1:55 This is not a bug, its because the scanrate of this radar is so slow and it sometimes takes up to 3 scans to get a good loftlock, that it could take 24 seconds to get a good softlock.
This is also because seek uses the radar mode where a target is auto-selected; you can see it’s not a valid lock by glancing at the radar scope and seeing its velocity, but if you don’t have the manual radar control on then you might get stuck looking at bad targets.

War thunder definitely does have russian bias though, they got caught changing modifiers for russian tanks to bounce shots more a few years ago. There is also the year and a half that the r-27 was the most dominating missile in the game, yet sparrows just magically stopped tracking or would go on a mission of their own and ignore hard locks, and how it conveniently wasn't fixed until Fox-3's were introduced...Or the time they really tried to introduce the R-73, and keep NATO with the AIM-9L while having HMD patches before any other nation at top tier. @@obayalharbi82 Nah its not underperforming, its fitting with EM diagram pretty well. The real problem comes from poor instructor. You may check in simulator control, which is not rolling itself anymore. This should be fixed.
Hey Seek, Good content. That TWS bug you described is a game bug and I had it happen in every TWS jet. Also, consider bringing 2x ET's on no heavy cloud maps, it will surprise people, who expect R-77, or people who fly low and don't pay attention, where the 77 would eat a dirt due to multipathing.
I enjoy the Su-27SM even if its objectively inferior to the F-16C/F-15C meta. I always carry two ET's aswell along with six R-77's as ever since Chaff and Flares can be deployed seperately, the vast majority of people will only pop chaff if they see an incoming missile at range and end up getting slammed by the ET, long range stealth snipes with it are extremely fun. I just wish they could fix the Flight Model already, its already inferior in BVR so it should at least be effective in WVR, but with gaijin butchering the energy retention and keeping its Oswald Efficency at half of what it is irl you can only get one turn before youre going 400kph.
Well the plane does have huge wings. And in a turn would quickly slow you down. Also the f16 and f15 in game are missing thrust. F16 less so but h to r f15 is missing 12000 lbs of after burning thrust. So unless they fix that the don’t think they will fix your flight model

He actually reported it to the forums but was banned for it. Even this the documents were declassified. The numbers that are correct in game are installed thrust. The thrust of just the engines themselves not the afterburners
Been a lot more fun playing this since the last update with the HMD range buff as well as the twin R-77 racks. Makes it more viable to take 2 ETs or ERs while still having at least 6 of the ARH's. Part of the fun with this plane is the missile options it gets.
2:00 The main problem with that soviet radar is the abysmal scan rate. It sweeps far too slowly to keep a good track on anything that’s actually maneuvering, and you have zero sweep angle options to narrow it down and increase the frequency of the sweep over a given area, like the 20 degree narrow scan typical of US radars. It’s just a bad radar set.
5:41 it would be nice if locking onto missiles would stop being a thing. It's really annoying trying to lock onto an enemy, but the radar keeps picking up the 20 missiles already in the air
Locking missiles should absolutely be a thing. Ive shot down missiles going after teammates, used rockets as flairs, and saved myself many times in GRB. Learn to be offensive against missiles.
I hate the double standards of the snail, despite being a US main, I can't stand how Gaijin treats Russian air, and despite the years of R-27ER torture, they don't deserve this. And on the flip side, when it comes to US ground, they won't do shit despite having multiple sources. For example, earlier this year there was a massive debate on the Abram's DU hull, and Gaijin essentially said they won't add it cause only a handful of Abrams had them. That's understandable. But then, there's the T-80B with thermals that only a single prototype was fitted with. Wtf?
as somebody who plays wt for the dogfights, the J-10A's flight model in sim controls is so absurd as to be capable of all the high-AoA the flanker can, but with the nimbleness of a Mirage 2K. I used to like making flankers work, but i literally have no reason to play them now that the J-10 is here, its legit all the good things of the flanker without any of the bad. rlly hoping someday they change this, flankers in this game got done dirty as hell. maybe the canard/thrust vector flankers will be different
Su-27 is my childhood favorite aircraft, I remember while I looked at my dad's books collection about war aircrafts, I just feel In love with the Sukhoi. When I returned to War Thunder in the beginning of 2024 and I saw it, I started to grind USSR insanely just to get frustrated when I got it, he is indeed beautiful, but the performance in game against other aircrafts its kinda disappointing. Now I ended the French TT and I'm having so much fun with the F-16AM, Mirage 4000 and Mirage 2000 5F, fly performance and radar makes all difference, more than carry 12 missiles.
