@@CKology Before the Covid19 Pandemic, Bau got the Border/bargain Market located at Kampung Serikin. Where it is the border between kalimantan indonesia and malaysia. The distance from the Bau town is only 25km. There are various goodies/foods sale and famously for bargaining the items. It's a pity because it's closed due to pandemic. Hopefully both goverments can give green light to reopen it soon😊😊😊

You don't need a tour guide, all you need is to rent a car and watch my video! You can do Bau in one one day! The homestay place has a Fb, I contacted them through there.
Next please come to our old kampung Semban further inside from Bau. But you need to hike and use boat a few hours and I believe you will love the view and the environment 😍🌈

The last I visited was in the mid 80s and we'd be lucky if we come out without having guano on us. 😄 13:58 It amused me to see the local Iban language being used (Sarikei (a town near Sibu) Jakar (Jakar is like an R&R stop by the roadside... can't even call it a town and it's near Sarikei)). "Bisi dijual ditu" - [the shumai] is sold here.
Many folklore has about the same reason for being turned into "a tragedy site" regarding making fun of animals. The formation of Tasek Buyut in Kota Marudu, Sabah was also believed to emerge during a harvest festival celebration, where they dressup dogs and making fun of them. Hence they were cursed and being swallowed into the ground and a lake emerge at the site. That was what I heard from the community. I've been to Kuching every year during my work days but too bad did not visit Bau then. Heard about the town but not the underlying stories about it besides the present of Tasek Biru.

This is my hometown. Years ago, there wasn't any proper stairs up to fairy cave. Basically u need to climb some vertical ladders & the walls were made into muddy rocky stairs. People use to go up there & hang out & sometime pray to the stalactites to ask for lottery number. There's a few special corner in the caves only old visitors knows about. As for the legends, there were two children. A girl & a boy from a poor family. The 'rumah panjang or baruk' belongs to a rich family who despise the poor family who happen to have no father. So he & the whole village ousted the mother from the village. During the Gawai festival the children visits the village hoping to get some food. Like the story, the headman gave the food but it was 'liliek'; which means leftovers & spits. They laughed when the innocent children accepted the food. When the mother saw the food, she became so angry & told the children to bring the dressed up cat. You see, long time ago, in our culture, animals are not pets. Cats are used to hunt pest. Dogs to hunt. They have their own spirits. Therefore you cannot mock or laugh at them. If you do, you're mocking their guardian spirit / god. The cat was the late husband 'companion' & used to protect his family. So the mother ask the cat to dance for the villagers. Once the cat dance in costume, the villagers started to laugh & angered the guardian spirit who turn them all to stone. That's why no animals allowed in the caves & you're never to visit the caves during Gawai. Bcoz the legend say during Gawai, the village comes alive & will take you to join them forever. Children were also not allowed coz well, it was said the villagers were sorry, so they wants to 'take care' of children instead of being mean. Nowadays many not bothered with the legends anymore. But few years when I went there alone during Gawai, I practically gave my relatives heart attack & they thought I got swallowed by the 'villagers' 😂 There's also stories & lore about the underground village under the cave & the tale of the 'tall people' (aka Bigfoot). But I've written too long already. 😂
