I'd say the most heartbreaking goodbye(s) are the ones from The End Of Time Part II. In his last moments, Ten Visits every of his companions one last Time.
No, Donna should have been number 1, that one was the worst. She didn't just lose the Doctor, she lost every bit of the person she had become through travelling with him. Though I personally wasn't a big fan of Rose, I acknowledge that she would show up high on the list, but for me she would have been more midway (probably doesn't help that as a Norwegian I couldn't stop laughing at the horrible mistranslated "Bad Wolf Bay" ordeal). Donna's end however was nothing short of devastating. Happy that River is at least top 5, would have cried foul if she hadn't been up there. There are too many gut-wrenching goodbyes in her story to ignore her. Though at the same time, that particular goodbye was also partly a happy one, at least on her part.

rose was the love of the doctors life, so she will always be top of the list. donna ans martha were only inserted to provide the 10th doctor with some comfort after losing rose. even amy and rory come above donna.as they are more significant-they are the parents of river song. so 1) rose 2) amy and rory 3) donna. and donna really comes along with wilfred-wilfred is in fact far more emotional to say goodbye to than donna, as donna was comedic relief. clara also was more significant than donna in the timeline, as she went into the timestream to become the doctors saviour and ended up cheating death with timelord medicine and stealing a tardis from galifrey to travel around like the doctor. she was important, but never really felt that emotional about her loss. she was quite cold and detached. so yes i put donna before clara because of the emotional connection being stronger.
I agree (though late to the game, lol) Donna had grown so much and had become the truly brilliant person the Doctor always believed her to be. She found her compassion, kindness, self-love and self-confidence and a way to express herself that wasn't indicative of self-loathing. It killed me to see her go like that.
There’s a damn cyberman head on this list and Jenny, a random character who we don’t get enough fleshing out to actually care about, and nobody from the Capaldi era and Jo Grant’s departure is also missed out smh
Jenny deserves to be on this list. Don’t forget that the Doctor lost his whole family in the time war. He had to watch another of his children die and that’s what’s heartbreaking.

The only thing I didn't like about The Husbands of River Song, is that she was guessing that she's going to die after their night on Darillium, because in Forest of the Dead she realises it when she handcuffed the Doctor and prepares for the procedure. For me personally it takes away from the impact of the original scene.
When we see the pictures of all the Doctors she knows and 12 is not among them, that broke my heart. So we know for sure now, every future incarnation she won't meet or when they meet, she won't recognise the Doctor.
I love the trenzalore scene it's sooo emotional especially "you're always here to me" and "i thought it would hurt to much and I was right it hurt me" my heart couldn't take it but rewatching silence in the library after knowing the whole story is heartbreaking as he didn't know who she was after everything that's happened between them

When the Doctor and Sarah tell each other not to forget them, I don’t want to say it gets me in the feels but I got that feeling in the pit of my stomach. That's the thing with Doctor Who lists, unless they are about the original run, they almost always have more of the newer episodes than the old. As if they don't want the alienate the younger audience

I still can't watch Rose's goodbye without crying my heart out. THEY LOVED EACH OTHER, NO ONE CAN BEAT THEIR BOND! And I'm still not over the tenth doctors regeneration, David really owned the role. But Donna's was also heartbreaking too 😭

DW Tube when the list started I thought they were only doing companion exits but then 10 popped up. His departure was the saddest but 11 was also quite sad. 12 went out fighting which I loved. Maybe Missy should have been here too? I cried when she died lol
I think 10 went out whimpering with a sort of ego shown in the end of time which was really unlike him, but I loved 11’s and 12’s. Also, not that many people seem to think about it but Missy’s death was one of the saddest, she turned good but the doctor never got to know and thought she was still as ruthless and heartless as the Master always has been

I know how so many people think that Rose's goodbye is overrated but u have to admit him saying Rose Tyler and not being able to finish the sentence which is of course 'i love u' is gutwrenching and u can see how much she meant to him with the shot of him standing alone in the TARDIS with tears streaming down his face
The most heart breaking good-byes in Doctor Who are the deaths of Owen, Toshiko, and Ianto from Torchwood, the regenerations of 10 and 11, Donna losing her memory, and Bad Wolf Bay. All of those would make me tear up. Also, 10 saying good-bye to Sarah Jane in The End of Time is just as bad since it was Elisbeth Sladen's last appearance on Doctor Who before her death.
Out of all of the ones on the list I'm so glad Tegan was on the list. It always broke my heart the way she left as she falls out of love with travelling in the TARDIS and then she comes back to say a proper goodbye and is too late

