- Gymnast Katelyn Ohashi rates 10 gymnastics scenes in movies and television shows for realism. Ohashi is a former UCLA gymnast, four-time junior national team member, and six-time All-American.
Ohashi discusses the accuracy of gymnastics scenes in "Stick It" (2006) starring Missy Peregrym, "Bring It On" (2000), "Old School" (2003), and "Killing Eve" S3E1 (2020). She comments on injuries and the extreme difficulty of the sport in "Final Destination 5" (2011), "Full Out" (2015), and "Make It or Break It" S2E20 (2011). Ohashi also analyzes which gymnastics movements would be relevant to self-defense in "The Amazing Spider-Man" (2012), "Charlie's Angels" (2000), and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" (1997).

Gymnast Katelyn Ohashi Rates 10 Gymnastics Stunts In Movies And TV | How Real Is It? - Фільми й анімація
I liked how respectful and nice she was when she was talking about rhythmic gymnastics even though it’s not her sport
Sport ?
@@bryanjurad0 yes? Like ballet I think rhythmic gymnastics is absolutely a sport.
I mean, she has no reason to be disrespectful. She could have thought it was way easier, but I think if you understand what it takes to do these things and you watch a few rhythmic routines you can see that it's a different skill set and very challenging as well.
@@chuuu4610 I'd think rhythmic is even more of a sport than ballet (though ballet and dance in general are absolutely physically demanding) because they have a lot of competitions and skills they need to train and develop over time, rhythmic gymnasts train as much as artistic gymnasts that go to the Olympics.
@@bryanjurad0 yes
“Props to cheerleaders because they do a lot of stuff and I don’t know how they did it”
Sounds to me like content idea for her UA-cam channel.
I agree. George Bush was a cheerleader in college
@@Otisbear480
GW would look good in a skirt. No lie.
@@RebornLegacy 🤤 🥵
@@Otisbear480 I mean,he cheerlead Americans into a war crime,so not surprising
it's true though...cheerleaders on the sidelines do some hard tumbling passes that as a former gymnast absolutely blow my mind...the gymnastics floor has springs and boards under it so that's where the give comes from but on a track or just grass it's like damn that's yea that's impressive
I can’t help but grin the whole time. Such a adorable personality she has.
You did die last year.
Yeh, I’m low key in love
@@EarthIsFlat456 the bold roast! Oh man. I literally went "Ooooh!" And started to lol. You win
You would die? How? How do the logistics of that function?
And a bit crazy I think :D
The good kind of crazy :)
Katelyn will say something real dark like "that's when I fractured my sternum" then do an adorable laugh, and honestly I felt that
😂
I feel it. In sports you often don't realise you have broken something until quite later
Sarcastic laugh
@@linhhoang3636 hmm, sometimes they whine even before they hurt their muscle.
*cracks up laughing* "but yeah I totally know people that died just like this"
I love the laugh at the horrific scorpion fall😄
I actually cringed at that lol.
I laughed because I knew it was coming, but there was a bit of 👀 at that reaction lol.
It looks really goofy
It looks so fake
i was shocked too. then i decided she has every right to laugh having broken her own back in gymnastics
"I've kicked my coach"
Totally expected to hear her say, "I've kicked a dinosaur."
An old coach would probably be called a dinosaur.
I speak from experience-if you land a strike with your knee or elbow while fighting, you could EASILY take them out.
I love how all these "expert explains" videos are like people in their 50s and 60s. Grizzled, decades of experience. But gymnastics is such a grind that you can get a 24 year-old to explain all that stuff to the same level.
Because gymnists start early. Like if they can scratch all of their backs, you know they can probably do a handstand. You don't get to national level if you pick up gymnastics as a hobby in your teens. Idk anyone who has done it, but if they did, it would be a rare feat. So a 24 year old gymnist does in fact have at least a decade under their belt in experience....that is in addition to the several years it took for them to get to even competition worthy skill and strength and flexibility.
Possibly even two
@@tspawn35 yes, its cuz its a brutal business.
these girls go through alot of abuse to become the best.
kind of like the K pop or sports / Esports business model
get them young, train them like crazy, and if they dont become the top 10% earners, then kick them to the curb.
@@MilkT0ast I don't think its that deep. They chose to do this because they love it.
@@realdavidjones1623 for extra curricular yes, for the most part they do enjoy it.
I’m talking about the pros.
