Hey, Craig, I am a retired EE. And one of the old guys gave me a good suggestion. Lick your fingertip before touching the chip, just in case something is out of control. If it pops spit when you touch the chip, over 100C. My finger also tops out at about 60C to keep my finger on it.
Awesome Stuff Craig. I was sleepin on the sales and I won't get mine until February now!!! I want an 8GB model... "buy once cry once" as they say. (Not really at these prices though)
Great stuff....I only recently found your videos. Got my license a few years ago and trying to get back into it. Have to ask, can you tell me more about that desktop arcade in the background? I've always wanted one of those larger ones, but that size looks perfect to have. I want one too!!!
@KM6LYW if the Pi 5 can run it and you can add Vara in all its colours to the DigiPi image then I think we will need no other setup for the majority of digital modes.
@talmidandy - vara is closed source and proprietary, kind of a genetic dead end. The technology is amazing, however it's x86/Windows only, requiring multiple levels of emulation on the Pi requiring pi4 or better. It doesn't advance the art, and, given the license, I can't legally redistribute the software. for HF email, ARDOP is included and serves the purpose of vara in that case.
".. But hey we all got noise problems, right?" ... no sir. One thing apartment living did for me is force me outside doing POTA. Rarely hear *any* noise in the forests and mountain tops.
Craig what is the possibility of you and Jason KM4ACK doing a joint build? love aspects of both your builds. I like your script web functionality and I like his conky and all over software suite. Thanks
Yah, i think each approach appeals to different users. My goal is to get people excited about data modes with minimum effort, even though you'll learn more by building your own OS/apps/hardware combos.
Very cool. Is this specific to the Icom 705 or would it work with other radios? I currently have a xiegu g90 I've been trying to get set up for digital modes
Nice, I've installed Ham Pi on a Raspberry Pi 5, everything works so far except WSJTX, it receives and decodes, and it keys my IC7300 but doesn't transmit audio. What audio input and output settings are you using? -Jim de W8JLB
run alsamixer to set levels, also make sure the ic7300 is in "USB-D" mode (Data), displayed in upper left corner. don't replug the usb cable, or the device file will change too.
Intermittently? we noticed silent-transmit on every 3rd frame or so if you picked "plughw" for audio device, instead of default. otherwise, stable imho.
I installed FLDIGI on my new Raspberry Pi 5. Sadly, it slows down the mouse cursor to a level that makes it unusable. Anyone else who had better luck? Any suggestions?

ONE!
Love the strumming tune of those strings, I played it over! God bless - from the U.A.E.

? Can the digi-pi be configured for YSF?
I recently got my pi5 (8gb) with the CPU heatsink/fan and the fan is pwm controlled and only runs when required 👌
Super cool, yah, I installed the big heat sink, the fan never comes on (spins a bit at power on, that's it)
Love your presentation, enthusiasm, and info!

How does the audio get from the rig to the pi? Over the usb?
Yes... USB and CAT control is all done over a single usb cable. ic705, ic7300, yaesu991, and more.
Always love the updates. 73, NE2Z
Do we need a usb sound card for the pi or does the icom705 have a built in sound card?
for the ic705, you just need a USB cable
Is there a more stable ver of js8 for pi 5? The one I have works intermittently.

I'll give that a try. Ty

you need to switch wayland to x using rasp-config. Fixed it for me
Godamn, I ordered that months ago and I have to wait until January.
You need your mouth washed out with soap.

I didn't catch it. Is version 1.8 bookworm 64 bit? If so it work on older pies - like pi zero 2w and 3b.
I'm running Bookworm 32bit in this video. My budget is 512MB of ram, 64bit builds can exceed that.
Ok…so how do you install js8call on pi 5?
sudo apt install js8call
Where do you get the DigiPi image?
The DigiPi SD Card image is for Patrons of the channel, available at digipi.org
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there's not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now!!
w000t!
