omg thank you so much!!! this video has completely changed my life, i’ve finally achieved the kind of hair style that i want and it’s never been so easy before!!!
My mum cut my hair accordingly and it looks soooooo good on wavy hair!! My hair was almost straight before (2a) and now it's so much curlier, and the waves start almost on the top on my head. I recommend it! I did brush my hair before cutting if anyone is wondering how to do it. I wish it was shorter though, the hair is more or less to the shoulders.
It's like hair stylists have been watching how to cut your hair, yourself, at home videos. I've been cutting my own hair, this method, since 1997. 😆 after my last bad cut, I figured, I couldn't do much worse and saved myself some $$$. I've gotten compliments from friends who are successful professionals, too. 😊
Did my hair like this - I used my bangs as a guide (they're almost to my chin), I have curly hair and this cut brings my curls out better than my previous cut - happy with the results!
I learned this cut years ago. It was called Savage( heavy on the French). Same premise, so it is not a new cut. What goes around comes around. Love it.
I just followed this tutorial… my hair actually looks good. I was super nervous but it actually gave me the best layers of my life, and it was super easy to follow. THANK YOU!!!
Oh my gosh, i did it.... I was really afraid bc i have a very long hair and if it all went wrong, i would do nothing but cry. It turns out that now my self steam is up high in the clouds. Im impressed, for real. Thanks for the tutorial, I'm crying of happiness 💗
Now THAT'S a wolf cut. Effen brilliant tutorial. Going to give this a try with a much longer length first. I've been rocking one anyway without knowing it for the last couple of years due to my self-administered pandemi-cuts🤣 At least this tutorial is coming from an expert so it has to look hella better. Thanks so much💛
Just did this on my daughter. She's got the perfect hair for it - thick with big natural waves. Turned out perfect, and so easy! Hardest part is getting the hair super smooth before tying it. I was tempted to try 3 ponies (like a whacky mohawk) to see if that would make it easier...😁
I DID IT!! And this tutorial was so easy to follow! My hair looks so amazing!! I love that I didn’t have to go to a salon (I’m prepping for the apocalypse 🤣). I definitely like the look with the two ponies more than just the one.
Wow! Great tutorial! I just used this video to cut my own hair (I have no formal training) and seriously in 5 minutes I now have a salon quality cut with some incredible layers! I liked that you went with two ponies instead of one like most of the other videos and the makeup/shaving brush reference and point cut tips were super helpful. Thanks for making this girl feel like a million bucks!
THANK YOU! i have wavy, near-curly hair, i've always wanted it much much bigger, and wanted to give it a more 70s or 80s look depending on how i felt like styling it. i am impatient, did this very haphazardly and quickly, and i'm so very happy! of course, my waves help hide any stupid mistake i may have made, but i love love love my little mess i've given myself here. it's what i've wanted for YEARS!
I made a hair appointment and someone at work quit without notuce. I had to cancel my hair appointment. This is the type of haircut I have been wanting. Although I am not even a novice hair anything I was able to follow your visual directions and my hair came out great! My hair was already a longer bob, and this method took a few inches off, and gave it great texture, and the best thing is I get an updated look without compromising being able to work. Thank you so much for this video. 💗💗💗
[⚠️CURLY HAIR⚠️] I tried this on curly/ wavy and for the front part I cut to the top to my lips and it came out SO PRETTY, If you have a lot of shrinkage I suggest cut to your chin. For the back I wanted to keep length so I just cut off about a fingers length and it looks so CUTEE, I am literally IN LOVE!
It's a trend now but it's a great technique - simple but super effective. I'm considering doing it to myself after I wash my hair now that I've seen the unedited process from beginning to finish. Eventually, I want to have a bob sine pregnancy messed up my hair where it's short but layered like wolf hair in the back, but in the front, I have middle parted and layered bangs that are the longest of my hair. Trying to mix as many eras of styles that I enjoy into one hairdo cuz I'm a all-in-one kind of gal. 😆
I think you did a great job at cutting and explaining it :) You are a great teacher. Personally, that haircut itself is not my favorite, so I do not think I would choose it for myself. However, thank you for making this video. It is very informative :)
I've been giving myself this cut and variations of it to myself since 1982. The first time I didn't cut it right, not chopping into it (just a straight cut) and I had a true mullet before mullets had a name. The second time I divided my hair into two ponytails like you do in this demonstration. I have naturally curly extra fine hair and it looks fantastic when cut like this. The only time I've gone to a hairdresser was when I went through my various bob-with-a-stack stages.