@@riflescientist1744 you said merge, before the merge both air craft would be dead because of radar missiles if they don’t notch or multipathing the missiles. In sim, I’m found it super easy to kill mirages because you can hug the deck until the merge and then rate fight till they fall outta the sky
1:55 I recommend changing your setting so you don’t automatically soft lock everything that pops up on tws for half a second. If you set up the mode where you can control the sector of your scope you are utilizing, you can easily tell which target to lock through chaff based on the target velocity.
2:00 you're definitely describing locking onto chaff. I've had that happen with the f15 and f16 so unless the game is bugged, it's the intended behavior.
It happens a lot more on the Soviet radars for me. Usually the NATO ones will bounce back and let you switch targets. The Russian ones get stuck permanently because they stop scanning everything else and I have to reset the radar
In sim, when you lock a target with the radar or IRST, the HUD sometimes just breaks (in vr), meaning you have to unlock and relock every few seconds inorder to use the HUD. This is only a problem with the su27 and MiG-29, no other plane has this issue.
My gripe for the su27 are the 27et. They are situational, but they compliment ARH missiles really well. They are great at taking side/rear aspect mid-rage shots, which almost always end up in a kill. And with ETs it still has 6 r77s, which is enough for most battles. So if i feel like participating in a conventional fox3 slinging, i take f15c no doubt, but if i feel tricky, su27 is a way to go
Manual radar controls really helps with that radar for me. Getting stuck on something in tws was just so annoying, but its not a problem at all with manual!
The gripen is my favourite soely due to its flight performance, its the only plane where I can stick to the ground a few meters off the ground without all of a sudden turning into a brick or not being able to roll like in the su27 or f15 (less in the f15), I've been multipathing every missile with no issues a lot harder in the others like I absolutely despise the feel in the su27, its just so unwieldy like the wobble you mentioned probably due to instructer but its also a big plane, such a turn off, ill just use my 6 missiles on the gripen with infinite counter measures, the plane I get the most gun dogfights in because of it
and yes , i had been getting that radar issue too, for a while now. I alternate between TWS HDN and TWS to kind of cope with it, but its still a nightmare. + the radar seach angle, at least the vertical one, is extremely short. it only searches a tiny space infront of you. You have to tilt your nose up and down to search the whole sky most of the time. If someone's slightly below you, you wont pick them.
I left a comment on your su27 vid and would like to mention on thing here as well :) you are a really good player but take a look at the radar performance at 3:25 - i am going to explain it from how i understand it. Su27 tws does not have tws "lock". Yes you can shoot while keeping focus on the target, but that actually requires you to manually keeping radar on the target, either by pointing nose, turning radar scan while notching, or additionally use manual radar elevation controls (i tried them, its ass 😂). If you do still get a lot of kills when launching r77 at range where it does not instantly go pitbull, please do let me know, maybe the radar on the jet and the missile is better than what i think it is?
If it helps, you dont need to get that close to use your r77s. They have a really strong booster meaning they don't noticeably fall behind an amraam for the first 10-15 seconds of flight. Test it in game, you'll be surprised!
Do you know the value in the missiles code that determines how much speed it bleeds when it turns? Because i quadruple checked and couldn't find any any value with a name that even remotely resembles that. As far as I could find, speed bleed in turns is a constant for all the missiles.
It’s definitely not the same for all missiles, but I don’t think there’s a numerical value in the files that determines it. I think it’s just ongoing math depending on fin AOA and surface area and G etc
@@SeekerHead I'm making a video that goes microscope in depth on the fox3s. If you know where I could find what determines speed bleed in the code. It would help a lot. Also I wouldn't be so sure its real just because everyone else says so. A major theme in my script is pointing out things that aren't true, but everyone else just assumes is because everyone else says so.
