My local trails. Great fact about Vietnam, this was the first property ever privately purchased by a mountain biking association in the US. On a few occasions, developers have offered well over $1m to purchase the parcel. But NEMBA has rejected all offers to sell. It’s a pretty great story for all of us locals !
As one of the guys who helped raise funds and donated a chunk myself - I'm sorry we never sold it - think of the land 1 million could buy? 1, 000 to 2000 acres in Maine. Vietnam is 40 acres and relies on abutting PVT property..
when people say "hey this is my local trail" i always feel like it only happens to other people, but finally for once, I can say, "hey, these are me local trails"
The only thing stranger than seeing BKXC at Vietnam is seeing all the empty spots in the Adams St. lot. I haven't seen it that empty since February. Great video Brian!
You are only scratching the surface of what little ole Massachusetts has to offer. MA is a bit of a hidden gem. We don't have the elevation for epic flow trails, but we make up for it with feature-heavy trails. I've traveled all over, and I'll say that the trails around here prepare you for pretty much anything out there. Wait, I mean, it's terrible here. Don't bother coming! 'These are not the trails you are looking for...' :)
Never knew your backstory. I was also planning to be a pilot out of high school (naval ROTC), but it fell through and instead became....you guessed it, an accountant. Still an accountant today. Would definitely rather be a pilot. Well done, man!
Out of all the places you could have picked to ride in the Blackstone Valley, I'm excited to see it was Vietnam. Such a great place to ride and an amazing ride lead as well. Pat is a super nice guy and is always fun to ride with, even for this ole rookie. Thanks for another great video!
Very happy for your friend! Before I became an airline pilot, retired now, I was in biz world. Toys R Us in Germany and Cracker Barrel here in the states! My wife helped me go from the biz to flying! So I identify w him totally! Life is too short, gotta be happy!😎😎😎😎
Thank you for bringing awareness to the sport. We struggle locally to keep our trails. We've had a few victories, and it is actually growing now. These videos help unite us all. Great riding and nice trails btw!
Cool to see you ride my local trails! I actually started riding here when seeing dirt bikes and off-road jeeps on the trails was a pretty normal occurrence. Well, they got the boot but left behind a huge network of rideable trails so I'm grateful for what they established.
I couldn’t agree more with your thoughts on Vietnam. I try to get there once a year for a birthday ride. About an hour from where I live. It’s been fun watching the 50 state shred but be em better seeing you ride some of the same places I ride. Keep it going Brian!!!
I'm a bit further north, but this is totally representative of riding on rural Massachusetts. What the video leaves out is the first law of bicycling which is "What goes down must come up". This video only shows the descents and some level sections. It leaves out the 70% of the time you spend grinding back up in little gears. Often through steep, technical rock gardens which require simultaneously maxing your core strength as well as your technical skills. It's good to finally see a trail video from this part of the US. Very different than the desert southwest or even the PNW.
8:49 it's nice to see your legs and feet working in that shot! Pretty cool. Clipped in is awesome. Good job keeping your pedals moving. Not easy at all. Great job and another great video as always
Definitely a place you want to ride with buddies. I went for the first time a couple months ago, can't wait to go back. But then again there's no shortage of gnar here in MA.
exact thing happened to a friend of mine. Was about to start BA pilot training when 911 happened. When they restarted the training program he was too old so had to do it privately in Spain. He is now a Capt. for BA.
I am also a former local there and still ride her several times a year. You rode really well through there - it is a technical paradise and tough stuff with some butt pucker features and you nailed it! Eastern MA and southern NH have similar terrain - not big hills for the most part but non stop tech that will beat you up. I can show you some NH spots if you are headed up my way. Enjoy New England riding!
I’ve ridden there three times during my travels out there, love it. If you are looking for a similar ride and find yourself near Saratoga, NY, give a shout and we can check out Daniels Road State Forest, also known as SMBA.
Vietnam, Looks like an epic ride. The different patterns come upon you so quick, don't know if my old brain would be fast enough. I would sure as hell want to give it a try. Great video, some really epic shots, I think this was one of my favourites. Have a great week.
I enjoy seen you ride with others riders Brian. I think is what its been missing in a few of your episodes on this trip. It gives a good vibe to the ride, look at that it even rimes man hahaha. This was a good one for sure 👌
It was named Vietnam, if I recall, because the first MTB riders who were out there in the '90s thought it was like riding in a warzone due to the super technical, rocky, and jungle like riding. I grew up about 20 minutes from there and first rode it in ~03/04? Some of the old features are long gone, swamp drop, the big spider, golden gate, etc, there used to be some totally hairy old stuff there and the new stuff looks great, haven't ridden there since 2010, sounds like its time for a trip east with the bike!
Hi Brian! This trail is Triple black diamond! AWESOME!!!! And the line at 16:30 is my favorite part of this video together with the big stone-downhill momment! Oh my Goodness! I just think in my brain: What da? 😲
There was a trail sign back when it was built and ridden by dirt bikes next to the power lines that only a few remember that said "Vietnam". It's long gone but the name stuck. The sign was still there in the early 1990's when these were the most technical, narrow pure singletrack trails in central MA.
Also check out "Russel Mill" in Chelmsford MA. I grew up riding nam, but Russel Mill is my new favorite - very similar but more flow. Slightly less gnar, but Russel Mill has some great jumps drops and all around rock features.
Awesome 👍!!!! I ride this place with my ride group but last time didn’t go well for me (I got injured my self taking a jump) but I going back soon. Good ride Brian.

