I agree at this point the survivors had little chance get the drop on the Others on their turf and lead a successful rescue. That wasn't the point. The point was the futility of murdering Ana Lucia and Libby. Everyone was already eager to go after the Others as soon as Michael said he knew their location. The Network wanted the two DUI nabbed actors OFF the show (or at least that's what the buzz was at the time). They had to write the two off the show ASAP. The ONLY way the writers thought to do that was to have them killed, and to shocking effect, the wrote one of the main characters turning "bad" out of desperation. Could they have created a stronger predicate for Michael's actions? Sure. Could they have established a better way for what unfolded to have happened? Perhaps. Maybe Michael could have walked in on Ana-Lucia pointing the gun at Ben and thinking she intended to kill him, and wrestling the gun from her, she got shot...and then Libby walking in seeing Michael holding the gun standing over Ana-Lucia. Michael looking at Ben realizing that this was his only way of releasing Ben and only chance to get Walt, saying to Libby I wish you hadn't come. I wish NONE of this was happening, but I have to get my son. And then Michael shooting Libby...begging Ben to give him his son.

    • @melrupinski88
      @melrupinski88 4 дні тому

@@BabyMatiny There aren’t a lot of specifics available, but it’s a pretty safe assumption that most of the conflict we see between Ben and Locke in the last few seasons would have been between Eko and Locke. The writers were setting up this adversarial relationship starting with the conflict over pushing the button. It’s also probably not a leap to think that Eko might have been the one to kill Jacob, considering the the MiB scanned him but didn’t kill him (usually he reserved the scanning for people he thought would be useful).
One specific plot arc that was given to another character (and I’m sorry, I can’t remember exactly where I heard this) is that Desmond’s flashes of Charlie’s death were originally planned for Eko. Again, the writers were setting this up with Charlie helping Eko build the church.
It’s hard to say how each of these characters would have been affected if Adewale stayed. Michael Emerson has stated that he was hired to play Henry Gale, a balloonist, for 3 or 4 episodes. After seeing his performance, the writers created Ben just for him, so there’s no telling how important to the story they originally envisioned him. There were plans to go more into the Annie and Ben story and a Ben-centric flashback episode before they had to scrap Eko and re-work his arc, so Ben’s character may have been completely different.
Desmond is particularly hard to say, since he was always a borderline main character, and at one point voted the viewers’ favorite. Does Eko getting the flashes mean that the whole “not Penny’s boat” scenario doesn’t happen? Hard to imagine since that was such an important part of the story, especially in seasons 2-4. Interesting to speculate, though.

Michael's actions were definitely wrong, but cmon everybody cut him some slack. All of his flashbacks are focused on his kid, that's how much he loved him and it's really sad that he didn't have to move on. One would do anything for their child. Even Ben, who was so cold hearted at times, couldn't deal with Alex's death. Even though Michael's actions were bad there were worse things people did. And to say he didn't try to redeem himself? My man went back TO THE FUCKING ISLAND WILLINGLY to make up for his mistakes. He died a hero's death, even though noone sees it. He didn't deserve to be a whisper. He did so many things in the first season and was very helpful. So just view Michael from another angle and not just the one of a traitor and maybe you'll see why he wasn't bad at all at the end of the day and that he was just a struggling man trying his best. His way of handling all this was stupid and cowardly.

He couldn't take the risk of a group of stranger's arranging a plan and carrying it out successfully. He knew how well organized the other's were and knew if he tried to disobey him then they had the means to do anything. Literally they could recapture michael and then kill walt right in front of him to teach him a lesson. I don't blame Michael for what he did.

What I don't get to this day is why Michael had to be given a list with the names of the 4 most important/well known people of their group. Why he kept it on him way after he freed Ben? I get that lists are what the others do, but this is still kinda stupid.

Jacob writes lists to give to Richard to give to Ben. Ben confirmed the lists came from Jacob in the statue.

@@user-hu9vi7nk1lThis list wasn’t Jacob’s, it was Ben’s, and it was all part of Ben’s plan to coerce Jack into removing the tumor on his spine. Hurley was there just to deliver the message back to the camp. Ben knew Kate was Jack’s soft spot (after the run-in with Tom Friendly when they went after Michael and Kate was captured). Sawyer was there because of the triangle with him, Kate and Jack so Jack’s emotions could be manipulated.
Ultimately things could have gone a lot smoother if Ben straight up made a deal with Jack: Ben’s release and the surgery for Walt’s return, but I guess that wouldn’t have made as compelling a story.

@@melrupinski88 the list was Jacob's. Danny even said it was Jacob's list. Jacob sees the future and knew sawyer Kate jack and hurley would be the 4 surviving candidates when Jacob passed the torch to jack. He gave Ben the list to bring the 4 of them to safety for when the hatch exploded. Jacob does the same thing is season 6 when he gets hurley and Jack to go to the lighthouse when mib attacks the temple he says "I had to get you as far away from there as possible". Once the hatch exploded Ben was probably supposed to release all of them but kept Kate sawyer and Jack for his own plan.
Its the same with Ben kidnapping children, Carl confirmed the reason they were taken was to give them better lives, Jacob gave a list to Ben through Richard to bring the children to the barracks so they wouldn't have to live like survivalists but Ben decided how to bring them and it's one of the reasons Ben was banished.

@@user-hu9vi7nk1l Interesting theory, but there are some major holes that can’t be reconciled:
      1) There is a major difference between the Temple and the Hatch. Namely, no one died when Desmond turned the failsafe key, not even Eko or Locke, who were inside the Swan at the time (as opposed to the Temple where anyone who didn’t align with the MiB was killed). If Jacob could see the future, he would have known this, so saving the candidates was unnecessary.
      2) What we know from the show itself about Jacob’s lists that the Others knew about, Jack and Kate (at least) weren’t on them: Danny states that Jack isn’t on the list, and Mikhail states Kate (and Sayid) were not on the list. Now, it is possible that Jacob has a separate list for candidates, but it’s clear that Richard didn’t know about it (therefore Ben and the Others wouldn’t have). Even Dogen didn’t know about it until Hurley gave him the ankh from Jacob several seasons later.
      3) Most importantly, you appear to be forgetting this event that happened a few days prior (island time) in the Exposé episode, when Paolo was hiding the diamonds in the Pearl’s toilet:
[Ben and Juliet enter the main room and turn on one of the monitors, revealing the Swan station with Jack in the shot.]
      JULIET: That him? Shephard?
      BEN: Yes.
JULIET: He's cute. Why are we doing this? Shephard will never agree to do the surgery.
BEN: No, I can convince him to do it.
      JULIET: How?
BEN: Same way I get anybody to do anything. I find out what he's emotionally invested in, and I exploit it.
JULIET: So, what? We just grab all three of them, Ford and Austen too?
BEN: No, they need to come to us.
JULIET: And how do we make that happen?
      BEN: Michael, of course.
It’s clear that the list was made by Ben and given to Michael in furtherance of his plan to get Jack to do the surgery. Unless, of course, you really believe that Jacob miraculously delivers a list to Ben that includes everyone Ben had just days earlier mentioned as part of his plan to manipulate Jack into performing the spinal surgery - all to protect them from a non-existent threat.