I did some asking around for you: Area, drag coefficient, fin area, and fin deflection all play into how much drag the missile gets while maneuvering. There might be even more categories than that though
Based on the data, FM should be better by somewhere around 10%, which wouldn't make Su-27 a terror of the sky, but that's the line that separates unpleasant FM from comfortable FM. This is my biggest complaint - Su-27 is unenjoyable to fly.
@@Scorchluck Gaijin recently admitted on the forum that the su27s performance is 15% lower than it should be, not 10%, because they used the turn performance table without afterburner to create the in-game flight model. This 15%, in the current state of the flight model, makes a significant difference, like night and day. It's worth noting that the Gripen, for example, when it first came to the game and as it is today, lost about 7-8% of its turn performance, which changed it from "invincible" to "counterable"
Ngl I actually get a lot of kills with the R-27ET. People don't hear it coming, or try notching/chaffing what they think is another medium range Radar missile
for some reasons i play better with Su-27SM than F15C. I play Su27 more like a defensive plane that is wait for enemy to show up rather than going after them due to the trash range on the R77. Or i just wait for a furball to happen and come from the top as a third party machine.
if only Gaijin had accurate flight models then the Flanker would be on par with the F-15C, in my testing almost all other aircraft are over performing by like 1.5x and the Flanker is gimped, in sim with a flight stick the Flanker gets no where close to 18.5deg/s at 800kph its just dumps all its speed and had like %300 more drag than it should, the MiG-29 is the most accurate flight model in game for top tier jets and even its better than the SU-27 is most cases
This plane is misunderstood and needs to flown in one way… people need to learn how to go cold and notch with it and they will start getting kills. Fly low and start launching R77’s when the enemy hits 15km
@@102ndsmirnov7 I dont disagree with that last part, dogfighting at fast speeds is a disadvantage. Using its ability to bleed speed quickly can actually be a positive... I smoke people with the SU-27SM.. I run 8 R-77's and I use them in away that keeps the adversary defensive for long periods of time. The disadvantage I have is getting to a 20km distance from the target. I fly low and fast gets me there everytime. Lot to explain
@@jsean13 I use the Su-27 pretty effectively but I just feel like the airframe isn't particularly fun to fly. If it bled less speed it would feel much better.
You are locking onto chaff and its artifacts. Gaijin released a "bug fix" (really just a feature adition) where all top tier jets' radars would no longer lock onto chaff..... EXCEPT su27s, mig29s (yak141 aswell cuz its the same radar), and chinese planes. I have only one wish, and that is either fix the seeker of R73 so that it actually has an irccm, or fix the flight model so that it doesn't lose so much speed and gain nothing unless flying in a straight like for 30 seconds.
Russian Jets take skills to play, they're not like the F-16 or F-15 which are alot easier to play. Lock on enemies, fire AIM-120 and gets that easy BVR kill. The Russian fighter jets are more capable of close to mid range fighting with the amazing maneuverability and awesome 50g R77s. When I'm playing Su-27SM or Mig-29SMT I usually climb as high as possible while staying alive, then I'll flank the enemies from above. Usually gets me 1-2 kills depends on my luck. My Su-27SM KDR is above 1.3 and I think Su-27SM is definitely an aweosme fighter jet while somewhat underperforming with the model
Should I buy and invest in su-27 or go straight to SM? I spaded mig-29SMT, but mig -29 was such a bad plane, I wish somebody told me back then to skip it
At first I sucked with the Flanker but I got used to style how its played, you stay low, your R77 Adders ARE NOT long range, their close-medium range. Remain fast and use your HMS and fire off Adders at 20-25 Kms max. Don't BvR against AMRAAMS
Out of all the top tiers I hate flying this one the most and I don’t even have the sm variant I still get a kill or 3 in it though just gotta fly boring honestly I love the Japanese f-15 I feel like the aam-4 is a little better then the amraam but it’s only on those 24+ km launches seems to hold energy better
Meanwhile the J11A has all these problems but with more weight for no reason, 1 less data link channel? for a total of 1, and less missiles since Gaijligoob forgot it exists. Yea it does get a MAW but it's so hyper sensitive it'll dump all your countermeasures for no reason and all at the wrong times. It's literally a negative...