BINX! whattup
Most notably one of the Trump companies offered well over 1m to build a casino on that land
Sup bro. Going to Highland anytime soon?
@@b.zachhastings9602 I think next saturday

Weekday mornings...

Cool man. Get out there with Pat

U ARE SO LUCKY. I’m jealous
Well your trails are amazing mate . Very lucky 🤘
Same here!

Check out Earl’s Trails in Amherst. You can get some decent elevation on miles of swoopy flow trails.
What a perfect day to play on some bikes👌
Too bad you couldn’t have done a twofer with Pine Hills
@@chrislyons1296 it would've been cool to see pine hills too! I live minutes away from the pine hills area and that stuff is a lot of fun :)
Never knew your backstory. I was also planning to be a pilot out of high school (naval ROTC), but it fell through and instead became....you guessed it, an accountant. Still an accountant today. Would definitely rather be a pilot. Well done, man!
Chad Frutig it’s never too late!
Saw your vid a few days ago
Wow, such incredible terrain!
Are you gonna come out here to ride as well?! 😀
Come ride when you visit the east coast!
Come play with us!
Probably the best trail ride during the 50 State Shred. Techy, need to pedal and not just another park lap. Nice choice! Added to my bucket list!

S.C.O Mtb I was there yesterday 2
Hunter grillo no way, I was riding a blue giant trance
Anyone want to ride today or tm?
Brian was here back on July 16th
Glad you liked our state! Lots of good riding all over the place
Beautiful trail system. Clearly no shortage of rock rolls and challenges. Pretty cool. Nice riding by you three

Good to hear you enjoyed some of our local trails. Vietnam is legendary in these parts.
This place looks like freaking crazy FUN! Nice one Brian 👍🏻
Awesome shout out to Eagle Scouts
This has got to be the best one yet! Awesome trails! Credit to the guys who build & maintain it. Super cool.
I think that’s my favorite of the series so far. Great trails, even better guides!
Love seeing our local trails featured on your channel. Nice video!!! 🤟
After you finish all the states you should rate them 1 to 50
Nebraska probably Will be last
Yes!
Well he only rides one trail system...
@Lucky SOB lol
Great riding Brian 🤘 place looks fun and the fact that it's called Vietnam I definitely need to hit up JC Trails and ride one day.
Haha yes! It's made for you!
Come on over Tommy! Just make sure to bring some of that delicious food from your restaurant with you.
@@jctrails hahahaha hopefully one day when things settle down and I can take a real trip