I have 2c/3a curly hair and this has always been the best cut for me at 60 years of age. So easy to just let the curls go with some gel and scrunch out the crunch at the end .. or flip forward and paddle brush dry, side to side for the crown. Then flat iron with slight flip toward the face, a little texture balm to define and separate the ends for a sleek straight look. To me, steep layers in curly hair are essential to avoid bushy, frizzy hair. Just my opinion.
I had a really bad experience three days ago at a salon. I was almost ready to whack all my hair off except that I have unusually slow growing hair and I knew if I did that it was going to take another 2 years to grow it out again. I remembered this tutorial and I realized I didn't need to cut all my hair off, I just needed to cut the work that had been done out. So I want to thank you so much for this. It turned out absolutely perfect and it saved my from having to look in the mirror and see my hair the way the stylist who sexually harassed me cut it. I would rather cut my own hair then ever have that man near me again.
I just tried this haircut out! I only did it a little bit so it’s a bit more subtle (enough for my mum to not really notice) but I love it so much!! Great tutorial
Absolutely blown away by this, so easy & yet so effective! My daughter has such thick heavy hair & this cut really suits her, thankyou for sharing these tutorials 😊
You are BOTH right! I was born in 1974 and will now be on 01.nov. 47 years old. All the women and girls had this cut. Even the men of Glam hair metal bands. Or from glam rock bands. Do you know vlt. nor the bands Europe, Cinderella, Slash of Guns 'n' roses, and many more, also had such hair. Me too. From the mid-80s, the perm and blonde strands were added. And with a lot of hair varnish was touped. But the cut remained the same until the end of 1989. Because then there was a revival in fashion. The bob or pageboy cut, became modern. The clothes also changed a lot. You no longer wore skinny jeans, but everything oversized. And the most important thing were real converse shoes, a bandana cloth, round John Lennon sunglasses and a necklace with big peace signs. And shirts with large polka dot or paisley. Everything comes back every 20 till 40 years.. ♥
I've been cutting my hair this way since my 20s using a ponytail and cutting upside down to get the layers. The addition of the second ponytail in the back gives me some new ideas! Thanks for the upload!
OH MY GOD Why didn't I see this ages ago I'm actually in tears thought it was going to look awful,,,WOW my new and forever haircut I took the ties out and I couldn't believe it,,,so simple so easy and it looks absolutely lush layers are fab hairs lighter just thank you from the bottom of my heart 👏 😍 ❤agrees with 2 ponytails it adds so much more texture total time 6 mins from tying up that's a game chamger ❤❤❤❤
I just flipped all my hair to the front, put a band at the length I wanted and cut it in a straight line Turned out just how I wanted and I love it, finally found my forever haircut that suits me and is easy to do myself I wud only call it a wolf cut if u have very dramatic and short layers, my shortest layer is up to my chin and my hair length is in the middle of my shoulder and elbow but doesn't look like a true wolf cut unless I style it, if I had shorter layers and my hair was up to my shoulders it wud look more like a real wolf cut
This was my hair all through middleschool and I remember I hated it because I could never style it right. So at 2 AM last night, slightly tipsy I watched a makeup tutorial that would go really well with this cut and said to myself f it, I'm 24 and I can handle it. I woke up this morning, I had forgotten that I did it and I LOVE IT. I found out that a lot of my confidence came from having long, shiny hair so I cried a little bit that it's shorter and layered now but I love the feeling, and I recommend you do it if you know that you tend to stick with your old ways and if you need a starting point for accepting change :)
A "little" tipsy........ But drunk enough, that you FORGOT, you cut your own hair........😳 If that's a "little" tipsy to you, I'd hate to imagine what "getting drunk" is.🤪 Seriously. Think about it.🤔
Thank you for this, I did a fabulous version of this on my wavy blonde hair last night, love the layers. Been cutting my own for years and trying to nail the layers all over but this finally did the trick. :)
Can confirm, this is a great technique! If you are looking for a somewhat shag with less mullet-vibes, do one pony tail on top (similar to the unicorn cut, which is also popular for curly hair!)
