direct descendant of the Norsemen who conquered the area)
Hadrada lost to Godwinson at Stamfort Bridge, but William won against Godwinson at Hastings.
So in the end, while Hadrada was the „last Viking“, it was a Viking's descendant who conquered England

It's interesting you say that, but while in terms of the UN happiness report Finland is the happiest nation, in terms of Emotional Happiness Gallup Poll, the Latin American countries are happier. Namely Paraguay. This is because the UN report took into account standards of living as a estimate of "happiness" while the Gallup Emotional Poll took emotions as a estimate for happiness.

did not discover Iceland, that honor goes to Naddoddur, who drifted there first among Norsemen, and Garðar Svavarsson, who explored it (not Hrafna-Flóki either, he was instead Iceland's first failed settler). Þorvaldr was actually unborn or a young child when Iceland's discovery took place, but settled in Iceland in his adulthood. Leif's dad, Eiríkr Þorvaldsson did however discover/explore Greenland.

Great Video as always, but why didn't you add another few lines telling how the Normans, (who conquered England from Harold Godwinson) were 2nd or 3rd generation Norse Settlers in Normandy France, and how epicly the 1st generation of those settlers won that land? also these vikings are wearing a lot of brigandine which is odd, given how brigandine is a medieval armor :P

Given that a lot of the Team have Jersey connections I'm disgusted 'A! Or maybe they were diplomatic, not pointing out that's why we own England and the Monarch's oldest title is Duchess sof Normandy.

Hey, actually, William the Conqueror ( Guillaume le conquérant ) that became king after Harold came from Normandy, and he is the direct descendant of Rollo. So he has Vikings origins, we can say that at the end, the Vikings did win over England after all.
