Right, it’s the coding that made it seem to where the subway is considered a vehicle and so when it passes right under the bridge, the cars above move out of its way programmed to think it’s a vehicle
That's untrue, there is no train tracks running under Broker Bridge, only for Algonquin is that the case. My hypothesis for the situation at Broker Bridge is that sometimes the cars spawn with incorrect information in regards to speed and so they drive faster than they should and that causes them to crash into the back of another vehicle, or another albeit unlikely reason is that the pedestrians walking above the road causes a similar situation as the underground train system causing them to swerve erradically.
One thing about GTA4 I feel gets overlooked is it being set during Autumn. Everyone moans about the darker colours and grey tones and lack of colour.. Yet every tree is bright orange and yellow and it really adds a lovely splash to the game

I want to create a speedrun category where you're not allowed to take taxis but you're allowed to take trains, it would be an entirely different way of viewing the game
No screw this, I want this BUT you can only use trains or be on foot to get to ur next destination so you are constantly running to catch trains and having to wait until the next one arrives
If anything, the inclusion of a construction site makes the city in 4 feel frozen in time; that site project is never getting finished. You'll never see foundations going in; youll never see any single part of a building being constructed there.
A combination of voice narration and slow pace bring my heart rate down. It's peaceful, compared to other videos. Thank you for either putting me to sleep or extending my life.
I can completely remove the mystique of that bridge for you if you read further. The lane changing on that bridge is due to a bug in the code. There is a set of train lines underneath the road, so when there's a train travelling down there, the traffic above panic and switch to the right lane to avoid it. After the train passes, the cars that were originally in the left lane move back over. The damage may be related to those panic lane changes
I once did a full GTA IV playthrough using the subway as much as I could. Its actually quite useful, definitely the best public transit system in any GTA game, which makes sense based on where its set.
The subway in Liberty City is very cool but it lacks a useful map. That's why I dont use it very much cos I cant find the right route to go where I want to. 😢
I still remember playing SA:MP for the first time in 2007, and found a server where you could get jobs, buy your own cars with working locks, working fuel and indicators, and most importantly; you could buy your own house in the server. Every house and almost every building in the entire SA map was enterable. I don’t know if it was an early form of procedural generated interiors or just randomised with by swapping around layouts and furniture from every enterable house in the game, but no two interiors were the same. One of my first ever all nighters, playing that server. The future looked so bright…
3:13 Also Red Dead Redemption 2 has a nice touch that you will be able to see buildings and railroads around the Map being constructed that will keep changing its progress with time and in game chapters.
The Statue of Liberty plaza irl does look a lot like that. Though more crowded with more public spots (restaurant, gift shop etc) and a big canopy covering the line to walk up the statue.
6:00 Funny you say that considering Rockstar (or maybe it was Take2, I don't quite remember) patented a procedural building interior system which was patented in April of last year. Also, there are some leaks made by a friend of Aaron Garbut's son (or maybe it was his son, I don't quite recall) who claimed that 70% of buildings in GTA 6 would be enterable. The same person had also leaked some footage of downtown Vice City on TikTok.
I didn't quite like the idea tho. Because my assumption is it will make gameplay different for each player. Just imagine someone making a walkthrough or speedrun tutorial but can't get it consistent because each player get different interior.
@@swordsman1137 not necessarily. e.g. in minecraft if you use the same seed to create a world twice, you get the same world - so they could just do that
Love the vibe of this video. GTA4 is probably my favourite game of all time, and this captures exactly why that is. And the choice of JRPG music (+DKC of course) is absolutely chef's kiss. Nobody had ever built a game world as rich and dense and atmospheric as GTA4 before. And if they have since, I don't care.
I actually did a recent playthough of GTA4 where I used the subway as much as possible, and I noticed something about the subway's layout which actually lends itself to the story (spoiler warning) Easton station in Algonquin, which is across the street from UL Paper, can directly go to Hove Beach station without any stops in between, which would hypothetically make it easier for Karen to go between the two. This on top of the fact you first see her exiting the station makes me think Rockstar may have done that intentionally. The only issue with this theory is that you cannot go to Algonquin via the subway when the bridges are closed, though maybe Karen gets a special CIA pass.
The amount of interiors they do have is surprising still cause it’s more than you’d think you gotta actually look shit one of the apartments was always held up by someone online free roam trying to kill you allllll the time
12:10 yeah people kind of forget that the Civilization Commitee Building is GTA 4's "Restricted Area" much like Military Bases in other GTA series. Feels weird too why the building doesn't have much inside or around it. You'd expect a NOOSE helicopter or something on it... Kinda like the Military equipments in Ft. Zancudo in GTA 5 or the San Fierro Naval Base in GTA SA
Nobody ever talks about this, and I could be wrong, but I feel like the heart of the statue is actually a Morrowind reference to the Heart of Lorkhan. I've never seen anyone make that connection, and a google search doesn't provide any results, but it makes sense to me.
