Honestly this is just icing on the cake. I’m hoping the racing variant will DOMINANTE GTD Pro next year. Will definitely be going to the petit Le Mans with that thing running.
@@AJUSA1 Yea.. they came out and said they want the win at Le Mans. As it stands, I don't think this car is open for anything but a few time attack classes. If they want to keep that 800hp, this thing will weigh more than 5000 lbs, as the rest of the GTE field is about 500hp and 2800 lbs give of take. Not to mention non-legal aero and dampers. If they want to run the mustang in WEC, it'll go like the C8, just loosely based, because of weirdness of the GTD kit being put on and the Z06 GT3R not being ready. So maybe soon we will see a mustang GT3R.
This car is a true homologation race car that reminds me of the Group B days of the Renault Turbo 5, Lancia Stratos, and RS200. I honestly thought those extreme homologation cars would never be seen again and then this car rolls around. This truly feels like a purpose built race car that they just happened to need to put on the road.
I have to give FORD credit....I am not a FORD guy but I have always appreciated the Mustang. Had a 95 Trans Am with a little work done and no traction control with the 6 speed and it was a blast to drive straight or sideways. Got myself a 2019 Mustang GT this year with a 6 speed and it handles very well. I know a lot of it is due to the jump in technology and some more power but I really do enjoy driving the Mustang and part of me is thinking about trading it in for an S650 or whatever the new gen is in a few years. I'm still a GM guy at heart...But I can't deny the newer mustangs are pretty damn fun to drive.
If you care about modding don't fo the s650. If you like stock cars go for it. The ecu is locked down and s550 has far more potential. Newer ain't always better.
@midnight347 it really depends. If I wanna mod it yeah I'll stick with the S550 or get something else. But that's a question for a few years time, I'm gonna enjoy what I've got for now
People are mad about the price tag but this is the Ford version (kinda) of the Chevrolet C8, Incredibly unbelievable performance (literally has an F1 wing) for extremely cheap. 300k is not a lot at all. For a car that can beat every car in its price range and beyond if they accomplish their lap goal.
As soon as I saw this thing I INSTANTLY fell in love with the looks. What a beautifully aggressive look from literally every angle. The crazy deep resonant sounds blending out the tail pipes is just a symphonic master class. Awesome. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

The last gasp of any tech is always the best of that dying tech. Pretty cool piece of kit. Will be eager to see how it stacks against the Porsche GT3 price for price. I'm not sure if it will sway people away from Porsche since they have been in this space for a very long time but the comparisons will be epic.
Should be able to steal the front engine record from Mercedes. With over 800 hp it would have a better power to weight even at 4000lbs. Once we see the new GT3 RS time we'll get a sense of how active areo will drop lap times. I am surprised they didn't go with a turbo though.

Ford is one of the few car companies that's doing nearly everything right as of right now. It's crazy that they made the gt500 look like a snack break during recess for the GTD
on the topic of having stuff trickle down to the lower models it would be great if you can get the transaxle in the lower trim levels for those who want that 50/50 wieght distribution on a daily or something they want to modify themselves

It just worked? That justifies price? So $50k cars dont work? Corvette C7 does not work? A GT500 does not work? Saying a car "just works" is not in anyway a compeling reason to pay more than 10 times the price.
It's not just the weight distribution from using a trans axle and being able to move the engine back. It gets even better, they are also using a dry sump so the weight of the engine is lower in the chassis where you want it. That suspension not only has adjustable rebound, dampening and ride height like you would see on high end magnetic suspensions but, it also has adjustable spring rates from inside the car O_O (On a Mustang). Also no one is going to be swapping out a full titanium exhaust. Btw I don't believe you mentioned that his a full carbon fiber bodied vehicle also (unless I missed it).

