      @@nuntana2 GoT doesn't stack up to Lost even without it's abysmal final season. Lost is much more relatable and natural, and it's also not based on a book like GoT so it's more original. I'd say GoT has a better and more complicated story but Lost is a better experience.

Also, he seemed to have a degree of super strength considering he was able to hang Charlie from a tree as well as lift him with one hand without effort, was skilled enough to beat the shit out of Jack, smart enough to fool them all into thinking he was one of them, and stealthy enough to kill one of them even when they were prepared and had traps set. The guy was clearly dangerous. Not to mention he also had the advantage of them being on his home turf.
      For all they knew, Ethan could've brought more of his friends with him, hence why it took all of them to capture him.

    People always are angry that Charlie killed Ethan because he could have given answers, but consider these things. First, as Charlie says, "do you really think he was gonna tell us anything?". People try to say Sayid could have tortured the information out of him, but I don't think so. Sayid didn't want to torture anybody and even if he would I doubt Ethan gives it up right away. This brings me to my next point-the Others would have inevitably came to either rescue or kill Ethan before he would talk. No way the Others were just gonna let someone stay captured. Especially when that person is their best doctor. They likely have to kill a few castaways before they could get to wherever Ethan was going to be detained. Ultimately, it was probally for the best Charlie killed Ethan.

    • @Hankblue
      @Hankblue 2 роки тому +9

      This is a silly take, even if Ethan didn't break under torture - which we don't really have any reason to believe - he was still valuable collateral to trade with the others. The others were sending people there irrespective of whether they had Ethan or not, at least this way they had leverage and a good idea of what they'd look for.
      And even if for some reason Ethan was immune to torture tactics, there was absolutely no reason not to try it first and kill him afterwards. Charlie quite clearly acted out of selfish and impulsive reasons and then tried to give weak rationalisations afterwards.

    • @ajl9772
      @ajl9772 2 роки тому

      @@Hankblue @Guillaume "which we don't really have any reason to believe" considering the lengths we see see the others go to later on to not talk as well as knowing how loyal Ethan was to them, it gives pretty good reasons to believe he wouldn't talk. What leverage would they have keeping Ethan if the others were willing to let him die or more likely kill him to prevent information leaking out? Oh I agree Charlie did it purely out of emotion. Logically it would have made sense to try and torture him for a day and then kill him. However, this wasn't gonna happen. Sayid didn't want to torture anyone at this time and even if he did and failed I doubt Jack lets him die. Look at what happened with Ben in season 2. I imagine something similar taking place if Ethan was captured. Ultimately, it's pretty clear the risks of Ethan being alive outweighed the benefits of him possibly giving information. Best case scenario the others manage to negotiate a peaceful trade for Ethan and the losties get some information. Worst case multiple of them die

    • @Hankblue
      @Hankblue 2 роки тому +4

      @@ajl9772 I mean this is season one, neither the characters nor the viewers have any reason to believe he wouldn't talk. Sure if you want to talk about an omniscient viewer they could make that assumption, but an omniscient viewer would also still has every right to be angry at Charlie for being stupid and impulsive. Also, how are you simultaneously asserting that he wouldn't talk, but then also saying "the others would come and kill/rescue him to make sure he doesn't talk"? These two stipulations are inconsistent with one another.
      There are any number of ways they could leverage Ethan. a) He was valuable to the others outright as a surgeon. b) They could have had him think he'd escaped and then followed him to the others to gain information about them. c) They could have used him as bait to capture more others trying to kill/rescue him. There were dozens of ways they could have used him to their advantage.
      I don't think the risks of him being alive outweighed the benefits at all. If you want to talk hyptheticals I can just as easily stipulate a scenario where keeping Ethan alive and using him as leverage was the difference between people living and dying.

    • @ajl9772
      @ajl9772 2 роки тому +1

      @@Hankblue My point was that everything worked out for the best based on what we later learn so the whole omniscient viewer thing is irrelevant to this conversation. Im saying Ethan wouldn't talk, but that doesn't mean the others would trust this to be the case. Why would the take the slightest chance he may talk when they can make it absolutely zero? Nice try, but the 2 do not contradict each other.
      Option A assumes Ethan talks and tells him their value, which again how much did they truly value him. They sent their valuable surgeon in alone to clean up his mess. They tried to follow Ethan before and failed miserably. Yes they could have tried to use him as bait. How you think that plays out? The others had an actual army lol. Yes there are several ways the could have used him for their advantage and they all likely end in failure. Im sure you could write a good fan fiction. However, it's a fact the others hilariously outmatched the survivors in both numbers and resources. The survivors got a 2nd opportunity later where they had a hostage and how did that play out again? Odds are overwhelmingly in the others favor. Risk easily outweighs the rewards of keeping him alive.

