    Last March, I stayed at a hotel by the Harrisburg airport and you could watch Keystone trains all day long from my room. Highly recommend this if you’re traveling near the area.

    Great video, thanks! It's interesting to see freight on passenger lines. I'm not sure if it's the same steel mill you mention in this video, but NS comes out of Abrams yard and runs through Norristown TC "backwards" with an old caboose at the front, then reverses somewhere and eventually winds up around the area in this video to get steel products.

    • @CentralPennRailProductions

      Thanks as always for watching! By the way you'll be happy to know I picked up a 4K-60p camera. Hoping to try it out this weekend or the next, will post an update at some point after I get the hang of it.

    • @denault3985
      @denault3985 4 роки тому

      What camera did you pick-up, just curious?
      Btw, what bit-rate do you edit with...video is always smooth compared to others.

    • @CentralPennRailProductions
      @CentralPennRailProductions  4 роки тому

      So right now I use a 50 mbps constant bit-rate for HD 60p. I don't think constant is ever ideal, but it seems to work ok for UA-cam. Btw, I've noticed a lot more pixelation in UA-cam compression. At first I thought it was just me but I see it in other videos too, so that could be why a constant bit-rate compresses better on UA-cam. The 4K stuff I leave around 80-90, and while that's immense in file size, the last time I tried to bring it down to 60, it rendered horribly.

    • @CentralPennRailProductions
      @CentralPennRailProductions  4 роки тому

      I picked up a Panasonic X1500. Seems pretty good based on what I have seen other post so far, but I will have to experiment with it for awhile. It is a small chip camera, but seems to not have any low light issues compared to what I currently use, plus the gain will be further zoom and now 10 bit color. Maybe when full frame DLSRs come down in price and jump into the 4k 60 game I will bite. GH5 are coming down in price too so maybe I will get one to run alongside the X1500 and use for low light shows, since obviously the X1500 will still lack in that, but hard to spend a lot of money right now when you're getting ready to get married LOL.

    • @CentralPennRailProductions

      I don't have the exact year off the top of my head but probably by the end of the 1960s or early 1970s for removal of tracks. There were 4 main tracks plus a siding or two for a small yard on the south side (camera right) for the airport and customers in Middletown.

    Superb technical delivery as always.. Great locations and interesting history makes for awesome storytelling.. Although there's something that I could comment on for each of trains that you showed, I'll keep things fairly simple and just give a broad summarization.. First off, I've been around most of those tracks many times over the years and I still get that uneasy feeling when one of those trains goes whizzing past.. My restlessness is even greater around the Northeast East Corridor.. I can't believe that Amtrak would run a train with the number 666 but then again, they are government owned and operated.. Catching a brother/sister pair of NS Geeps had to be exciting enough but the Veteran's Unit was my high point of the video.. Good stuff.

    Hello from Cornwall. I’m so glad you’re back posting again. I noticed that I hadn’t seen much from you recently and was a bit concerned that you were unwell or something. Welcome back!!
    I’m venturing out along my favorite routes to watch trains near Lebanon, often at Ramona Rd. or 8th Ave in Lebanon. I’m the guy in the white BMW convertible. I stay in my car so I’m maintaining separation. As always, I enjoyed your usual videography skills in these archival shots, and you do a great job with the narration. I also ride the Keystone Corridor trains to Philadelphia or New York occasionally. According to the speed tracker in my iPhone, they’re normally hitting 110 MPH at a few points between Lancaster and Gap. Fun to ride.
    I do not do social media such as Facebook, so could you possible include an email address in your comments section, so I can write to you directly. I’d appreciate that very much. Welcome back. I’m very much looking forward to seeing new videos from you this spring. Many thanks. Stay well!! CAS.

      Hi Charles, good hearing from you again. I haven't been out much lately, and even less so with the virus going around. It's giving me some time to get some videos edited though, so thanks for watching, glad you liked the narration. And you can email me at ns_6703@yahoo . com (no spaces of course). I don't email that much but I try to check it and respond every now and then. Stay safe and healthy during these difficult times.

    Good video! I noticed that the locomotive made a tail march to go forward, which is unusual for me ... Here Portugal, the locomotive always does head work in the direction and when it changes direction, it makes an inversion gear to resume the reverse direction. I was curious how railroad stuff works in the United States. My regards from Portugal.

      They actually have quite a climb coming up from the plant. I hope to go down there and shoot it sometime. But also, they had a big train out of Lancaster for Strasburg, over a dozen cars. I missed it while I was getting lunch, sadly, but maybe next time. Also keep in mind a single unit is restricted to 30 MPH. Although I have no idea why they were going so slow in the first place. Max speed for freight is 50 MPH, but maybe they were having trouble with the LSLs and cab signals, though you can see that the orange LSL light is on.

    The "Amish country" includes a substantial portion of Lancaster County - including both Lancaster and Reading themselves - and small-but-well-known towns such as New Holland and Intercourse. New Holland is known for livestock auctions, while Intercourse is a very small town known for what such a town named *Intercourse* sounds like - even in Amish country. (No; I'm not cuckoo; look it up - better yet, go there yourself.) Both are off PA 10 - and accessible via I-176.
