It's so fun to watch Robert having fun with the music. Don't remember this in 88, but I sure do remember I stand up, he was a ball of energy all over the stage!!
This song was originally a hit for Motown group Martha and the Vandellas in 1964 and was written by William "Mickey" Stevenson, Ivy Jo Hunter and Marvin Gaye.
Besides Robert Lamm's energetic lead singing, the other really notable item in this video was seeing Bill Champlain playing guitar instead of his usual keyboard. I remember seeing him occasionally play guitar in this era, but it is still an unusual sight.
I remember seeing Chicago in Sept. 1988 and this was in their set. They also played Lamm's I Stand Up from Chicago 19. Why can't they write songs similar to this, they have the capability. They are a little ballad heavy, they need a little more balance.

Great version! Is this performance of Dancing in the Street on any of Chicago's albums?
No, they just did it in their concerts. Along with some Beatle's tunes.
Love how Robert sings this.
So what song do they transition into at the end?
Sounds like the bridge to Feeling stronger every day
