I changed the horizontal rod that pushes into the top clamp with an aluminium one. I painted to add slightly greater diameter and gently worked it into the clamps. I needed to pry the clamps apart a little to get it to fit. Once it’s in and the clamp is tightened it’s not moving (rotating). Whatever was moving where it shouldn’t have …. I used s/s screws in the plastic mount to stop the rotation. It ain’t going anywhere now 😂😂😂
😂 omg, that horizontal rod and clamp system gave me such a headache. Poor design of the clamp. I wrapped duct tape around the shaft to try to increase the diameter but it didn’t work so I also screwed a stainless screw through the bottom of the plastic clamp and into the rod. Finally it stopped moving lol so funny we both ended up doing the same thing
Great question, the tiller handle that I have bungeed to the pvc extends a little beyond and I use my crate to block it from rotating. It really only rotates a little on high power but the crate prevents it. I will try and do a quick vid of the little things I’ve done since that help these little issues that come up. I also screwed in a screw at the top bar to prevent rotation
@@conokrasa987 if you have a crate behind your seat it won’t. But yeah it’s very much a jury rigged setup that’s not perfect and I’ve only done it once. I have a friend who is attempting to replicate this setup right now, I will try and get out the news how it turned out for him as soon as I can
I’m a pretty small person like 160lb but I loved my smaller kayak for both transporting and maneuvering around tight areas like a bridge when fishing. The first couple times out on the new one that is 12ft I thought it felt too big and I didn’t like the responsiveness. But now that I’m used to it, I love it and it doesn’t feel big at all and I really like the more spacious area and width that the 12ft has. I was actually thinking of getting the 10.5’ passport or this 12’ compass when I was looking to upgrade
@@PeterRanieriII so you think the 10.5 is okay? I'm 200lbs but it's nice and comfortable. Same, i got the smaller one because of ease to transport it and store it. My wife got the same one so it's easier to stack it.
@@Erwin838 I think it would be okay. Since transporting ease and storing are important then it makes sense and you’ll prob get used to it. From what I’ve heard the only two downsides really to the new passport 10.5 is the thermomold plastic a a bit thinner and harder to clean bc of the rougher texture but it should be great, theyr super lightweight. Let me know what you think after a couple outings!
Great little helper ya get there. And thanks for the nifty setup for the kayak motor mount.
Haha he def tries and I love that. Hope it continues as he gets older, lol thanks I hope it was helpful in some way!

great idea. i would glue pvc table to pipe. I'd also use nylon lock nuts. Great idea. Thanks
Thanks and I totally agree! That’s def what this was, just an idea, I hope you make it better!
Thanks for posting this Peter, I will be sure to reference this video if I ever do upgrade to the watersnake!
You got it! My new favorite tool is that heat gun, I think it can be used to fix cuts in your hull too
Good video as want to do the same to my kayak. When you used it, how did it stop it from rotating in rod holder?

@@PeterRanieriII I wanted to do something similar but am also worried about it twisting in the rod holder under power

How did you like your 10ft kayak? I just got the 10.5ft passport and thinking it might be too small. I know you upgraded to this one now

Ha ha ha.........your not listening dad.
Haha he’s my #1 assistant. Always trying to help out. Hope it’s like that when he’s older though so he can actually make my life easier 😆
You should definitely remeasure all those things cuz the ones you put are all wrong lol
My bad, seriously?! Is it the bolts mostly? Honestly most of them I had lying around so I def could have been off. Will take a closer 👀