the biggest heart breaking moment is when the 7th Doctor who was the darkest Doctor, the ultimate schemer/masterplanner is killed. The 7th doctors death was actually fitting because his death was a result of pure randomness that he couldn't plan for, facilitated by the Master (busting the TARDIS and causing it to make an emergency stop). Sure, the bullets didn't kill him, but ignorance did. A highly intelligent being slain by ignorant humans after an act of randomness he couldn't see coming. His death was also the most brutal, nasty regeneration and, due to being depressed at the end of his run, it's sad to know he died alone, companionless/friendless, but this was also down to his scheming ways. A lot of people go on about "I don't want to go" being one of the saddest departures. For me, it was 7th's. Shot, killed during surgery, dying completely alone and helplessly unable to stop what he knew was going to happen - and almost didn't regenerate at all due to the medication. THAT is a sad regeneration, not 25minutes of goodbyes followed by a one-liner.
Donna should have been no1 as her departure was more tragic than Rose. At least rose could remember the doctor and there time together. That was all taken from Donna, along with the person that she became, to me is a much more devastating, every thing she did gone. Also the ending of doctor falls should of been on here

Donna's and Amy and Rory's departures were more heartbreaking than Rose's. Amy's and Rory's had me shaking because I didn't see it coming. Also the eleventh doctor's reaction was heartbreaking. Donna's was just tragic. I was a mess after watching it.
I haven’t seen a single list that gives Matt Smiths goodbye a spot, which confuses the hell out of me cuz 9 cut deep but left the show with some happy words, 10 ripped my heart out with one phrase and then brought it back in the 50th anniversary, but nobody sent off like Matt Smith his speech was heartbreaking and loving and that last scene with Amy can’t fail to make you cry.
Sarah's departure is the only goodbye that deserves to be at number 1, the classic series is simply WAY better at tugging at the emotional heartstrings of the viewer
it's weird to me that people don't seem to think Rose's goodbye was sad? She was the one who saved him after the Time War, she was the one he loved so much that 1.) he regenerated for her and 2.) to end their story they created a clone of him for her to live happily ever after with because it was the only way that made sense for their story to end. He loved her in a very clear way that he hadn't ever shown to another companion. So to see them initially separated the way that they were in Doomsday was just gut-wrenching. Amy and Rory leaving was devastating but they at least had each other, Donna admittedly deserves second place on here, but there's something just so gut-wrenching about that scene in Doomsday with Rose and the 10th Doctor where he is trying to tell her that he loves her, but gets cut off, that just broke my heart. The sight of the two of them at the white walls will always make my heart hurt. It was well-deserving of the top spot on this very, very sad and depressing list.

I've been watching regeneration scenes since the Fourth Doctor regenerated into the Fifth back in the 80s and I never cried until the Eleventh regenerated into the Twelfth.
For me Clara's departure hurt the most, with her being my favourite companion it just hurt... shame they totally ruined it by bringing her back an episode later.
Tbh when the tenth doctor regenerated, I cried, but when we had to say bye to rose, I was sad, but didn’t cry, so for me, David Tennant’s ‘I don’t wanna go!’ Brings tears to my eyes almost every time, so that’d be number one for me!

Billions of years of life and he gives his last breath to save an entire city, then tells the Doctor his final secret - You are not alone - before finally passing away.

I've been having a Doctor Who marathon, which I started back in January. I just watched "The End of Time" and the Tenth Doctor's regeneration certainly is one of the sadder regenerations. Hey, why couldn't there be an honourable mention list? I personally find Jo Grant's farewell in "The Green Death" quite emotional and feel it should have been included on here somewhere. Still, at least Susan's farewell is on here even though it's #10 here.

DW Tube when the list started I thought they were only doing companion exits but then 10 popped up. His departure was the saddest but 11 was also quite sad. 12 went out fighting which I loved. Maybe Missy should have been here too? I cried when she died lol
I think 10 went out whimpering with a sort of ego shown in the end of time which was really unlike him, but I loved 11’s and 12’s. Also, not that many people seem to think about it but Missy’s death was one of the saddest, she turned good but the doctor never got to know and thought she was still as ruthless and heartless as the Master always has been

The most heart breaking good-byes in Doctor Who are the deaths of Owen, Toshiko, and Ianto from Torchwood, the regenerations of 10 and 11, Donna losing her memory, and Bad Wolf Bay. All of those would make me tear up. Also, 10 saying good-bye to Sarah Jane in The End of Time is just as bad since it was Elisbeth Sladen's last appearance on Doctor Who before her death.