I have never tried to cut my own hair and I’m so picky. But you gave me the inspiration and courage to try this. I am so happy I did because you explain & demonstrate so well I absolutely love my hair!! Thank you so much you are the greatest!!!
i absolutely love the result but would love it shorter! do i cut more of the ponytail or trim the hair after cutting?? edit: yall i cut it and it looks SO GOOD!! if you're hesitating DO IT cause i look so much better and im so much more confident rn!! thank youu ^^
I can't thank you enough for sharing this video !!🤗.After 8 week of radiation and later COVID my upper side is very weak, thinningand loosing hair ; so I use you technique and it came out very nice and it looks fuller and wavy too. I feel much younger now ...lol. Also it is more easy to apply any product I am using to make that area growth it hair back .. Genius idea 💡!!
GREAT tutorial! I've used this technique at varying lengths, and it has always turned out very nicely! Just the right amount of layers and length, easy to do, and you can cater to how drastic you want it. Thank you for sharing!
I have wavy hair, and this was so good. Im really grateful of all your hair cuts in the pony tails. I did your shaggy one first, but saw a reaction video to a wolf cut and so glad I finished on the wolf cut with my hair type. The other cut still worked out, but I much prefer this one. Thank you!
I grew up in the '70's. We (girls my age) all loved the long straight hair parted down the middle as in the Brady Bunch. When Farah Fawcett showed up with her shag, we all wanted that cut. So we went home, and turned our heads upside down and gathered our hair into a ponytail at the forehead and chopped it off. It was crude but we were happy,. Suddenly many girls in my Junior High had the Farrah Fawcett shag. We thought we were so sheek.
Just done it and my word, I feel like it's taken 30 years off me. Scrunch-dried it with some mousse and my head upside down as I would have done in 1985 and now I feel the need for some Whitesnake 😂 Thanks so much, Paul. I've been cutting my own hair since the covid times, mostly just boring bobs with a bit of face shaping but this is so easy and any 'not to straight' bits don't show up at all. The hardest part was getting it tied up right.
Ahhh! I’m so happy!! I just did this on a whim cuz my hair is fried and I didn’t feel like paying for a haircut. I didn’t even finish the video before starting and I’m in LOVE with this haircut!! It came out so good!!
Yo Paul, Cool stuff man. Even if you don't actually do this it gives you alot of insight into how layering works and reference points to keep in mind for cutting. I think doing more of these "pony tail" cuts would be very useful. Cheers!
GENIUS!! I only did one ponytail at top because I wasn't sure of the outcome and it's perfect!! I have thin very little hair n now it looks voluminous!! Love it, thanks for the video!! ❤️
I did it and it looks GREAT. It's shorter than I wanted but not by much. I'm thrilled! I wish I could send before and after pics but can't figure out how.
Omg!!! I did this after watching your video. But before I did it I watched one where you watched a girl try it after watching your video and using it as a guide. In the video and you kept commenting on her method and showed the differences in your technique and what she was doing. For example her ponytail wasn’t in the same position as yours was. And how her hair was a bit fuzzy. So I straightened mine first and got my two ponytails in place I did front first. 4 tries so I cut some removed front ponytail to check saw I wanted shorter then repeated 3 more times. Then when I was happy with the front length I did the back ponytail. It turned out amazing!!! I can’t believe I just cut my own hair and it looks so good. I also have more volume now. Thank you so much. 😘
My hair turned out slightly differently since I changed some lengths and I LOVE IT. I had my hair cut this way years ago, and now I can do it too! Thank you!!