For example: the Olympics. Some of these girls train from childhood to try to compete. And most don’t make it. And it’s even worse for Russian ballet and gymnastics
*girl dies from a bad landing in FD5*
Katelyn: *laughs*
Damn this girl ain’t scared
It's literally funny tho
Katelyn: "...And then I realised I had broken my sternum. (Adorable giggle.)"
Gymnasts go hard. I have zero doubt that one could take on a dinosaur. They've all faced worse.
Seeing how hard and brutal their sport is on their bodies (from what I know) I don't doubt that they aren't scared
@@badreddinekasmi8919 I do respect them. Till now I still fear an ordinary backflip 😆😆
I think she laughed because it's so unrealistic that the gymmast didn't just stop the giants and get off the apparatus
Peter Parker as a cheerleader is the alternate universe story the world needs.
Yea-nah
We need that What if comic
Correction: Peter Parker as a cheerleader is the alternate universe story *Twitter* needs.
Petra Parker....head cheerleader by day, friendly neighborhood Spider Woman...after practice. Lol..OK, sure! Why not?
@@zshakur male cheerleaders are some of the most impressive athletes out there. With his strength and acrobatics Peter Parker would be an amazing cheerleader and it would be interesting seeing him juggle that with superhero duties plus something different from his usual nerdy outsider persona. Look up male cheerleader vids here and you'll be astonished. The rhino (kollin Cockrell not the Spiderman villian lol) is an amazing athlete.
Katelyn laughing at that neck snap somehow killed me and made her so relateable to me... just because it's horrible doesn't mean it's not also silly 😶
her random laughs are hilarious
To be fair, the Final Destination franchise has always been a comedy series imo...
She’s so gorgeous and talented. And now i learn she has a cool personality, a sweet voice and adorable laugh.
Ikr💖✨
Distractingly so.
there's just something so beautiful about her smile and laugh that you cant stop looking at her. also love the way her eyes brighten when she talks about gymnastics!
Considering Ohashi was "done and over" the sport prior to her time on the UCLA team, it's a credit to that team's (former) coach Miss Val that Katelyn smiles when she talks about gymnastics at all.
@@KainsAddiction what?
@@KainsAddiction bitter
She's like a Powerpuff girl, sugar, spice, and everything nice. That woman is tough as nails and still seems super playful and bubbly at the same time
Chemical X optional.
@@KireaPhillips_superj0ka No chemical X is definitely involved that’s what makes it so much fun!!!
Even got the flight and super strength. Better believe a gymnast can bench a whole other person any day lol
She's adorable
She even laughs like Bubbles
15:08 I remember that day. The equipment malfunctioned when the cap on the edge of the beam slipped off when she kicked for the dismount. It was not a pretty sight at all. But the comeback was amazing. I never learned about the broken sternum. Amazing athlete. Love her so much. She is such a source of inspiration for both physical and mental strength. 💪🏾❤😁
" I fractured my sternum" and smiles about it. She's hardcore! I love it! 👍💪
She is one of my favorite gymnasts. Everything she has been through, and how she found her place at UCLA. I just really admire her. And I think she's just beyond beautiful in every way, physically and what I perceive of her mentally as well, definitely. ♡
Such a charming laughter. Also Ohashi is very insightful.
Katelyn is an absolute gem given to the world. Her floor routine is and always will be the most memorable I have ever seen. Male or female. The absolute embodiment of style, fun and mind blowing skill. I regularly re watch it
Love her floor routine, it was so fun
She was a delight in Uni elite, but most of all, she was THE ONLY ONE in American Championship to ever beat Simone Biles (at her a early career)
She could've been even bigger, considering elite gymnastics, but unfortunately, her coach was really hard on her, then she had several injuries and had to retire
Yes, that flor routine is just phenomenal and she makes it look so effortless!
If there is a live-action Squirrel Girl in a Marvel show or movie, she DEFINITELY needs to be played by Katelyn!
OH yeah . What good casting
Someone send this vid to Feige....
I am in love with this woman. I don't even watch gymnastics but whenever I see her name I instantly click, so pretty and she seems to have such a positive emotional effect on everyone around her.
Same here. She is SUCH a doll...not to mention, ridiculously talented and just so down to earth. I really adore this young lady. 😊

Now I’m not so sure that aliens ranking alien scenes will be a joke anymore.

bro the way she laughed when that girl straight up broke her back
Gymnast breaks her back
"I think it's goofy"
bruh, I cringed when they paused it there 5:39
With her maniacal laugh this is more intense than the MMA, karate or sword fighting experts. Props to gymnastics.