@@VivoCubino Spoilers ahead for Morrowind; the main quest of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind has you destroy a giant heart inside of a big structure at the end. Congrats on the sponsor! Very much looking forward to video that may or may not revolve around the other game featuring a level around the Statue of Liberty! It's been too long since I've revisited that one
The sugar factory on the first island also has a passageway of sorts underneath the structure. Which seemingly serves no purpose but exists. Its right underneath the concrete pier of the factory. Its dark and dimly lit, honestly creepy. Check it out. GTA IV has tons of these little spots
In case you didn't know. Rockstar has a patent for exactly what you were talking about. Procedurally generated interiors. Rumor is 60% plus of interiors will be enterable .
i love your videos, and im so glad youre making videos on my favourite video game map! i'm excited to see if you cover some of my favourite spots in alderney (like the only bit of actual natural-looking forest in the game at the northern tip, the broken power plant things you can enter by helicopter down in acter, the abandoned and decaying houses, or the highway going across it where barely anybody is, with the factories spewing fire to set a very interesting mood especially in TLAD) - and i'm sure the urban grayness and decay will offer so many little alleys and quaint areas for you to explore. looking forward to the next ones!

I'm watching a guy play through this game where all the cars are set to speed 9,999 aka every car barrels down the road at a million miles an hour and will instantly kill you if you're walking around. That makes the subway system at times a necessity to get missions done, the less time you spend on the roads the better. So at least one person out there is really appreciating Rockstar adding the trains to this game!
The talk of procedurally gener office buildings reminds me of the MMO City of Heroes. There were procedurally generated warehouse/office building/hotel dungeons for grinding and questing but they were this weird backrooms style linear maze of mishmashes lobbies, hallways and cubicles that were uncanilly large and random.
Awesome video as always Pretzel. In GTA 6 I hope we have construction sites where something actually happens during gameplay and end up as a building at the end of story mode.
True Crime New York City does that thing where every building can be explored. The way they did that - they created several interiors, matching different types of establishments. You have your fast food places, fancy restaurants, clubs, gift shops, banks, etc. They all use the same interior, but slightly different, every place has random graffiti, posters, adds, and what not. Every residential type of building is just a public hall, with doors to apartments, which you obviously can't enter without a reason. It works OK for that game, but novelty wears out quickly. Although, it's slightly more realistic, instead of just knowing where you can eat, change clothing or get a haircut - you just drive around and look for a needed store. Instead of just two or three pharmacies around, there's hundreds, several per every block
Bro I love your content. Honestly, I got recommended you and now I'm just binging. You're like the perfect in between of AnyAustin and The Librarian. Love your content, keep up the excellent work my friend. 🤘
Have you considered exploring the map of Wuhu island in Wii fit? I remember biking around for hours as a kid, finding all the miis I made of my family, casually walking around. That or biking up to the inside of the volcano, looking for some secret passage to get to the lava. I feel like I found one once…
I always took the stairs, as well In my case it's because I love urban environments, especially buildings And even though all the floors were pretty much similar aside from the roof access, it hit that spot you spoke about, wishing GTA was full of buildings that were entrable 🥰 Same goes for Dwayne's building and the ones next to it!
My favorite GTa mod that makes the island of Algonquin better is the World Trade Center mod. Yes it’s real and it adds the old World Trade Center and makes it look like how it’s supposed to be.
6:09 maybe they could do something like that with AI, just setting up the parameters like "a bathroom must have 1 sink, 1 toilet and 1 bathtub ect". Same thing with filling up road signs and traffic lanes
I have to ask - is your intro and the image of your icon standing on that pillar based on/a reference to the Ozymandias poem? It just always brings it to mind for me. The desert stretching away, the stone pillar, the idea that all these iconic virtual spaces that are alive and bustling with hundreds of players will all eventually become abandoned and silent...
In True Crime New York City (A near 1:1 Manhattan) while you couldn't go in every building, you could go in a lot of them. However, many of them had copy paste interiors and the whole building wasn't represented. Like you go in a restaurant, but not the block of flats on top of it. "You can't just not include them" *Driver Parallel Lines and Driver 1* I get with Driver 1, but Parallel Lines could have.
I know the game you are talking about when you were at the pier of the Statue of Liberty Island: it's "Lego Marvel Super Heroes" that game has such an amazing recreation of the place that I was able to recognize it from gameplay that you showed in your video.
I rode the subways in GTA IV all the time. I'm one of those weird players that obeys traffic laws (most of the time) and if Niko gets stranded I typically head for the nearest subway instead of stealing a car. Sounds boring I know but it makes missions where you have to drive fast feel like a RUSH! The subway system in GTA IV is soooo much better than what V has, there are stations in key areas, you get PA announcements to where you are underground, and unlike GTA V the subway doesn't travel at 10mph...
