    Epic Adventure. I am planning the Pan American for 2025 and just discovered your channel. Although coming from Northern California, I am grateful for your tips and travel through norther mainland Mexico. Most folks will go Baja and ferry over to Mazatlan from La Paz. I am interested in your future travels.

      Thanks for joining our adventure! If you have any questions we are happy to help. We didn't take the Baja route partly because we were leaving from visiting family that was in eastern Canada but also we were apprehensive about doing the ferry with our 2 dogs.

    Thank you for the information, I have been into Mexico dozens of times so I feel comfortable crossing there, after watching your videos I feel much more comfortable crossing the other countries, I have always kept the daytime rule, and will definitely follow that advice, I also have an adventure bike,
    I was in guatamala in August for 4 weeks going to full submerged school in Antigua
    I also rented a motorcycle for the whole time,
    And I have also spent a lot of time in Costa Rica,
    😊

    On one of your other videos I asked if you shipped your car to a port, this one answered my question, how difficult was it to get through Mexico and then into Guatemala, and each country after?
    I want to take my motorcycle down 👍😊

      It was not difficult to get into/through all the countries. Expect border crossings to be slow (except México it is quicker - we made a mistake entering México because we expected to be stopped at the border and we would get our TIP for the vehicle there. There is no "stop" in Mexico, you have to decide to stop at the border office to get the TIP or you can also get it online ahead of time). But everywhere else is slow. So aim to be at the border in the morning, so you have lots of time to cross and get to some place to spend the night. Don't drive at night, we always planned to be at a campsite by about 3pm, giving us a little fudge factor if the pace we were aiming for was closed or it just took longer than expected. Have several stopping points picked out each day, some roads were very, very slow going. One day in Guatemala it took close to 5 hours to go 150km. Lots of people travel the route by motorcycle no problem, but we would suggest driving an adventure type bike vice a Harley since they handle much better on bumpy (and sometimes) gravely roads.

    Did you require physical maps on your trip ?

    • @ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures
      @ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures  2 місяці тому

      We didn't use physical maps. We have a TomTom GPS and used Google maps (downloaded for offline use) and sometimes Waze. Waze works really well in Nicaragua. Otherwise we found Google maps to be the best and most accurate (but a few times Google sent us down a bad road).

    Im in Federal Way Washington. Google is sending me to the east coast of Mexico on a route similar to yours. If i had not checked i would have assumed going down through California and entering Mexico at San Diego would have been better. I see there are toll roads. Did you also find these fees?

    • @ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures
      @ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures  Місяць тому

      Definitely take the toll roads (no matter what route you choose). It will save you a lot of driving time. plan for about $300-$400 USD for tolls to get all the way through Mexico. You can pay cash (USD only) or they take credit card. You can use the website Toll Guru to check the fees ahead of time.

  • @skipstreet
    @skipstreet 2 місяці тому

    You didnt meantion TIP in your video but you did in the comments below. Is this fee required at every crossing? Is there a site that discribes this fee and how to pay it? Can all be paid in advance? Are fees required in the local currency?

    • @ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures
      @ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures  Місяць тому

      You will need a TIP for each country and each has a different fee (paid in their local currency). You can get money changed at the border and/or there will be an ATM near by. In each of our border crossing videos we list all the fees and give you the ins and outs. Mexico is the only country that you can do ahead of time (10 days in advance, minimum).
