- Today I am joined by my friend Matt to play a full game of Lacrimosa! I will start with a brief overview of the game, and then we will teach the rules while we play.

CORRECTIONS:
20:57 - Matt forgot to pay 1 talent (in this case 1 black disc) for this selling opus action.
38:33 - Jonathan forgot to gain the 3 points printed on the opus card when he took it.
41:45 - Jonathan forgot to gain the 3 points printed on the opus card when he took it.
52:19 - Matt forgot to gain 1vp from one of his story cards on the bottom of his board.
1:04:17 - Jonathan forgot to gain 1 coin from the top effect of the card he played.
1:24:18 - Matt forgot to gain 7 points printed on the opus card when he took it.
1:33:14 - There are 2 eighth notes vs 1 sixteenth note. So Matt should have gained 3vp instead of 1vp.
And Matt is the winner :)
As a german, I can tell you that Matts pronounciation of München is very good haha.

In the periods I-V you are not "composing" by taking an opus card; you are commissioning compositions from Mozart. In the present period, you are not necessarily commissioning a part of the Lacrimosa (which is only the sixth section of the second movement) by engaging one of the composers; in general terms you are commissioning a part of the larger opus, the Requiem. (Theme hound, here, with a logician's obsession over accuracy.) 😉
Another fun one! The board looks sooooo busy to me but I love the way those actions are upgraded. I'm curious if you could win specializing in one or two actions
I guess the limits on the resource tracks make it so you should spread out to an extent

This game has echoes of Newton. The card play, card upgrading, card tucking, European map, even time period and incorporation of historical personalities.
Huh, good point. That hadn't occurred to me at all, but there are some definite similarities there.

All the missed points in this playthrough sent my anxiety through the roof lol, still another awesome play through Jon and once AGAIN my wallet will hate you as I have to buy this now :)
Sorry about that! There is quite abit going on, and when focusing on vocalizing our thoughts etc, it seemed easy in this one to miss some key points along the way. Glad you enjoyed it anyway :)

38:15 I didn't see Jon get 3 points for buying the opus. Again around 41.
52min i dont think Matt got one point off of his income during maintenance.
1:24 Matt again didbt get 7pt for buying the religous opus.
In my first game, i forgot to get points for buying the opuses as well. Something about the design is too easy to miss.
Good playthrough thank you. Ive played it twice all with 2players. Looking forward to a higher player game and solo. The lacrimosa section feels like it would be less exciting more mathy than with 3 or more. I do like the action selection mechanic, but the rest is a bit hard to get my mind around. Might be overproduced a tad making the price slightly higher, but fun so far.
Thanks for spotting those, yeah I'm quite surprised how many times we completely missed all those points! I think I was so focused on matching the opus type for the extra point, that I missed out on at least 6 points from the cards themselves. Regarding your notes, I do think Matt took his 1 vp during maintenance around 52 minutes. Thanks for pointing all this mistakes out, I've added corrections. I agree about the lacrimosa area, I am somewhat curious to try this at 4p and see that be far more contended.

At 52:28 he gains the victory point. Is there something else you are referring to?
@@JonGetsGames yup. 52:19, he gets the story points from the bottom cards, but doesn't take the VP for the second card from the left. The one you mention is from finance.
At 1:04:01, Jon forgot to get his one money from the card played.

In the Requiem score Matt should get 3 points. You get 1 each. Neutral note make the 8th note win.

Did Matt miss a 1 point bonus during his 3rd round cleanup (around 52 min in)? He took 1 point, but i think there is another point for him 🤔

48:40 i think Matt should have gotten a talent (black disc) as a rebate.
No, you only get the rebate back when you write an opus from that location, not take a memory card.

That was an awesome showcase of the game at my preferred player count. I was quite on the fence with Lacrimosa, but your play kind of convinced me I don't really need it - the only thing that I would like to have fun with is the clever card system, but the actions themselves seem soooo uninspiring. Also, the aesthetics vs usability battle seems to be won by the former and it's an aesthetic I don't really like. Also also, the travel map plus clever card system combo screams GO PLAY NEWTON to me everytime I see this game.
The vid itself was a joy to watch - the playthrough with friends series is just as awesome in teaching the game as the 'main format' and it trades longer playtime for having another person (Matt's awesome), who adds their personality, interaction with Jon and an own playstyle. Also, it sneaks in the added bonus of showing the full game instead of just enough to learn and get a good feel of how it plays, which I always loved in this channel (fully appreciating Jon's decision to change the format a couple years back).
I'm really glad you've been enjoying this playthru style :) I'm enjoying making them, there is a large added joy element for me considering I spend the filming time hanging out with a good friend.