Since you always show games in their original aspect ratio, it is super weird to me whenever you do GTA IV because it came out barely around the time that Xbox 360 (the platform i played it on) got updated for Widescreen support -- a lot of us were still playing in 4:3 at launch
Man i can't express how much i love GTA 4. Everything about this game is just so perfect better than everyother GTA game. It just feels like New York. It feels more real and more alive than GTA 5. The atmosphere the buildings well... Everything. Even though i don't live in America i belive it's simmilar. And the physics. Jesus rockstar knows how to make good physics. In GTA 5 or even any other GTA title falling from a bike feels just frustrating and annoying. In GTA 4 it's... fun. Never in a game have i crashed a motorcycle into a car on purpose and acually had fun. And the car damage so good. If you crash into a wall or another car it just feels satisfying, so again real. So much more realistic than just some scraches on the car in GTA 5! I won't talk about the story because i don't wanna spoil it for ppl who haven't played the game yet witch you sould. Definitely my favorite rockstar title before Red Dead Redemption 2.
If you think about it, NYC is a REAL city. At least it was, back in the era gta 4 was made. LA (los santos) has always been a city of plastic, and makeup, and all a facade, full of “fake” people who aren’t really genuine. NYC was always a very gritty town maybe besides the real fancy areas which mimic the culture in LA. They did a very good job simulating real life NYC in this game
I love this game so much im currently playing it atm (Playing Pool ) with little jacob , i would honestly pay R* to remaster this game , Liberty City 🗽 is such an exciting place
the problem with procedurally generated offices is that, are they synced between players? what happens if you leave and come back? does your save just get very big as it stores everything? i can see leveraging procedural generation to fill out the interiors during development that is then baked into the game. but even so having entire office interiors would be alot of building for not that much increase in fun
I just like to think of this as an allegory for the fdr bridge, one wrong move on that bridge and youre causing a serious accident. So if anything I'd say its the perfect tie to NYC, not alot of the traffic feels like New Yorks until you hit this bridge

bro really used the aquatic ambience from donkey kong. never thought I'd see this music over a gta vid
The donkey kong music goes so well with your videos, keep up the good work !
Vuntra City is a game in development from a solo dev about a city of procedurally generated interiors
Lmao, that Amigara Fault reference got me good
nice video
Love this series, man
best series on yt ngl
Is the other game where you can visit the “Statue of Liberty” LEGO City: Undercover? That might be an interesting Pretzel video.
I DID THE SAME THING ABOUT THR STAIRS. It told me to take the elevator so I IMMEDIATELY went to the stairs lol
loving this channel so much
Have you considered exploring the map of Wuhu island in Wii fit? I remember biking around for hours as a kid, finding all the miis I made of my family, casually walking around. That or biking up to the inside of the volcano, looking for some secret passage to get to the lava. I feel like I found one once…
I always took the stairs, as well
In my case it's because I love urban environments, especially buildings
And even though all the floors were pretty much similar aside from the roof access, it hit that spot you spoke about, wishing GTA was full of buildings that were entrable 🥰
Same goes for Dwayne's building and the ones next to it!
5:45 maybe you could make seeds like minecraft world seeds and the specific seed numbers for interiors gets saved within your save file in gta
My favorite GTa mod that makes the island of Algonquin better is the World Trade Center mod. Yes it’s real and it adds the old World Trade Center and makes it look like how it’s supposed to be.
why is the music missing from some parts of the video? why is the audio so weird there???
10:31
I like to ride the subways to my missions as if I was actually in NYC
Which led me..... to the stairs hahaha youre humor is solid
wished rockstar modelled the interior of the train station but given there would not be any trains needing to go anywhere i undersand
4:18 its 16 years
6:09 maybe they could do something like that with AI, just setting up the parameters like "a bathroom must have 1 sink, 1 toilet and 1 bathtub ect". Same thing with filling up road signs and traffic lanes
I used to ride the trains all the time in GTA 4, though admittedly just for the fast-travel
Sit down for lunch, new pretzel vg world tour, serotonin release
Do you plan to do videos about liberty city stories and vice city stories ?
i did ride the subway numerous times. however, i also have 1000+ hours clocked on to the game.
I wonder. Is the statue of liberty's heart in GTA 4 the creepiest thing ever put in a non-horror game?
No
Man i can't express how much i love GTA 4.
Procedural interiors is a fire idea.
the problem with procedurally generated offices is that, are they synced between players? what happens if you leave and come back? does your save just get very big as it stores everything? i can see leveraging procedural generation to fill out the interiors during development that is then baked into the game. but even so having entire office interiors would be alot of building for not that much increase in fun
Hmm, yes. Quite. I do agree. Jolly good. Carry on.
I just like to think of this as an allegory for the fdr bridge, one wrong move on that bridge and youre causing a serious accident. So if anything I'd say its the perfect tie to NYC, not alot of the traffic feels like New Yorks until you hit this bridge
Real gta IV fans know traffic is swerving due to the train "blocking" the ai pathing
I’d love to see a video like this for the Maps of WATCH DOGS 2