I’ve been watching JC trails since last year and just found out his background on your channel. Both of you inspire me.
GoPro does no justice to how steep some of those rollers are. Glad you enjoyed our masshole chunk
One of the best video tours of Vietnam I've seen. Nicely done! Glad you had a great time!
YOU GUYS HAVE THE SAME NAME!
Brody Skelton MTB , what?!? That’s what the BK in BKXC stands for? I had no idea. It’s a good name!
Rock Roll Riding looks like a blast. Thanks for bringing this to us. Cool you were able to ride with James (JC Trails) and Pat.
Im glad I got into MTB, my stress is out, love nature and the sounds when I’m riding
Wasn't sure if you were going to do Thunder Mountain or anything out in Western, MA, but glad to see more local trails getting featured!
I remember riding Nam in the late 90s and early 2000s . Lol burned out cars and see saws . Classic eastern Massachusetts riding . 👌
Definitely a place you want to ride with buddies. I went for the first time a couple months ago, can't wait to go back. But then again there's no shortage of gnar here in MA.
One of the best trail systems you have previewed in your 50 STATE SHRED! Thanks for the video
Vietnam rules!! Glad you liked it!
Good to know that just good riding is close to RI. Can't wait to make my way there
The whole movie is laughs. You can see the joy of driving. Keep going!

Awesome to see you made it to my backyard. 😁
I'm impressed!! Looks every bit as fun and technical as what we have here in southern Utah.
Those are the best trails I’ve seen on here in a long time.
Those granite rocks look so sweet to ride
Love riding here! Def nice to have a guide the first time there too.

For real these are some of the most gorgeous trails I’ve ever seen
That was some awesome terrain. Great guides as well.
I like how he says "its like the main frame" and we all know what he means.
That place has great session potential and material! Great stuff!
The reason it’s called Vietnam is that the sound of dirt bikes are like gun firer
Great ride - just the right mix of Gnar and flow to keep things interesting - one of the best so far !!

That trail was awesome. I wish we had rocks like that here.
This terrain looks like it was MADE for MTB! Great video and hope to ride there some day (based in VA).
Love all of those rocks, fun to watch your ride.
Looking good. Those trails are so sick. Keep it up!!!

MA has dozens of similar trail systems. Pretty impressive state for MTB
that was awesome to see you here
Okay, that terrain was actually pretty cool! If that were my local trail system I could definitely see myself having a lot of fun.
Glad you got to enjoy these trails. Love riding here about every weekend!
Metal crunching sounds, that's the stuff.
Can’t wait to see where you go in CT
CASE? Rockland? Cowles?

Really stunning trail. Great riding. The only thing that's a surprise here, you didn't have a burrito. 😜
love seeing you get your stoke back!!

I've been here like 5 times and get lost in there every damn time. Spaghetti trails is being generous lmao. Good thing I can read a map!
Glad to see you having fun!
That looks like one of the funnest trails you've ever ridden ! So fun.
I live here in Massachusetts and I would have emailed you but I did not find out you were here until you left

looked like a day of fun work
Nice video. I would love to ride those trails!
Awesome 👍!!!! I ride this place with my ride group but last time didn’t go well for me (I got injured my self taking a jump) but I going back soon. Good ride Brian.
hope i can see you guys in person and your trips
Great trails, can't wait to see what he does in CT!!
The GoPro got rocked this time around
Wish we could have more trails like this in northern Ohio. West Branch is the best technical trail with rock gardens here especially on Quarry Trail!!
those trails look awesome
There are no lies in Nature 💯
my favorite so far !
The best rider ever for me 🤩
Was waiting for this.
Man, Brian must sell a crap-ton of Ripmos for Ibis. The bike looks so versatile on the huge variety of trails he rides.
Wow, great trail, what a ride!👏
Love that place!
Loving that New Mexico t-shirt you are sporting at the end sir!!! #NMTRUE
looks like a really fun zone!
Dude! rocked Vietnam
These are some of the coolest ao far love it!