Pisses me off that gaijin cant make decent fm for the aircraft or missiles....Just look at deltas or how dumb is the range with the MICA and R77s....the mentality of "pulls more hence less range" is a cancer on gaijins mind....
That Grid fin on R-77 is such a failure not even close to double edged sword Good idea and concept as theory but truth is harsh just like communism lol
Realistically the R77 would do better if gaijin modelled drag correctly, at supersonic speeds the grid fin has very low drag it's just not modelled ingame
What they did to Russian top tier flight models should be a crime. Where tf is the Russian bias crowd now? It looks like anti Russian bias actually. Both irl and in DCS these planes perform waaaay better. Hold a lot more energy and pull more.

Besides, US strength isn't in ground AA systems(especially seeing how nasams and patriots struggle a lot rn in Ukraine), but in jets with missiles for interception. War thunder definitely does have russian bias though, they got caught changing modifiers for russian tanks to bounce shots more a few years ago. Hey Seek,
Good content.
Not a bug, it’s how the radar is coded sadly.
Not a bug

I have the MiG-29 SMT and just started grinding the Su-27SM and the ONLY kills I get are from the 27ET's.
Been a lot more fun playing this since the last update with the HMD range buff as well as the twin R-77 racks. Makes it more viable to take 2 ETs or ERs while still having at least 6 of the ARH's. Part of the fun with this plane is the missile options it gets.
Russian bias commenters been real quiet since this dropped.
Lets not forget gaijin keeping the Su27S 13.3 in SIM without any ARHs but 13.0 the AV8B+ with 4 AIM120s and 2 9Ms
5:20 "we are well into the thick of it"
2:00 The main problem with that soviet radar is the abysmal scan rate.
Someone will release classified documents if they remove that
Locking missiles should absolutely be a thing. Ive shot down missiles going after teammates, used rockets as flairs, and saved myself many times in GRB. Learn to be offensive against missiles.
Negative. Your opinion is wrong. Locking onto a missle allows you to shoot it down.
Most of these aircraft don't have radars capable of picking up and locking onto these missiles. They should remove it.

Wtf?
as somebody who plays wt for the dogfights, the J-10A's flight model in sim controls is so absurd as to be capable of all the high-AoA the flanker can, but with the nimbleness of a Mirage 2K. hats off for being able to endure that much top tier gameplay, I hate fiddling with the shit radars and the enormous maps
@@SeekerHeadhad something similar occur in the F-16C.
Had to 'reboot' the radar
In sim, when you lock a target with the radar or IRST, the HUD sometimes just breaks (in vr), meaning you have to unlock and relock every few seconds inorder to use the HUD. This is only a problem with the su27 and MiG-29, no other plane has this issue.
Theres also in TWS it doesnt keep elevation if the targets changes altitude the antes simple doesnt follows ,only on horizontal angles is working
My gripe for the su27 are the 27et. They are situational, but they compliment ARH missiles really well. They are great at taking side/rear aspect mid-rage shots, which almost always end up in a kill. And with ETs it still has 6 r77s, which is enough for most battles.
So if i feel like participating in a conventional fox3 slinging, i take f15c no doubt, but if i feel tricky, su27 is a way to go
They should add signal strength properly, as the little dotted lines are not that easy to understand, they should model it like the spo 15
Manual radar controls really helps with that radar for me. Getting stuck on something in tws was just so annoying, but its not a problem at all with manual!
The gripen is my favourite soely due to its flight performance, its the only plane where I can stick to the ground a few meters off the ground without all of a sudden turning into a brick or not being able to roll like in the su27 or f15 (less in the f15), I've been multipathing every missile with no issues a lot harder in the others
like I absolutely despise the feel in the su27, its just so unwieldy like the wobble you mentioned probably due to instructer but its also a big plane, such a turn off, ill just use my 6 missiles on the gripen with infinite counter measures, the plane I get the most gun dogfights in because of it
and yes , i had been getting that radar issue too, for a while now.
Turn off radar constant elevation and bind keys for radar elevation
2:30 I’ve had those same issues with American jets as well.