    • @Hankblue
      @Hankblue 2 роки тому +2

      @@ajl9772 What do you mean "everything worked out for the best"? There are plenty of things that could have worked out better, and leveraging Ethan could easily have been an integral part of that. I like how you're super selective about your counter factuals picking out only hypotheticals where stuff could have gone wrong, and disregarding all counter-factuals that involve stuff working out better.
      Oh so for you, who watched all of like 15 minutes of screen time involving Ethan, there's no chance he would talk. But for the others who knew him for decades there's a chance he talks. I'll probably go with the judgement of the people that have known him orders of magnitude longer then 🤔

    Answer me this…
    How is it that Ethan didn’t recognized Locke after Oceanic 815 crashed?
    Locke teleported back to the Nigerian plane crash and tried to reason with Ethan (who shot him) about being their leader. Locke disappears with the flashes and Ethan is somehow cool with the idea that the passenger from Oceanic 815 looks exactly like the teleporting guy.
    That scene was unnecessary because Ethan never developed any interest towards Locke. It would have been a cool way to pay off his curiosity towards Locke if in season 1 Ethan asked suspicious questions.
    Such as: “Hey… are you sure we never met before?” , “Have you ever been shot?”, “Does the name ‘Richard’ means something to you?”

      You do realize Jack would beat the shit out of Locke right ?

    • @dreadrath
      @dreadrath 4 роки тому +1

      At some stage the writers were going to have Locke fight Ethan before Jack did, apparently Locke would manage to stab or injure Ethan in the ensuing melee, but would ultimately lose and get knocked out by Ethan, at which point Jack would come along and this fight would happen. But they excluded it for whatever reason, my guess is if Ethan was injured it'd devalue Jack winning in the rematch. Plus another problem is Locke is pretty old, like he's still a badass, but honestly I don't think he'd beat Ethan, a younger Locke might have, though.

      @@dreadrath Old comment I know but I just wanted to pitch in. I envision Locke dispatching Ethan easily. With all that training he did in the show, zipping a blade into a man's chest from a distance wouldn't be unimaginable. Hell even a skull. Say the gap was closed, Locke would garrote the neck, spinal, or other vital areas. Not impossible, especially with the length of blade he uses. Far less likely for anyone to be able to defend a blade with their bare hands without serious or fatal injury, although I will add it is more than possible for Ethan to take out Locke permanently. A tackle and ripping the knife from his grip, using it against him. Risky but it could work. Locke 8/10 encountera wins imo.

      @@TheJackHamlet I guess it comes down to circumstance, like who has the drop on who. Yeah in close quarters I'd give it to Ethan, Locke is a bit too old for that kind of combat (Maybe a younger Locke with old Locke's skills would have a chance) I mean Locke throws a good punch but Ethan is a beast in hand to hand (Kind of funny that they both beat the crap out of poor Charlie) Locke could hold out for a little while I suppose, but Its possible Ethan might have a blade of his own, though from what we saw, he never really used one, so its hard to say.
      I'm inclined to agree with you on a fight over a distance since Locke usually has a gun and knives, but ethan have his gun at the ready too. If Loicke reacts first they could end up getting wounding or killing, a knife then a bullet. But if Ethan reacts first, Locke ain't faster than a bullet. There's also the hunter/stalker skills of both men, Locke admitted Ethan may have known more about tracking, but that might also be because Ethan had superior knowledge of the island.
      Either way, if they're both after eachother, it might come down to who is the stealthiest and most cunning and is able to ambush the other first, and quickly enough that the other can't react in time.

    Honestly, it’s better that Charlie killed him there. Ethan seems like a really tough guy, he probably wouldn’t have given anything up while being tortured, and he’s also a pretty strong guy, he most likely would have escaped eventually anyway.

    Sorry but I always thought this was the stupidest move of all time. Charlie is a total waste of space. By killing Ethan he placed Claire and everyone else in greater danger. Sayid could have gotten the information out of him.
    And this is the guy who later abducts Sun just so he can humiliate Locke?