That was amazing! I used to have this style when I was younger. Had it with a particular hairdresser and when I stopped going to her due to distance, no one else wanted to cut that for me. I’m so glad the trend is back! But now I wanna do it myself hahaha
Hey y’all it might a little late to comment but I did this cut. I have curly plus thick hair. Something I would recommend is first start with the two ponytail as he said and then if it is not enough( like for me) do three ponytail but keep the amount of hair for the front ponytail the same and just divide the back one is two ( horizontally) Also this method works.. love this video
I just finished doing this with my mum. I was petrefied that if have to buy a wig for going back to school, but instead I am so happy and satisfied with the results. Thankyou sm, my fav haircut I've ever had.
I’ve been obsessed with this style for ages but been way too scared to actually do it, this make me feel confident enough to do it and I’m so excited 🤩 THANK YOU! (And pray for me..😂)
ok this actually worked really well and I’m surprised. saving this video for future reference. i have somewhere between curly and wavy hair so I’m glad i didn’t cut the front too short because my bangs would be way too curly lol. but this worked great. thank god i never have to go get my hair cut professionally again 😩🙏
Thank you! Did it and it WORKS!! I have an undercut as well and still worked great! So many layers in a cool cut and has taken alot of the weight off but maintaining much of the length!!
Just did the Wolf cut for the 5th time!!! It seemed like a good idea, lol. Came out great! Thankfully, it’s pretty dang hard to screw up a wolf cut! 😂😂😂. Thank you for teaching us and sharing your knowledge with these videos!!
This. Worked. BEAUTIFULLY!!! I haven't cut my hair in about a year. Going to a salon just isn't on my list of priorities. But my hair was about mid back and my ends were incredibly dead. I have cut my bangs in the past, but never my entire head of hair. The instructions for this were perfect to follow. My hair is now just past shoulder length and feels unbelievably healthy. I'm not good at styling my hair either. All I did was a quick blow dry after and my hair looks amazing!! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!
I just did it and it made my hair look sooo mcuh better even when it's dirty it looks awesome!!! I can't wait to wash it and leave it with my natural wave pattern hehe
i just cut my hair like this and IM IN LOVE WITH THE RESULT but it's a lot harder than one can imagine to do this on your own(especially if your hair is below chest length)
Just tried this for myself and absolutely love it! I pulled my front pony tail a little further back from my forehead for a bit longer length around my face, but followed the directions to the letter after that.
Oh wow! What a brilliant technique and so well instructed. I’ve been searching videos on how to remove the bulk from my long bob but now I’m going to have to try this. Thank you 🙏🏻 ☺️
Ooooo I love this. I’m more than half tempted to try it myself…. I have a hair appointment booked in the middle of August though. It’s a toss up of do it& know the “fix it” appointment is booked or just wait. 😫 decisions decisions
No ooooo 😂 let your stylist do it, it's no so simple doing it on yourself. I'm sure they could correct it if you did... But just think how cool it would look done by a stylist.
@@PaulWattsHair that’s what I decided on doing! Because with how cool the layers were on the mannequin- if I cut my hair, like over quarantine trimming up/following the shape put there by my stylist or to trim my daughters bangs, I follow the rule “you can always cut off more. You can’t put it back on”. So I don’t think it would look as good if I did it anyways.

Thanks so much💛
Me too 😭
Just did this on my daughter.
followed this tutorial after my barber messed up my haircut and it fixed it so well im in love. tysm! this works really well everyone
I'm going to do this haircut on Sunday and add some wispy bangs to it. I hope I can look good too, because I have wavy hair 😄
I have wavy hair and it goes to my shoulders, im gonna improvise, i hope it turns out cool lmao
Did you do this with dry or wet hair?
@@purple7188 thank you
@@Madpooper420 ofc! merry Christmas if you celebrate
What are we thinking about the wolf cut? Old school technique come good? or is it just a tiktok trend?
I like the "old" technique!
Look up the unicorn cut. Curly/ wavy people have been doing this forever.
Can't believe this kind of haircut becomes so popular these days. This is my kind of haircut when I was in high school.🤣
Everything comes back around
I have 2c/3a curly hair and this has always been the best cut for me at 60 years of age. So easy to just let the curls go with some gel and scrunch out the crunch at the end .. or flip forward and paddle brush dry, side to side for the crown. Then flat iron with slight flip toward the face, a little texture balm to define and separate the ends for a sleek straight look. To me, steep layers in curly hair are essential to avoid bushy, frizzy hair. Just my opinion.