Cheems
I remember watching her do that routine and fracture her sternum. It scared the crap out of me. And I was like she’s going again?!?!?!? Mad props for that. I still remember it years later.
Same here 😂
"..a lot of people call that "scorpions"..."
Not only is there a nickname, she drops it super casual.
I am all "Nope."
She has the cutest laugh ever. Great personality too and it shines through.
My wife did ballet and also had Russian instructors. The way she summarized it was "if they aren't being mean, they've decided you aren't worth their time".
So adorable yet she is also so badass having survived everything that she has been through. Love her positivity and sweet personality.
her laughing at that horrific death scene was the highlight of this video.
She has so much humility, a beautiful demeanor while still laughing off a fractured sternum. She's such an inspiration.
I was grinning the whole video and I don't even notice. She's irradiates happiness
And I’m faded this is hilarious
Katelyn Ohashi is SOOO freaking cute. I love her little giggles. Her new hairstyle is pretty too.
Katelyn's laugh is so cute! (casually giggles about snapping a bone in competition... o_O)
Right?
Katelyn is such a ball of light and that laugh is the cutest thing I’ve ever heard.
I just love you, Katelyn. You bring some flavor to gymnastics that is captivating and truthful. I'm so glad you stuck with UCLA and Miss Val. On or off the mats you are a beautiful person. I don't know how many times I've watched your PERFECT 10 floor routine. I watched your challenge with the military and you killed it!!
She has such a beautiful bubbly personality and her laugh is so contagious. Had me smiling throughout the whole video
“cheerleaders have more bent knees in their back handsprings” damn ok calling us out 😭
I’m glad gymnastics is getting more exposure. I’ve been doing gymnastics and tricking for years now. Beautiful sport
OMG I've seen Katelyn's routine a million times at UCLA. Shes amazing!
She was on my channel first, Insider.
Wow someone’s pissed
You don’t own her

her laugh is so contagious that i almost laughed at the scorpion. that character did not make it to the end of the movie???
It was from Final Destination. The name is a pretty clear spoiler.
She has such a lovely energy that just makes the audience want to smile! I had never heard of her the first time I watched this video, and then randomly got recommended another facebook video about her again 2 weeks later! Now knowing having heard about her story I'm so keen to see more of her on youtube!
She's exactly right. It is very dangerous and fear was a big hold back for me. I had the strength but frankly was too chicken about getting hurt. Having the potential is one thing. Having the courage is another.
This comment was overlooked
10/10 for Katelyns laugh and charm .
She makes me laugh especially at the end when she said she broke her sternum like it's a normal thing for them😂
How do you not include Kimberly from Power Rangers? She is the reason I wanted to be a gymnast and was pretty much the answer to the question about using gymnastics in a fight. Other than that I enjoyed this video.
ive never been so intrigued and invested in someone ever! this girl is gold!
Katelyn you are amazing and SEER, at 6:40 you literally explain why it is so dangerous sometimes, all of the times. KNowing what happened at the olympics and everyone having an opinion of what they have no clue of is ridiculous. Thank you and I hope that they watch this video.
All the best to you!!!
"...fractured my sternum." *adorable laugh*
Absolutely terrifying.
she's such a ball of positive energy love her so much
This was actually really interesting, she's so knowledgeable, I'd love to hear her commentary on real life gymnastics too.
Her giggle is infectious.
She's amazing. Ohashi!
I love her so fkn much! Finally getting the recognition she deserves 💕 you go girl!!
If the “Wolf turn” is considered a difficult and graceful move, why do more gymnasts not go for the breakdance headspin on the beam? Wouldn’t an inverted spin on the head be considered even more difficult and, in my opinion, it looks really impressive and beautiful, almost like ballet.
Is the head-spin just against the rules? Or do gymnasts avoid it just because it’s unconventional? Honestly just curious haha.
I imagine that because it falls outside established moves, that not many gymnasts would be able to do it, let alone to the level where they could stick it on a beam. Idk how it would score either, but it would be an incredible thing to see.
Probably would me a limited move and injuries to that would be fatal, so probably not
The gymnastics federation is sooooo outdated tbh, it is a danger and why there can be such a burnout. Its not just perfection, its that national champions demand Olympic level p e r f e c t i o n. Hair bands falling out is not ok lol
And they score connection/flow, so idk how to make that flow haha
I love how she laughs about fracturing her sternum. You know you truly love a sport if injuries don’t fase you and you just get mad because you had a bad result because of the injury.
That floor routine she did..... wow!
