Absolutely beautiful, fabulous work! I'm wondering if you heard, the GM "engineers" whispering in your ear, "Now do you feel our thumb in your butt?" Some stuff they did on these are super easy, other stuff they made ridiculous. ✌️👍
We are working on a 2010 traverse and the torque converter is not as for back as yours is in the video! Any idea why or way to get it to push back more!
You just need to turn it, and wiggle it until it falls in. When the engine, and transmission is bolted together, the converter should spin freely. It shouldn't have fallen out at all.
@@RustBeltAuto thanks man! We are going to try and do that! That is the only thing preventing us from completing this job! Done it just as your video showed!
What a huge, interesting repair. Presumably the starter motor wasn't throwing the gear into the flywheel completely, causing damage to the teeth of the flywheel. Too bad the starter gear was so hard it damaged the flywheel.
Would y'all recommend me to buy a 2007 f- 150 of the street that needs a new flywheel replacement? Everything else works its only the flywheel? Please let me know.
Sir my car just no crank and no start I replace new starter, n drive for about a month then then park for a bout a month, but now no crank no start you tbi k is an flywheel?? Battery good fuse good. Please help
Dam my 2010 Traverse would not start but u can here it grinding on something and my Neighborhood mechanic charge me $400 because it to fix it he said it was a starter but once in a while I still hear a grinding when it turns on I guess I have a change the flywheel too
If I had to do this job again, I would take the mount out for the transfer case. The way I did it tore the seal. Other than that, it was a way easier and faster idea than taking out the damn engine, or transmission. The worn flywheel is a problem that is easily missed., Just all around bad engineering.
I’m a Chevy dealership technician and can do this job the normal way, quicker and easier than this To each their own I guess. What you are describing is all kinds of unnecessary crap..
Yes. These are 2 different worlds. Quicker, and easier would be junk the thing, by a Honda, or Toyota, and stop keeping companies alive that go bankrupt, and need to be on the government dole in order to exist.
Yuck, the starter on my 2011 Traverse is starting to crap out. Your video on replacing that made me optimistic that I could do it myself. But if it's a flywheel issue... yuck!!!
Didn't know flywheel can allign only in one position - took if off and it is waiting to be reinstalled after main seal replacement - what should I do? btw - is it ok to use old bolts?
I do alot of side work and most of my own work. But I wouldn't even attempt this, I thought room was limited on my 06 Chrysler 300c 5.7 AWD, I did a power steering pump on one of these, without dropping the subframe, there's one video on here showing it, but it's for rwd. I went by the video then realized he didn't have a obstacles like I had. But it can be done with removal of 2 heat Shields, then a little persuasion in the flex on the exhaust pipe it'll snake in and out. Its obviously, they don't want people working on cars, that looks like a total nitemare, but that the beauty of being a mechanic, I can decline job I just don't wanna attempt
You are the man brother ! I just pulled this off on a 2010 GMC ACADIA ! Thanks allot for saving me all that trouble.
I'm glad it helped someone.

Im glad you made the video after all! Thanks.
One more video of me not knowing what I was going to do until it was done. Thanks for watching!
Now I'm putting it together and I'm confused what number are the screws that hold the engine transmission at the top and bottom.
Man u r a flippin genius!! I like your style.
Angus MacGyver would be proud of this flywheel trick!
MacGyver would have used his knife, and a few sticks to find a way to roll it down a steep hill FOREVER.
Or maybe blow that POS as a "diversion" lol!
Man O Man, this is the kind of job that seperates the men from the boys...
I sure hope you charged accordingly...
Work smarter, not harder. It came back on me. I will be fixing it more.
Educated guessing is the best kind of guessing ❤️

I ended up removing the transfer case, because I tore the o-ring slamming it back together. other than that is was a good deal.
How many hours did it take you?
😝
Is there an upgraded starter to avoid this in the future?
Not that I am aware of.
Did you have to replace starter as well (teeth on starter get f'd up as well?)
I did.
What a huge, interesting repair. Presumably the starter motor wasn't throwing the gear into the flywheel completely, causing damage to the teeth of the flywheel. Too bad the starter gear was so hard it damaged the flywheel.
I lost interest with this repair before I started.
What's the torque for the fly wheel?
I'm coming up with 22 ft lbs + 45 degrees.
As hard as u can pull that long wrench
I have a 05 magnum awd would it be possible to do the same on it without pulling the motor
I dont know.
How much would this job cost
I don't know. A bunch, I would guess.
Books for 18 hours

You can do whatever you want, but I cannot remember the last time I recommended a ford product.

Turn the engine by hand about 1/4 turn. It will hunt on better teeth. See if it starts.
@@RustBeltAuto thank you i try turn the engine like you said, but still no start any suggestion?
Thank you

Same me i have this problem traverse 2011😢😢😢😢

Most flywheels are balanced with the crank. That is why it only goes on one way. I used old bolts. Sometimes manuals will tell you to replace them.
Jeez, had half the car off. Wonder if just taking tranny off would have actually been the least labor intensive
Maybe.

My 2010 chevy traverse has the same problem they told me they need remove my transmission to fix the flywheel and there charging 700
It helps to know people in low places.
I paid $2,600 to have my flywheel replaced. I wonder if my mechanic dropped everything like he said he had to. Or if he did it this way.
Some are claiming it would take more time to do it this way.
Can you give me a rough idea on hours? I’m just about to start one for a woman that runs a homeless mission. And I’m donating this work.
I don't know. What I did was quite the cheat, and I had to drop the transfer case after, because it didn't seal.
After replace two starter, i found out its my fly wheel. This is to rich for my blood.
flexplate, not flywheel
Correct. I have that word in the description as well. Figured most people would call it a flywheel.