Just to be sure HMD means 'Helmet Mounted Display' right?
Yes
No.
Yes
You are right. If spoken correctly, Soviet/Russian planes have Helmet Mounted Cueing System -hmcs, but it's a bitch to pronounce

This 15%, in the current state of the flight model, makes a significant difference, like night and day. It's worth noting that the Gripen, for example, when it first came to the game and as it is today, lost about 7-8% of its turn performance, which changed it from "invincible" to "counterable"

There are things that need to be balanced and a bad FM and sketchy radar are definitely good factors, have we forgotten already how Mig29s and R27ET and ERs were the meta for 3 years? Solely reining supreme over everything? Russia have quite broken top tier ground vehicles, T90M, BVM, Pantsir etc. Nothing else can compete because how over performing they are. If you add SU25SM3 and it’s 20-30Km KH38Ts and how they are almost immune to other SPAAs meaning no one other than USSR can intercept them it goes to show how unbalanced things can be if you mix everything in a single match.
Well the pantsir isn't overperforming.
It's just that nato failed to create a comparable system.
Same could perhaps be said about their MBTs
@@VIT-ey8wo NATO Relies on air superiority which isn't something that can be replicated on war thunder unless they add world war mode... USA does have 1st 2nd and 3rd biggest air force in the world.
I do believe pantsir is overperforming no to add that there was no need to add such an advanced system (2012) while everyone else is still in 1980s era stuff. Gaijing left balance behind once 2S6 was left at 10.7 but ADATS kept getting moved up to now somehow be a competitor to it. Yet a whole 1.0 BR above.
I don't think there are MBTs unbalanced, They are just 100% badly implemented, the community gives feedback and they wipe their a$$ with it. Hopefully there can soon be another review bomb in favor of realistic balance.
@@edwinortiz4421 the pantsir is performing according to the now old variant of the missile(57E6), which is approx. 20km.
So nothing wrong their.
Rather the F16 is flying like a UFO rn with its lack of a G-limit and wonky AoA.
Air superiority could be acheived in ground RB. It's just that US mains suffer from a serious skill issue, meaning that relatively few get to use aircraft.
Not to mention the presence of tank only players(mainly clickbaits with only one spawn).
Besides, US strength isn't in ground AA systems(especially seeing how nasams and patriots struggle a lot rn in Ukraine), but in jets with missiles for interception.
Again, the issue is rather in the amount of braindead US mains, struggling to even amount enough points for a jet, let alone knowing how to use it.
Btw, didn't US MBTs get handheld again with the artificial 5 sec reload buff?
@@VIT-ey8wo F16 is fine. The only semi competent frame atm. And yes US MBTs "handheld" artificial buff came into effect because statistics show how bad the win rate is. When you compare t80S, Leos to abrams, they are superior in protection. The front aspect of the abrams is like 70% penetrable by anything with 400mm+ penning darts. Takes .8 of a sec to aim. Turn that around and you can't do the same to any other vehicle except arietes, Leclerc's and JP MBTs. Neck weak spot is a little bit too much. Maybe in real life the tank doesn't use 30 year old rounds that aren't in production anymore. Or maybe gaijing is trying to keep their player base semi-happy by trying to compensate for their horrible design implementation by giving out bullshit buffs cuz politics are getting in the way of a "game"
@@edwinortiz4421 the problem of the abrams front aspect is pretty much a design issue. Cant really fix that.
Still, with the introduction of damage models to reload mechanism and a overall reload buff for abramses without so.e sort of fatigue mechanic is pretty much hand holding. Again, not to mention the weird survivability of these things, since they magically dont generate spall.
Well, I guess right now with the state of US jets is just gaijin milking new premiums.
Before fox 3 it was USSR dominating air battles.
Then they nerfed the mig 29 FM(su 27 was underperforming even prior)
Overbuffed the F-16 performance and simultaneously nerfed MICA-EM and R-77(wonky FM, making these missiles bleed speed at an insane rate) as well as overbuffing the aim-120a so much, that even the AAM-4 seems to pale in comparison.
Woudn't be surprised if they actually fix overperforming US jets amd missiles when the F-4S and F-20A sales go low.