I really admire that this channel takes strides to include Classic Who moments. My most heartbreaking goodbye though is a tie, between the death of Adric and the Doctor's salute to the Brigadier.

the biggest heart breaking moment is when the 7th Doctor who was the darkest Doctor, the ultimate schemer/masterplanner is killed. The 7th doctors death was actually fitting because his death was a result of pure randomness that he couldn't plan for, facilitated by the Master (busting the TARDIS and causing it to make an emergency stop). Sure, the bullets didn't kill him, but ignorance did. A highly intelligent being slain by ignorant humans after an act of randomness he couldn't see coming.
His death was also the most brutal, nasty regeneration and, due to being depressed at the end of his run, it's sad to know he died alone, companionless/friendless, but this was also down to his scheming ways.
A lot of people go on about "I don't want to go" being one of the saddest departures. For me, it was 7th's. Shot, killed during surgery, dying completely alone and helplessly unable to stop what he knew was going to happen - and almost didn't regenerate at all due to the medication. THAT is a sad regeneration, not 25minutes of goodbyes followed by a one-liner.
Donna should have been no1 as her departure was more tragic than Rose. At least rose could remember the doctor and there time together. That was all taken from Donna, along with the person that she became, to me is a much more devastating, every thing she did gone. Also the ending of doctor falls should of been on here

Tbh the only reason I really like Rose is because the Doctor liked her and she was the first companion in the revived series. Other than that, she can be cringey at times. I didn't care for Billie's performance, but at the same time I can't imagine anyone else playing Rose.

Donna's and Amy and Rory's departures were more heartbreaking than Rose's. Amy's and Rory's had me shaking because I didn't see it coming. Also the eleventh doctor's reaction was heartbreaking. Donna's was just tragic. I was a mess after watching it.

I haven’t seen a single list that gives Matt Smiths goodbye a spot, which confuses the hell out of me cuz 9 cut deep but left the show with some happy words, 10 ripped my heart out with one phrase and then brought it back in the 50th anniversary, but nobody sent off like Matt Smith his speech was heartbreaking and loving and that last scene with Amy can’t fail to make you cry.

it's weird to me that people don't seem to think Rose's goodbye was sad? She was the one who saved him after the Time War, she was the one he loved so much that 1.) he regenerated for her and 2.) to end their story they created a clone of him for her to live happily ever after with because it was the only way that made sense for their story to end. He loved her in a very clear way that he hadn't ever shown to another companion. So to see them initially separated the way that they were in Doomsday was just gut-wrenching. Amy and Rory leaving was devastating but they at least had each other, Donna admittedly deserves second place on here, but there's something just so gut-wrenching about that scene in Doomsday with Rose and the 10th Doctor where he is trying to tell her that he loves her, but gets cut off, that just broke my heart. The sight of the two of them at the white walls will always make my heart hurt. It was well-deserving of the top spot on this very, very sad and depressing list.

Donna should be number 1. Even River Song knows how much of a heartbreaking goodbye that is. Because while everyone else who have said goodbye to The Doctor, memories are everything. Those experiences changed those people for the better. But Donna had her memory wiped.

How Rose beat Donna can only be summed up as being due to her being being favored for the sake of it for fanboys.
For me Clara's departure hurt the most, with her being my favourite companion it just hurt... shame they totally ruined it by bringing her back an episode later.

Tbh when the tenth doctor regenerated, I cried, but when we had to say bye to rose, I was sad, but didn’t cry, so for me, David Tennant’s ‘I don’t wanna go!’ Brings tears to my eyes almost every time, so that’d be number one for me!

Donna should have been above Rose. Sure, Rose was probably more beloved by fans, but at least she got to keep her memories of her adventures with the Doctor. Donna lost _everything._ She went from the savior of the universe to nothing. Her farewell was beyond heartbreaking, it was tragic.
Also, the Face of Boe deserves an honorable mention. Billions of years of life and he gives his last breath to save an entire city, then tells the Doctor his final secret - You are not alone - before finally passing away.

I've been having a Doctor Who marathon, which I started back in January. I just watched "The End of Time" and the Tenth Doctor's regeneration certainly is one of the sadder regenerations.
Hey, why couldn't there be an honourable mention list? I personally find Jo Grant's farewell in "The Green Death" quite emotional and feel it should have been included on here somewhere. Still, at least Susan's farewell is on here even though it's #10 here.
