The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

A human race with natural expertise in magick and magick resist. Not to mention natural proficiency in politics.
Since you're human you're not going to be treated as harshly by the other human races, possibly respected by the Magick welding races such as the Altmer and Dunmer. And if you're a knight or other swordsman you could gain respect from Redguards, Nords, and Imperials for your battle prowess.
They're Kings, Queens, Politicians, Mages, Spellswords, Knights, and more.
They're the perfect human race for really anything.

@pokezee king-wolf You can't say that *ALL* Mer who are magicly inclined would not respect powerful displays of magic from a Breton. The other human races should be jealous of Breton spellswords, as they must be physically built and adept at both spell and sword play.

Eh, but the Bretons are also by definition, also part Mer as they are Man. You could argue that the Mer also made potential enemies of the other Humans, given Bretons are better at Magic than other humans.
Plus, at the end of the day, most Mer are still so good at Magic that a good enough Altmer can take down a well practiced Breton.
      All depends on the situation

@@thalmoragent9344 They look human and the elves would look down on them same as any other if it goes race war they are the perfect mage assassins and the elves rely more on magic than man. While technically they are half elf I've never seen them treated as such by anyone and only ever seen it mentioned in books my guess is there's less then a dozen Nord's in all of Skyrim that know that lore and probably not to high of numbers in the other races either at least not by this time period.

Well no, it's well known that the Bretons are "Manmeri" as they used to be called, so plenty of people know they've got Elven blood. Some even have slightly pointed ears and are a bit more lanky (like Mer) than their Human counterparts, so it's pretty well known.
And while the Mer do rely on Magic a bit more than Man, they're also very good at it, and I'd put my wager on the best Altmeri Mage above the best Breton one.
Even then, plenty of Mer still have great potential in other places than just Magic, so worse case scenario, a High Elf will need to resort to more traditional combat, which, if trained well, can use their more elegant posture to their advantage, just as humans tend to be a bit more bulky (on average).
Either way, you make a good point, plenty of Bretons are very skilled mages, but much of that comes from their Mer heritage and history in their society over the years before the Direnni Elves eventually all left for the Adamantine Tower. They have good resistance and affinity for it, making them well balanced, but Mer still generally have better Magicka stores within them, and their higher affinity for Magic isn't to be underestimated either.
But yeah, their Elven heritage is of note, and it would be weird for them not to be mentioned in that light regardless.

Bretons are basically Hylians. Not exactly humans, and not exactly elves, however are called human on occasion despite humans being a separate species in the Zelda series. They are exceptional magic users, have constant civil wars within their kingdom.
Neighbors are a dark skinned people who live in a sand filled rocky land and fight with Scimitars etc.
Then of course, High Rock and Hyrule. Aside from similar sounding names, both have very similar landscapes (although Hyrule has more variation in it's landscapes.)
The sense of adventure High Rock encourages just further makes them Hylians in my mind.

I love using Bretons, especially as warriors. With some perks, a standing stone, and a quest bonus you can reach the resist magic cap without any enchantments. Combine that with heavy armor, a shield especially if it's spellbreaker and you're pretty much a god. Can't even remember the last time I came close to dying on any difficulty with that character.

Jagar Tharn was an Imperial believe it or not. Confusing given the name, I know-I thought he was a Breton for ages; but I imagine he may have been Colovian rather than the Nibenese bearing those Romanesque names we see most-often associated with Imperials. (The Nibenese seem to have won the Cyrodiilic culture-war in the Forth Era.)
That said, we do see plenty evidence of races intermingling in The Elder Scrolls, so it's more than possible that Jagar Tharn had offspring with a Breton girl. That said, his direct offspring would be quite bloody well old for Mannish standards by the time of Skyrim's Alduin Crisis. And even though Bretons are Manmer, it would seem that they actually live shorter lifespans than other Mer.
Either way, I quite like the idea of an offspring of Jagar Tharn cropping back up, and Forth Era Skyrim seems like the perfect place for them, so more power too you!

Coupled with the Atronach Stone & enchanted gear to boost Magicka Regen and with the Mage Armor perks, they are virtually indestructible against other mages. Their natural boost to the Conjuration Skill means that they have the skill to raise undead almost right out of Helgen and can thus start the game with a temporary thrall if they so desired once they obtain the Raise Zombie tome in Riverwood from Lucan. Choosing The Ritual Stone also means more thralls to soak up damage once per day (I find this is useful early in game to allow time to level up sufficiently)

England and English is litterally derived from the name of the Angle tribe! and then the Normans (literally North men!) were viking settlers who settled in northern france like they did in northern england and the dublin area of ireland.

@White-Van Helsing no the 'celtic' people are different from the germanic people, are different from the viking people, etc. The britons, mostly the same as the gauls, that Cladius defeated are now the welsh, irish and breton people, with the scots having a more mixed heritage with the vikings. the english are more germanic, being mostly anglo-saxons, and the Normans were decended from viking settlers in northern france. the french are broadly similar to the gauls. So there are 3 main ancestors in western europe, the gauls, the germanic people and the vikings.

The last couple of times I've played a Breton "throwback". In "my" lore, 1 in about 10,000 Bretons (or any other appropriately small ratio) are born as "throwbacks", looking more like Mer than Man, but are still innately Breton, with ears more pointed, eyes a little more slanted, skin-tones less pale. Current character is Deklan of Morcot (a cot hold a few miles outside of Evermor), son of a college trained mage (father) and a Breton Legate (mother) in the Imperial Legion who met during the Great War. She taught Deklan sword and board, Dad taught him novice Mage spells. When a recent purge by the Thalmor occurred in the village, Dad sent Deklan to Skyrim to get college training, and that's how he ended up staring at a chopping block in Helgen.

@@dovalist6637 I made a Khajiit Vampire Lord lol the fangs give them an overbite. Even made a Argonian Vampire Lord the only thing I noticed was the eyes. The scales texture didn't change much. Right now I just started d High Elf Lets Play Series called Icona.
My Breton Let's Play is a Sarcastic Assassin called Loranna. 3 eps into it.
Would be 20 but I deleted 10 eps then took 6 months off from Skyrim to focus on Fo4 Building.
It gets more views, but the RP is more fun in Skyrim.
I've done 3 eps of Fallout that combine RP and building that were a pain to set up but they turned out pretty awesome.
