I bought this motor with the transom mount from BCF today to go on a 3 Waters Big Fish 120 in the same way. The 120 has a removable pod and the motor fits through the lower slot in the hull perfectly. Ive just got to work out wether to shorten it like you did but have the controls on or near my seat or put it in whole and just turn the top around 180* so the controls face me. One good thing about it going in whole is I can retract it up into the hull when Im in shallow water without having to take anything off.
@@outbackshadz3809 Got it sorted and it works a treat. I had to buy a rudder, the ass was all over the place. Didn't have to cut anything, only turned the top of the Watersnake around 180*.
Just finished building mine (well, still need to put it in the water ...) but thanks for the step by step. I did use the head unit to scribe my notch and hole template. Good suggestions. I also used a 3/4' pvc with a notch (made it like a rudimentary spoon) and slid it in the metal shaft to protect the wires from the initial drill puncture through the metal. I also used the collet that was supplied for under the water, and took the transom mount and cannibalized it (took the sleeve part off and used it as an upper collet). Therefore, I can raise and lower (say, to the tune of 10-12cm up or down) depending on the depth of my water while the lower collet assures that my prop doesn't hit the yak. The pipe cutter is crucial. I borrowed one, but knowing how easy and clean the cut was, I would buy one if I had to. Good luck to all who venture this route, and it is certainly worth the time, if you wish to pay ~$150 rather than $1000+ for the Bixpy. BTW, the salt watersnake is on sale right now (12/29/2022) on Amazon for $92!
One thing you could do is find a minn kota variable speed header controll unit and swap it out with the 2 speed watersnake. I think that would give you better battery life and ability to finetune your speed.
Glad you found it useful! I wanted to make a straight to the point video hoping to benefit anyone that wants to do this awesome mod. Yeah the van is awesome makes travelling very easy. Would really appreciate if you can subscribe to the channel it motivates me to put out more content👍
@@outbackshadz3809 yes I was going to buy a motor just found out I have to pay a license fee to have a motor on my kayak😁 love how you go straight to the point no mucking about😁
There is person in Miami, makes custom cassette. $99 on eBay. I didn’t cut my motor shaft. Took head off, put shaft thru hole in cassette. Put motor head back on. I added a hose clamp to motor shaft. I plan on adding pvc pipe to handle. It’s too short for my 2011 PA14. T24 works great in fresh and saltwater.
Hi there, can you please let me know where I can get one of the centre consoles from and are they compatible with the galaxy kayak range. Hope to hear from you soon. The Chanel is great and very informative too. Keep up the good work too
Hey man thanks for the step by step... I noticed for the foam that you bought the 20oz can do yo think the 12oz can would be enough to fill that same cassette? Thanks in advance!
I am about to perform this same project and this video was extremely helpful! Thank you for taking the time to make it. For the battery connection, did you use a circuit breaker or inline fuse and if so, what size breaker/fuse?
hahahaha I too put way too much foam in and it kept leaking all night (lol) Ended up making a stainless collar with a grub screw to lock it down straight.
👋 Hi Thanks for sharing this🤓 I would like to know where to buy just the cassette part ( the big grey, that one you put the foam in). Can you help me? Thanks Frank
hey by any chance do you have the dimensions of the motor part?? Trying to plan a build on a different kayak brand. the peddle drive opening is different. would really appreciate it
Great video. Question: is there any significant difference between the cassette you have here (grey/black) vs. the other common one (all black)? Yours looks more substantial but I’m not sure if that’s the case. I just wonder if one is more beefy or rigid than the other. Thank you.
How did you connect the motor to the 50ah battery? The motor has two clips at the end of the wiring but the battery doesn’t have exposed terminals to clip to. Did you convert the connections some way?
I think he meant: instead of cutting then discarding the top half (thus having to drill and cut notches), can you remove the motor and discard the bottom half more easily?
hey mate any tips on filling the cassette up with the foam? ive bought that same foam and filled the cassette up 3 times, every time i feel like the foam escapes the cassette isnt even half way full
I think it would be overkill on the kayak. Plus it will add alot more force on the mounting point which I don’t think will be a good idea in the long term.
Why not just put the adapter on top to keep it from sliding down. Also wouldn't it make sense to keep the motor turnable so you can adjust it to pull sideways says if you caught a large fish and it started pulling the kayak sideways
Very nice detailed video. Im planning to do the same with my hobie passport. Thanks!🤘🏼

Back to $130 unfortunately 😕 😞 😔 😪

Great video, 👍 Can we cut a pipe from a motor side..
Great video .. did you shorten the wires ?
Thank you what a great video. I just ordered a watersnake too.

