      I learned the hard way, I fixed a excal sword but never check the o rings, then when I took it in the water to test it was fine for about 5 minutes then it started going crazy, luckly it was pool water. From that point on I check all....and then I realized about 1 out 4 need o rings, specially any over 5 years old..Good Luck...most of the time it is the top o rings only....

    It gets a little boring as I am putting the o rings in but I want all to know that it is easy but may take a few minutes for each, you just have to keep working them in, just remember the more silicon grease you put in the harder it is to get them in. That's why I suggest maybe just coating them, then they go in very easy and still do the job...Thanks Guys, Good Luck to all this coming hunting season...

      +Joe Beechnut excellent video and advice as usual..to add to your method i just applied a tiny bit of silicone to the outer part of the pots o ring's so no sand sticks to it. also when i'm using the detector and adjusting the settings turn the knobs super slow so the potentiometers dont get worn out quicker (also saves wear and tear on the knobs)and to top it off i dunk the entire unit in a large bucket of fresh water after every use just to make sure the under part of the knobs get rinsed as well AND wipe the entire unit cables and all down with uv protectant spray......basically i baby the thing lol

    Hi Joe, great your video, I even got an Excalibur the very first model with the horseshoe disc, could you tell me how to remove the knobs? because I would like to change the gaskets and I'm afraid of breaking them. Thanks in advance.

    • @oldbeechnut
      @oldbeechnut  4 роки тому +1

      You will need to put masking tape up one side then the other to save the decal. Take a flat blade screw driver and work around each knob slowly prying them up and off.

    And what about other smaller rings, that installed inside on the shaft? Are they need replacement?

    • @oldbeechnut
      @oldbeechnut  Рік тому +1

      99.9% of the time they are not affected by the outside environment since they are totally sealed. And the only way they can be changed is if you break the excalibur down fully, than the shaft can be pushed from the outside into the inside of the control Pod and recovered. Than replacing them you will need to make a special tool to install the shafts that are in the middle of the Pod. I drilled out a tooth brush end (as a holder) so the middle shafts can be set back in place.

    I'd think putting sillycone grease on em would attract abrasive sand

    • @oldbeechnut
      @oldbeechnut  Рік тому +2

      Since the knobs set flat on the o-ring and small tube not much is exposed. So if you apply a lot and it squeezes out ..the area around will collect sand if you hunt rough water where the sand gets stirred up. The o-rings are covered so they are fine. Several years I hunted this type of water, where the surf is pounding the shore, never a problem.