No wonder that routine made her so famous. It was PERFECT!
SHES SO ADORABLE I JUST WANT TO HUG HER 😭 why are people hating on her, she's such a sunshine ❤️
Her smile is so infectious! Loved this video, super informative and fun! 😁❤️
Shes awesome. Never saw a performance that was nearly as perfect as hers. Its a true pleasure to watch her commenting here
Shes wonderfully harsh. She seems to either give them a 9-10 or a 0q
The physical discipline of gymnasts... that's nothing to underestimate. Lovely and really worthy of respect.
Loved her in the Toyota Yaris advert. It also showed a little clip of her doing a floor routine which I have seen in full and it is amazing 🤩
In cheer we’re basically only ever allowed two steps so that all of our passes’ timing is uniform. Generally we either power hurdle or step step hurdle regardless of wether we’re on hard wood or spring floor unfortunately.
I love how she laughs at the absurdity and disasters of what she saw
She has the most genuine and sweet laughter, loved it :)
I absolutely adore Katelyn Ohashi! Her routines never fail to make me happy!
I loved watching her bubbly personality. I heard on goalcast she had to fight through a lot to get to this point mentally. More power to her
I really like her genuine personality!!
My favorite gymnast of all time. Great commentary.
She has such awesome energy and it was so cool to hear her explaining everything!
But to be fair to Stick It, the point of the beam routine in that scene is that she isn't doing the required skills as a protest
Her smile is infectious ( ᵕᴗᵕ )" She cracked her sternum and laughed about it. What a legend.
She's such a nice person! Great example in the sport
She is soo genuine it's amazing 👍
omg I love this style of video and love gymnastics, great video!
Ayo rlly liked listening to her thoughts it’s rlly like enlightening :>>>
would love to see her reaction to the make it or break it worlds beam routine. That beam was like 12" wide
How to rebound and regroup after a difficult early life under the very bright glare of harsh public scrutiny.
Class and spunk!!
All the best to all the gymnasts and other athletes and artists!! Thsnk you for showing what the human body is capable of!!
Ohashis has an amazing personality and infectious smile! Was a good video just because of her, look forward to seeing her shine in the future!
Her laugh is so cute 😂
Her laugh at that scene. Cute and savage. Hilarious
I loooved make it or break it around 13. The drama, the struggles, the gymnastics. And then of course, being a kid, I thought the actresses in the show were actually doing all of the routines and I was so impressed that they could both act AND do gymnastics, like wow these girls really have to be pros to do that!
Such charisma! Could listen to her for hours.
haha, cool insights! I like how she takes things in historical context too
I'm surprised by the similarities between gymnastics and martial arts (particularly traditional ones). There's more similarities here than differences! The russian coaches remind me so much of a few of my instructors, particularly a grand master I trained under for a while. He was an ex-korean marine instructor. Tough and brutal, but that training style actually suited me well
How about gymnastics and breakdancing.I always wonder why more gymnasts didn’t become b boys or b girls as they’d have been absolutely devastating. That body control you see, especially the pommell horse moves, would have been ideal for going into windmills, head spins, turtles and handspins, finishing with backspins, into freezes.
Her giggles are so amazing!
She has a awesome personality, I smiled the whole time with her laughs!
such a solid performance of her (instead of a link just title Katelyn Ohashi - 10.0 Floor (1-12-19) by UCLA Athletics) like train on rails, no gaps, smooth, powerful, absolute rule like shooting bulls eye in cold blood and all that by one with somewhat careless easy personality - amusing.
sad that her channel has basically no content, I guess she could do interesting vlogs and commentary on things in those.
Kaitlyn is just cool. I'm happy she is getting noticed, there couldn't be a nicer more talented person to be a representing her sport.
Such a wonderful energy and adorable personality! Great video with a superb expert!
Really cool ! Thank y'all for putting this together ! Esp Katelyn with her lovely aura.

Russian coaches are the same across the board, too. Gymnastics, dance, circus, ice skating, opera....everything.
Katelyn, you will always & 4 ever be my favorite gymnast...I don't care about Olympic gold or prizes in general, You're my favorite because you been such a inspiration force to me, thinking that if Katelyn can fight through her own demons & struggle in life so even I should do in real life without even trying be a athlete but to be stronger in mind & soul just like you...You're a true Champion & a hero for many people that can't do what you achieved in your career but it gives them the mental strength & inspiration to do their own thing...I'm so proud of you & love you..
Shes epic her performances are awesome and are always fun to watch.
