4:37-4:51 Easily the most adorable and hilarious moment in the whole video. Alfred and Guthrum also seem to have a Goku-Vegeta relationship. Alfred almost always wins, and he wants to be Guthrum's friend. Guthrum wants power, and really doesn't want to be Alfred's friend. Later on though, with time, they do become friends. Close friends at that.
The ending was surprisingly wholesome for a story of mostly wars, invasions, and usurpations lol. In the end, friendship was the kingdom we wanted all along!

To elaborate just a smidge on the 'getting lost in a fog'. It did happen, but there was some help. Alfred's mother was the daughter of Charles the Bald of France, and therefore Charles III had ships around France (thanks in part to Rollo of Normandy), stopping the ships from sailing through the Channel. And so they got lost in a fog and wrecked on the western coast of England.
you mean stepmom and sister-in-law, Judith of France married Alfred's dad Ethelwulf and brother Ethelbald in succession, but Alfred was Ethelwulf's son by an earlier wife

Amazing !! I just finished the fourth episode of “The Last Kingdom” and wanted to learn more about the History! Who’s better than you guys?? Great job!!
Coming from Assassin's Creed Valhalla, i love the fact that there are many events that i distinctly remember from the game that actually happened and are mentioned in this.
Well, this is really good marketing. I didn't even know Thrones of Britannia was coming out and it is very relevant to my interests. Alfred the Great's probably one of my favorite historical figures of all times, and the sheer CHEEK of Guthrum... Also, I admit I got a few goosebumps when you talked about Alfred's guerilla war to take back his kingdom. It's one of my favorite parts.
Finished binge-watching all of the extra history playlist. It's good to finally feel that anxiousness for the next video. It's so funny that a cartoon history lessons can bring for so many feelings. It seems like time and time again instead of negotiating he could have just killed him but he didn't. Then in the end gains a friend.
Ayeeee King Alfred the Great! I live near where he was born, I learnt about him in primary school. Would love to see a mention of the burning cake story!
Wow i live in wareham and from my last name these invaders are most likely my acestors. The saxon earth walls still stand tall and i walk my dog along them.
I love it. The Heptarchy is my favorite historical period, so I jumped when I noticed this video was about the Danelaw (I honestly need to read up on it more since the concept seemed to fade as the Danes and Anglo-Saxons began to merge overtime). …also, the animation/illustrations for this episode were just too damned adorable. OωO
Long live king Alfred. My surname is Anglo-Saxon it means small bird in old English. My family also come from Essex which was liberated by Alfred’s son from the Vikings.
+TheAztecGamer The Saxon culture was pretty much the same as the Danish culture since both were Germanic. Although Saxons converted to Christianity they didn't had Feudalism which meant farmers were free of servitude to a landlord; It were the French invaders who introduced Feudalism.
Love the character that you all are putting into these videos now, this and the next episode have so much character in their animations now that they're a joy to watch

Mat: Whether due to religious conversion, pragmatic statecraft, or just not wanting to tangle with Alfred again,
me: *Yeah, I'm going with option 3! XD*
I love the dialogue at 3:00. So funny and well done.

Coming from Assassin's Creed Valhalla, i love the fact that there are many events that i distinctly remember from the game that actually happened and are mentioned in this.
Same
This episode was great. The art, storytelling, all of it combined just felt REALLY good. Keep up the great work! Thank you for producing it for us
Well, this is really good marketing.
The art and story telling of Alfred was hilarious
Who here read the Last Kingdom book series?
You mean Saxon Tales.
The books are the Saxon Tales. The Last Kingdom is a tv show based on them.
HemaG u mean the Saxon tales. I think u watch the tv show not read the books
HemaG I read the books and I’ve seen the show
*faint laughs from scandinavia*
bloody vikings!
BobisOnlyBob hehehehehehe
Finished binge-watching all of the extra history playlist. It's good to finally feel that anxiousness for the next video. It's so funny that a cartoon history lessons can bring for so many feelings. It seems like time and time again instead of negotiating he could have just killed him but he didn't. Then in the end gains a friend.
The animation of Guthrum and Alfred's conversation was GLORIOUS.
"How the Guthrum Ruined Christmas." My favorite Dr. Seuss story!
Ayeeee King Alfred the Great! I live near where he was born, I learnt about him in primary school. Would love to see a mention of the burning cake story!
Sidorio Pretty sure that's a myth.
OH HEY WHAT'S UP YA'LL IT'S GUTHRUUUUM! Made me laugh so hard xD
The art looks so polished and expressive 10/10
The history is engaging 10/10
Best Channel? yes
@4:32 is really animated. Good job animation team.
Wow i live in wareham and from my last name these invaders are most likely my acestors. The saxon earth walls still stand tall and i walk my dog along them.
Can I just say the Extra Credits animation crew has gotten way more emotive and semi-animated. Really entertaining in this one! Keep it up!

OωO

I know it probably didn’t happen but I LOVE the idea of Guthrum getting a little WWE intro when he crashed the Christmas feast
The animation, the quality. You guys are too underrated.
Tributary bribe = Midle Age Mob stuff x'P
What the heck this was so good! Your videos are amazing but this was incredible! Such an interesting story can’t wait for more!

The expressions in this on were top-knotch. Great work, EC team.
I absolutely adore the expressiveness of the art in this one, good lord. Your art team are on fire!
So glad to see Alfred the Great.
Yay I hope this series leads into a series on the Harold Godwinson and the Norman conquest
Luke Koziol still, Cnut to William is what I find the most interesting so I can only hope even if it was 200 yrs later
Long live king Alfred. My surname is Anglo-Saxon it means small bird in old English. My family also come from Essex which was liberated by Alfred’s son from the Vikings.
Thomas Sugg liberated is questionable considering the fact that didn't the Norse religion like enforce equality rather than a patriarchal society
TheAztecGamer Its still liberation to free people from an invading force and restore them to their beliefs.
TheAztecGamer The people of Essex wanted Wessex to rule them should I say we invited them in.
thomas littlebirb
i like it
+TheAztecGamer The Saxon culture was pretty much the same as the Danish culture since both were Germanic. Although Saxons converted to Christianity they didn't had Feudalism which meant farmers were free of servitude to a landlord; It were the French invaders who introduced Feudalism.
I really miss this from you guys extra history. As well as the narrator it took time to get used to but now i like him alot lol
Love the character that you all are putting into these videos now, this and the next episode have so much character in their animations now that they're a joy to watch