I'm having major flashbacks to my emo phase lol.
Oh man, I am so sorry!!
I just tried this haircut out! I only did it a little bit so it’s a bit more subtle (enough for my mum to not really notice) but I love it so much!! Great tutorial
I'm gonna try it tomorrow 🤝
@@هداية-ذ8ث is it worth for thin hair ??
I just gave myself the best haircut I’ve had in years. Followed this tutorial to the letter and it works. Thank you!
Absolutely blown away by this, so easy & yet so effective! My daughter has such thick heavy hair & this cut really suits her, thankyou for sharing these tutorials 😊
I absolutely love this cut! Reminds me of Joan Jett Cut back in early 80’s.
I was thinking Farah Fawcett.
OH MY GOD
Why didn't I see this ages ago I'm actually in tears thought it was going to look awful,,,WOW my new and forever haircut I took the ties out and I couldn't believe it,,,so simple so easy and it looks absolutely lush layers are fab hairs lighter just thank you from the bottom of my heart 👏 😍 ❤agrees with 2 ponytails it adds so much more texture total time 6 mins from tying up that's a game chamger ❤❤❤❤
I just flipped all my hair to the front, put a band at the length I wanted and cut it in a straight line
Turned out just how I wanted and I love it, finally found my forever haircut that suits me and is easy to do myself
I wud only call it a wolf cut if u have very dramatic and short layers, my shortest layer is up to my chin and my hair length is in the middle of my shoulder and elbow but doesn't look like a true wolf cut unless I style it, if I had shorter layers and my hair was up to my shoulders it wud look more like a real wolf cut
Great to hear
what is your hair type? :)
But drunk enough, that you FORGOT, you cut your own hair........😳
If that's a "little" tipsy to you, I'd hate to imagine what "getting drunk" is.🤪
Seriously.
I'm having 80's flashbacks, I'm totally doing this to my hair, thanks Paul!
Me too, there's no turning back!
Goes back to the 70s possibly the 60s..I remember Stevie Nick's hair was like this..The style is timeless.
I have never tried to cut my own hair and I’m so picky. But you gave me the inspiration and courage to try this. I am so happy I did because you explain & demonstrate so well I absolutely love my hair!! Thank you so much you are the greatest!!!
I just cut my own hair following loosely the directions on your video, it turned out 10000000 times better than I thought it would, thanks for the vid
i absolutely love the result but would love it shorter! do i cut more of the ponytail or trim the hair after cutting??
edit: yall i cut it and it looks SO GOOD!! if you're hesitating DO IT cause i look so much better and im so much more confident rn!! thank youu ^^
Thank you Ravnns, you can do either or both.
I’m convinced
I'm getting ready to try 🤯🤯
I can't thank you enough for sharing this video !!🤗.After 8 week of radiation and later COVID my upper side is very weak, thinningand loosing hair ; so I use you technique and it came out very nice and it looks fuller and wavy too. I feel much younger now ...lol. Also it is more easy to apply any product I am using to make that area growth it hair back .. Genius idea 💡!!
I can’t believe how good my hair came out!! 🥺 I usually have very flat hair up top and heavy on the bottom this suits me so well!
I'm loving how all these old haircuts are coming back.
I think that it is a complete mess. If anyone ever cut my hair like that I would be horrified.
GREAT tutorial! I've used this technique at varying lengths, and it has always turned out very nicely! Just the right amount of layers and length, easy to do, and you can cater to how drastic you want it. Thank you for sharing!
I just did this cut on my daughter, who had really long hair, and it came out amazing!
I have wavy hair, and this was so good. Im really grateful of all your hair cuts in the pony tails. I did your shaggy one first, but saw a reaction video to a wolf cut and so glad I finished on the wolf cut with my hair type. The other cut still worked out, but I much prefer this one. Thank you!
I did single ponytail for more than 10years myself.. now on I will be doing this.. awesome cuts Thank u 😍😍🙏🙏
Same! I like this so much, this will be my cut for the foreseeable future.
