    Great video! My Ex II literally fell apart at 10 years. Minelab wanted over $500 to replace the cables. I used marine silicone to create a new wire sheath and that's how it sits for now. Now my other Minelab Xterra 305 is falling apart. Same problem. Some external compression connectors would solve all this headache. This company doesn't improve products so I will be going elsewhere.

      Thanks. Good idea about the marine silicon. I am not sure other manufacturers are much better, I have had to repair cables from nokta, garrett etc etc.

    You deserve a medal for that, what an outstanding job. This should be essential viewing for anyone who’s thinking of working on an Excalibur 😎👍

      Thanks, Bit of a long video but then the job is long winded and did not want to miss anything, though probably did. The 4K version is still processing 6 hours later :-)
      Got to take detector out after doing a few local dunk tests in water first. Detector was going crazy before after being in water for short while.

      @@SandyToesDetecting it’s amazing you can actually take any of it apart and it’s not a completely sealed unit filled with resin.

      @@ThePhilandPam i guess so, it would almost be impossible to repair anyway as there are few people with skills or knowledge to repair at component level with analogue circuits.Going to do dunk test in pool later today :-)

    really a very complete video! I, who am a fan of this detector in particular, have taught me a lot of things ... well done, it's a very good job! 👍

    Excellent video that keeps on giving! Where can I buy a kit that contains all the seals and end cap seals? You call it heat shrink here

    • @SandyToesDetecting
      @SandyToesDetecting  6 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunately there is no sea. kits available. I purchased the seals off a seal company based I think is EU, the heatcshiring sleeve think in china off ebay.

    Thank you very much for this helpful video. I'll have to replace the coil on one of my old blue excals because the outer insulation of the cable has now broken. I'll hard wire a NEL coil probably. Is there a way to tell which wire goes where on the circuit board? I guess they're not the same colours as the original wires right?

    • @SandyToesDetecting
      @SandyToesDetecting  2 роки тому +4

      Glad you found it helpful. The NEL coils come with all black wires ( ! ) but they do print 1, 2, 3 & 4 every few centimetres in white writing.
      The coding is 1 to red, 2 to black, 3 to white & 4 to yellow.

    Hi. My excal just started to make a chatty noise when I turn it on instead of the normal, steady hum it usually does. I’m not sure about what the reason could be…battery cable connection, bad battery, headphones issue… Could you please give me your opinion about it? Thanks in advance!

    • @SandyToesDetecting

      Could be a number of things. Check all the potentiometers, rotate them all to ensure clean contact internally. Inspect all the leads very carefully. Possible damage to them. Or a faulty coil.

And,,,,, if i turn my excal 2 off, its stil reacts on metal, this was happening last week. Do you know what this Good be? Now i shut the power down bij taking the battery line off. Regards jeff

      I think the only parts I used where the rubber (nitrile) seals. Those I got off ebay I think, The sizes are in the video. As for your problem, yes its the main switch, common problem is the potentiometer with on/off switch breaks. Not an easy repair as the part are difficult to get. Not sure if the service centres sell them or not.
