C8 Z06 is a great car, you will see Z06 on the streets more often then GTD.
@@AndyTN64 Of course, the Z06 is the Corvette's GT350 equivalent, it's still a street car first and a track car second; the GTD is a different animal altogether, in the same vane as the 911 GT3RS, which GM has never tried to compete with.
Which is actually kinda surprising when you consider that Ford was already doing the hardcore-track-car with-a-license-plate thing before with the Mustang Cobra R cars(not quite GT-extreme obviously, but they were gutted of stereo, sound deadening, etc., came with an SCCA membership), Chrysler was doing it with Viper ACR cars, and obviously the 911 GT3RS, given that the 911 and 'Vette have always been relatively direct competitors.
After watching Jim explain why this car exists it makes much more sense to me than it did during your "one take". I hope Ford is successful with their racing endeavors. I'm still not excited for the road going variant (due to the cost and my guess about it's weight), but understand why other people may be. That said, I would definitely enjoy watching you thrash one of these on the track and see how it compares to your experience with the GT500 since with the additional down force I'd imagine that this would be in another league.

You know they made fun of the 2000 Cobra R wing when it first came out, but at the time was tested to provide proper downforce for the car. I’m guessing the wing is more for aero, not for aesthetics….until every body kit maker makes a knockoff version for the street cars

I think at a $300,000 price tag…ford has lost their minds. Bad enough they lose money on EVs. Now they want to compete in the 300k range and still does not have all wheel drive. They already messed up the ford GT with a V6. I don’t understand how American car makers are all about limited edition and special edition cars for the rich. The car dealers are already killing the market with mark ups. What happened to selling volume instead of marketing to a small group. CEOs have no idea how to run these companies. Combine that with a recession coming, you would think they would focus on affordable cars. It’s sad to see the days of just wanting everyone to buy your brand for quality made cars is a thing of the past.

@@leofhr2966 I think people today drive their cars a lot more than in the past. Lambos are much more reliable now and can be driven daily. If Ford had made a new GT $300K would be ok, but at the end of the day this is still a mustang.

This thing isn't going to be lightweight, reading between the lines it sure sounds like it has the Ford GT's dual suspension system, with two different sets of springs and the hydraulics that adjust in between them. That system is why the GT was 3000lbs+ - but it's also what allowed the GT to have real street driving ground clearance as well as the lowest realistic CoG on the track.
Weight is heavily overrated at this point - the C8 Z06 weighs the same as a GT350R, and that's a composite bodied 2 seater. Ayy, shout out to ALLLLL those people that don't apply for the GTD "just because it's too heavy" though... lmao
If I had $300,000 I wouldn't even spend that much on a house much less a car
if you had only 300k ofc you won't this is only for people with at least a 350k and more income a year if they financing or if they buying straight out people with lower incomes like around 200k+ could probably save 300k depending on they expenses within 5 to 6 years out of that everyone else just have to find other ways like rent maybe.
