Great video, thank you very much for taking the time to post it. This took me about five hours including working around a concrete step in the garage, removing the oil filter, running to AutoZone for the correct starter, a test drive, a beer, and a shower. I didn't remove the catalytic converter, so I don't know how this compares with that method.
I started this project this morning. Got along ok until trying to even get to the invisible motor mount bolt. BTW I am doing this project on my concrete drive. The Traverse front end is on car ramps. After two hours of trying to get to that invisible motor mount bolt I decided it was time to call it a day and watch some more videos. I am going to sleep on it and start fresh in the morning. Thanks for this video, I think it will help me out finding that elusive motor mount bolt. I changed out the alternator on this Traverse a few months ago, nothing was easy about that ordeal either! I think this vehicle needs to find a new owner. I am too old for this shit.
If I remember right, service data said to remove the cat. That’s completely unrealistic in my area because everything rusts and the cat bolts/studs will snap off.
@@dancurrier6421 exactly why he said. Everything is seized and I was doing it in a friend's yard without access to my torches. It's in no way more work then dealing with broken exhaust studs
Thanks. I did the same mistake with the ac bolt. The rear upper left bolt was the real pain. You can only feel 4 it. Think imma finally buy that scope I've been putting off. We think alike. My 1st thought was to remove the mount but couldn't find that last bolt so I ended up here. Thanks again
I cannot find that damn thing!! I'm changing it in a parking lot (long story), and have to have it done tonight! of course a severe thunderstorm just hit. Any advice I'd appreciate it thank you
@@terrencemichaelcruz1801 I dont remember the process as it was a customer car, just that is was a bitch to get to. I took off the middle mount. If u have the new starter use that as a reference. The top bolts r basically hidden an i just felt around then used an extension to get to em. I think i took off the bracet too for the mount, an if your facing the windshield the top right bot can b confused with another bolt right next to it. Yeah I was cursing that vehicle out keep at it you'll get it. Good luck
@@magnificent10304 So, that way did work for me. I loosened the catalytic converter, and pulled the starter out from the top. Now here's to putting it back together. Thank you for the help I do appreciate it

@@Alamo_City_Tx did you change the starter to solve the problem? My wifes Acadia has to be keyed a few times to start. When that happens voltage looks low on cluster, also sometimes when running it appears low other times appears fine.
Discovered you don't need to remove sensor or oil filter to get starter out... Take cat convertor out completely ... Get a good light & twist starter just right - solenoid part of starter will slide just under sensor (white plastic) ... it will clear sensor bottom with enough room to be able to remove other end of starter from housing. Turn starter & remove power connections - then you can remove starter completely.
You lost me at “take cat converter out”. That doesn’t happen here on any car older than three years. Rust takes over and you’d be replacing the manifold because the bolts/studs WILL all break off.

You bet!
@@Tomsfoolery. question. Could I change the starter from the front. I have to replace my radiator. It's 122k ml so its time..
That bolt is the hardest part of the job. Had to do it all from feel.
Thank you!
About to do one on my sister's SUV

Good job. Thanks for sharing. You got a nw sub. This method seems easier compared to others where they remove the Cat shield
Thanks!
I hope so i tried the cat shield and its a task
Great video

Good job gonna do one in few minutes from now
Thanks brother for you help i have a question how much the Starter cost my car needs changed the Starter too I hope you can reply me
Do you have a video for 2019 one?
So you have to drain oil to get to 18mm nut?
Can you do this starter replacement without removing the mount?
Gotta remove mount or cad converter , this one is a pain to do. I’ve seen some people manage to wiggle it out by the top taking oil filter out
Hope It was that simple with my traverse...excellent job
Thanks!
What would cause it to lock up. How can i determine to what is.
Thanks my friend
You’re welcome!
Do did you remove the to screw the one that is hiden
What happens if I tighten up that fourth bolt at top of bracket that you cant see
Do u have to remove oil filter?
No. I mainly did it so I could get a camera shot of the nut on top of the mount.

That's the hard way. Take catalytic converter off. Take knock sensor off. Starter comes out quick and easy

Lot easier and faster if you full the converter off the exhaust!
Wrong. You can't just pull exhaust apart and expect it to go back together in Michigan!
