  • There's no anthem more widely known by fans of Aussie Rules Football than 'Up There Cazaly', with Mike Brady performing the song every year at the AFL Grand Final. But just who was Cazaly and why has he been immortalised in footy’s most famous song?

    Hey! I’m Mike’s son and just wanted to say this video is spot-on and does a great job of explaining Cazaly’s legendary career and the origins of the expression. Dad first came across the saying “Up there Cazaly” as a young English immigrant in Port Melbourne when the nuns from his school would be barracking in the crowd and shout it out loud!

      Hi Mike! What a great anecdote thanks for sharing, very humbled to hear we’ve done the Cazaly and the lyrics justice. Best of luck with your channel!

    'Ruck Shepherd' never even heard of it! It's those little snippets that I love. Great content boys.

    Apparently he was responsible for Hawthorn changing their nickname from Mayblooms to Hawks, just another thing to add to his legacy.

      A very cool fact that unfortunately ended up on the cutting room floor as it was hard to find a definitive source to confirm it. We're still choosing to believe it though :)

      @@FootyA2Z I thought it was Jack Hale who came across from Carlton to coach the Hawks 1952-9. His successor John Kennedy credited Hale with imbuing the attitude that got Hawthorn its first Flag in 1961.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Hale_(Australian_footballer)

    That breathing thing is interesting as! There probably isn't much science behind it, but if it gave him a psychological advantage, I can see why he was such a good player

    • @kopkl1
      @kopkl1 11 місяців тому

      Guess what. The breathing probably actually did help because it would give his body more oxygen to work with, it probably also braced his core and helped him focus. When you’re at the gym and you do any sort of lift, what do you do? You take a big breath in and lift

    Forgive me if I am wrong, but it isn't Cazaly's stadium in Cairns named after Roy? Just thought it might have been worth mentioning as part of his legacy

    • @FootyA2Z
      @FootyA2Z  4 роки тому +12

      Yeah its definitely named after him. It was a strategy to try and promote afl in regional Queensland I believe

    Love your work but if you could turn down the background noise a touch next time that would be a great- it was a little difficult to hear the narration.