Showed my mom this and she cut my hair, it looks really good and my natural hair shape is finally showing. Thanks for the video, doing it again soon
Just done it and my word, I feel like it's taken 30 years off me. Scrunch-dried it with some mousse and my head upside down as I would have done in 1985 and now I feel the need for some Whitesnake 😂
Thanks so much, Paul. I've been cutting my own hair since the covid times, mostly just boring bobs with a bit of face shaping but this is so easy and any 'not to straight' bits don't show up at all. The hardest part was getting it tied up right.
The best wolf cut I have seen so far! I am going to try this, because I love this look.
OH MY GODD!! I DID IT! It was my first haircut ever and I'm SO HAPPY WITH MY RESULTS!! THANK YOU!! ❤️
Ahhh! I’m so happy!! I just did this on a whim cuz my hair is fried and I didn’t feel like paying for a haircut. I didn’t even finish the video before starting and I’m in LOVE with this haircut!! It came out so good!!
I had this haircut when I was training, not done with the ponytail method though, that was about 15 years ago 😬
Awesome to hear. I just wanted to break it down so it's really simple.
I did this and I am in love with the results. Thank you, I needed this 😩
Yo Paul,
Cool stuff man. Even if you don't actually do this it gives you alot of insight into how layering works and reference points to keep in mind for cutting. I think doing more of these "pony tail" cuts would be very useful. Cheers!
Thanks Justin, it's just having a bit of fun. I've put another up. But check my previous videos for more technical

Been doing this for years.. didn't know it was a thing. Also putting it up in a twisted bun and when I take it down it's curly and shaggy
First time I've ever read a complete commentary thread!!! I was so surprised to come across so many kindred spirits and was/am totally captivated ....
DUDE I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR LIKE 3 MONTHS NOW AND I LOVE IT. I have been getting so many compliments on it too!!
I cut my hair yesterday using this technique. Absolutely love my hairstyle now.. Thankyou soooo much!
I just did this and omg I'm speechless. I love it!!!! Thank you so much for this 🙏🦋💓
Thank you!!
I used this tutorial to cut my daughters hair today and it looks awesome ! Love this!
Boom~ perfect and easy and straight to the point, I love this haircut, thank you Paul!!
That was amazing! I used to have this style when I was younger. Had it with a particular hairdresser and when I stopped going to her due to distance, no one else wanted to cut that for me. I’m so glad the trend is back! But now I wanna do it myself hahaha
My hair looks and feels amazing with this cut
Way happier with my hair than I've ever been leaving a hairdressers. Cheers!
Hey y’all it might a little late to comment but I did this cut. I have curly plus thick hair. Something I would recommend is first start with the two ponytail as he said and then if it is not enough( like for me) do three ponytail but keep the amount of hair for the front ponytail the same and just divide the back one is two ( horizontally)
Also this method works.. love this video
Just cut my hair, looks amazing. Thank you. Love it.
I went back to the salon 6 months ago and it’s looked like poop since!
I did this exact haircut with one of those Crea clips instead of the tape and it turned out amazing. I think it's a cute haircut!

Did you wet your hair or cut it dry?
@@anisab735 Dry cut. And I straightened it a bit to make it easier to put in a pony tail.
Just did the Wolf cut for the 5th time!!! It seemed like a good idea, lol. Came out great! Thankfully, it’s pretty dang hard to screw up a wolf cut! 😂😂😂. Thank you for teaching us and sharing your knowledge with these videos!!
Wonderful video! Can’t wait to use this on my clients today!
Thank you Rylie, great to hear you're trying it out.
This.
WOW! You just made it so easy to follow... Done and I love the outcome! Thanks!!
Amazing results ❤️❤️ Thankyou so much for this wolf haircut tutorial 🥰. It's also super easy and stress free and what a refreshing look! 💕
I just did it and it made my hair look sooo mcuh better even when it's dirty it looks awesome!!! I can't wait to wash it and leave it with my natural wave pattern hehe
i just cut my hair like this and IM IN LOVE WITH THE RESULT but it's a lot harder than one can imagine to do this on your own(especially if your hair is below chest length)
it’s almost 5 am and the second i finished the video i did this to my hair 😭 thank you though

Awesome I'd love to see it once it's done. Maybe vlog the whole thing?!!!
