    Both male and female gymnasts have been pushing the limits of the sport non-stop lately. 10 years ago, the maximum-awarded rating was G but athletes have been submitting more and more complex skills as the years go by, which forces the Technical Committee to expand the difficulty range.
    In this video, we'll take a look at the highest-rated floor skill in men's and women's artistic gymnastics.

      That's the first time I've heard it described as a "serious reporter" voice, but somehow it really fits 😂A new angle, I guess - glad it made you laugh!! Just FYI, the person that writes the video scripts, and the person who voices them (me!) are different people, so that weirdness is probably on me for misinterpreting how the writer meant it, or else being as weirdly stiff and formal as I ABSOLUTELY can be sometimes!! 😅

      @@Zephur0s well everything is a risk, obviously she would have to want to try it, she always overrated her double double layout and has a lot of power/control over the Biles, so I think she could do it with a smaller risk than Jade, looking at that one video and her landing

    The problem I have with the way men's and women's artistic gymnastics is trending is that it's pushing the athletes too hard to try and one-up the most complicated or difficult skill just so they can get the points, and someone is going to get seriously injured. What happened to Elena Mukhina can happen today just as easily. It's almost like the "Artistic" part has been pushed to the wayside in favor of an ever-increasing number of flips and twists. Is it impressive? Yeah. I sure as hell can't do it. Does it also scare the shit out of me? Yes, it does.

    • @hazelnutspred3348
      @hazelnutspred3348 Рік тому +18

      It's really not forcing that at all. If anything, they want medium high difficulty with perfect execution. The super hard "one up" skills arent really as enforced as you think. Plus, they have started making enforcements on the artistic side of things, more so in this new code of points

    • @mrsfrappucchinoblub6005
      @mrsfrappucchinoblub6005 Рік тому +4

      @@hazelnutspred3348 and didn't they also start reducing the rating for some of Simone's elements so people weren't encouraged to also try it and get hurt? So there are in fact enforcements in place, as you said!

    • @hazelnutspred3348
      @hazelnutspred3348 Рік тому +4

      @@mrsfrappucchinoblub6005 well no. Simone submitted the double double dismount on beam, and logically, based on the level of difficulty between the double tuck (D, 0.4) and the double tuck with a full twist (G, 0.7), it should have recieved a J (1.0) rating. Instead it was given only an H (0.8) for it being too difficult. All of the other skills simone did were already established, except for the triple double on floor, which did recieve the rating it deserved.
      It kinda makes sense that they did give it that rating just based on things that they've previously banned or devalued for the sake of the gymnasts safety. For example, the produnova vault was a somet high rating but the gymnasts that competed that skill were practically just throwing themselves into the air and hoping to land feet first. I think vault and floor are the most injury prone events, so devaluing skills across all events to make it less probable for injury just makes sense. Its not fun watching gymnasts get hurt

    • @millacabral9475
      @millacabral9475 Рік тому

      I don't think I agree, seeing the way most gymnasts who can have that crazy difficulty, on floor and vault especially, usually don't perform those skills consistently enough to win medals, so they end up going for a still high but more conservative difficulty score that can be executed incredibly well. If you look a the results of the last world championships that just ended in Liverpool, the execution scores almost always decided who was medalling or not, especially since E score wins in case of a tie break. I also know that in women's gymnastics there is a part of execution called artistry, and judges deduct pretty liberally on floor and beam if that isn't displayed enough. The effect of a lot of people pushing difficulty higher is probably a mix of better equipment and training/ recovery methods over time, coupled with the desire to get their name in the Code of Points. The FIG has been doubling down on execution mistakes and making it harder to submit a new skill, and they periodically downgrade the higher skills as well.

      @poshbo Рік тому +1

      @@hazelnutspred3348 Agreed, the Nagorny is clearly undervalued at I and is actually not worth performing since the Liukin (triple back tuck) is H; you'd instantly lose that extra 0.1 through inevitable deductions anyway while the Nagorny is much riskier. The trend in the COP is that the additional DV given to extremely difficult elements tapers out after a certain point