Hi mate nice job can I ask you how do you Aline the propeller to pull out the casete for the trolling motor 🤔
I use a coat hanger
I am about to perform this same project and this video was extremely helpful! Thank you for taking the time to make it. For the battery connection, did you use a circuit breaker or inline fuse and if so, what size breaker/fuse?
No breaker or fuse. Would be good to connect an emergency cut off
What's the measurements on the motor and rudder? I want to get one but I don't know if it fits my kayak.
hahahaha I too put way too much foam in and it kept leaking all night (lol) Ended up making a stainless collar with a grub screw to lock it down straight.
Its very sticky stuff!
Thanks for the video. What kind of battery do you use for the motor?
Fpv power 50amp lithium
@@outbackshadz3809 thanks
Hi mate, great videos. do you think the watersnake motor will go as equally well in a Feelfree lure kayak?
I dont see why not. there are also brackets you can get to side mount it.
👋 Hi Thanks for sharing this🤓 I would like to know where to buy just the cassette part ( the big grey, that one you put the foam in). Can you help me? Thanks Frank
You can buy it direct from hobie
@@outbackshadz3809 thanks!!
Great video for Watersnake Hobie users. What's the size of the stainless steel tube? 25mm you were saying?
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome great idea !!!
Glad you liked it!
hello and congratulations. one question, did you build the central body where you insert the tube or did you find it on the internet? thank you
It came with the kayak
interesting, looks pretty cool
Very!

Glad you enjoyed it Chazzman. Im not sure if there is any difference between the 2.
How wide is the actual motor ? I’m wondering if it will fit my Pelican catch 130
Have you thought of installing a “kill switch” just in case you fall out?
I have but have yet to find a suitable kill switch
How did you connect the motor to the 50ah battery? The motor has two clips at the end of the wiring but the battery doesn’t have exposed terminals to clip to. Did you convert the connections some way?
I converted the connections to an anderson plug
What gauge is the anderson plug?
Can you tell me where to purchase a spare prop for the 18-24 lb. thrust water snake
Try BCF or boating stores
Why would you not remplace the part of the sube at the motor with the top part that Hal all the noches already?
You can if you dont cut the pole to shorten it.
I think he meant: instead of cutting then discarding the top half (thus having to drill and cut notches), can you remove the motor and discard the bottom half more easily?
I was thinking the same. Unless you cannot access the lower housing. Overall great video. Thanks for taking the time to share.
lower housing is sealed, motor controlls (top) is just screw fixed.
hey mate any tips on filling the cassette up with the foam? ive bought that same foam and filled the cassette up 3 times, every time i feel like the foam escapes the cassette isnt even half way full
Dont stress about the foam mate dont think is does much to be honest.
Did you consider the 34lb thrust version of this motor? What would be the pros and cons?
I think it would be overkill on the kayak. Plus it will add alot more force on the mounting point which I don’t think will be a good idea in the long term.
@@outbackshadz3809 would a 34lb thrust fit through the hull? I got the 24lb and it is horrible in the current.
What size should be to fit thrue the hole?
Can you buy the transom version and still get it to work with the Hobie cassette?
This was the transom version you just need to remove the bracket
What kind of battery you use with that trolling motor
Fpv power 50amp lithium
I will like to know if this will work on my pa 360? please let me know
Dont think it will unless you can get a similar fixed cassette

I can turn the motor Ive got a dowel locking it in place straight and simply remove the dowel and can turn the motor.
Where is the motor controller? Is that in the motor section?
Yes it’s in the top section of the motor head.
Whats an easy way to unplug all the wires in the motor? Im struggling lol
There is no easy way LOL. They are hard to get off use long nose pliers
@@outbackshadz3809 I finally got it. Man do they really place em all in the tiniest crevice imaginable lol. Thanks for the response though!