I will say my 2006 S197 GT can handle after I replaced and upgraded a bunch of suspension components. Out of the box, it was 30% stiffer than the SN95 models. Of course, nothing will compare to these new S550/S650 models with IRS. I think this is just....AWESOME!
@@overtorque I like the 05-10 ones. The mid-model refresh changed the front end in a way that seemed uglier, especially around the headlights and grill. And then with the S550 it sort of felt like they were trying to make it look like the later model SN95 with the angry headlights.
@@shred1894 Haha! The SN95 did have an "angry" look to them. I can't recall, but it was a woman who designed the SN95 and wanted it to have a feminine look. When I was a tech at Ford, we laughed at the rear of the later S197 models cause they had a Honda Accord shape to them 🤣

Thats pretty dope ngl. But Ford be out here making moves. bring back the Focus RS though.
Dude Ford was making badass shit way before the last decade I'd argue they lost their way after the gt350 was made. They don't even offer a manual option on gt500s and the Mach 1 was a 60-70k dollar gt with leftover gt350 suspension and trans (on manuals) and decals. Driveline is essentially a mustang gt. They made the electric 4 door suv mustang which says it all in and of itself. The new s650 is locked down people are kissing ford's ass too much lately and I'm a big Ford guy I'd argue 2000-2020 was way more impressive for Ford and alot more driver focus they cared about having real drivers cars then now they do the shit we see now. The electric 4 door suv mustang is unforgivable. *edit* In my rant I forgot all about the 100k dollar "lightning" they made that is totally useless as a truck and a total disgrace to what the lightning has always been. Don't get me wrong, I have always loved Ford, but the only problem I have with cars like this, is anyone who can afford this $300k mustang can also just afford a GT3rs or any Porsche for that matter, and this will never beat a Porsche. When the C8 came out it was a legit supercar killer with specs that rival $250k cars for under $100k fully specced out. Sad things is, a majority of people won't care and as he gets older... His car reviews are becoming less critical and more safe to not ruffle anyone feather. To each his own but I miss the authentic David... Might unsubscribe if this is the path he's going down.
Yeah, the $300k price tag is way beyond what most can afford, but compared to the other big dogs, it's really a great deal. And the car is something one could drive to work, and then take to a track day event on the weekends and just blow anything else away. What I would love to see is a side by side lap time event against some of the other cars in its class, including the very affordable (by comparison) Ultima kit cars, which push 1080 hp stock.
300k plus is crazy, ford did great with the car but truly just a PR stunt not for consumers in the American market, I can see Chevy doing this with a c8 ZR1 for half the price and more readily available
I love what they did with the wing. I loved it when they first did a high wing on the SVO's even when everyone else hated them, i loved them. My brother and uncle both have 2021 GT's in the small town we live in, they are almost too much car for around here, you run out of road fast when you're moving that fast and they are fast. I can't imagine anyone getting use out of a GTD here but someone will buy one because we're only a few miles away from Mid Ohio Sports Car course.
I love it but that price is kinda crazy for a mustang that hasn’t proven anything yet nor won any races despite all the great technology it has. Still a great looking car can’t wait to hopefully see it in person
This Ford GTD is glorious! The over-the-top box flares, aero-bits It reminds me of the 70's-early 90's IMSA GTO cars, but for the street?!? In an era where it seems manufacturers are bent on destroying "the drivers car" Ford comes through for enthusiasts with the money and resume and gives hope to the rest of us. If they trickle this formula down to a regular guy price tag the Porsche GT3 will have some competition and force the other mfgs. to respond. It's a great time to be an enthusiast!
Welp, I'd say that this is the most track spec Mustang you could ever get after the Shelby GT350 and GT500 and also outside of straightline speeds and oval racing!!! Kinda gives me a tribute to their Cobra R!!! Atleast Ford is now trying to put on a fight against the big dogs of the Nurburgring like Porsche GT3, Mercedes AMG GT Black Series, Huracan STO, Viper ACR!!! Well done man!!!
If Ford made the GTD in the same quantities as the GT500, they could bring down the cost considerably. It would still have plenty of profit at $120,000. Which is still quite expensive, but not for what it is. I would love to have a chance to drive one someday.
at least they really make sure the last mustang will be remembered as one of the best.. kinda sucks that it will be limited to 999 units, I kinda hate when manufacturer do that.. I think we can look over the pricing, but limiting production (and I am certain it will be sold out rapidly) makes it just a collectors car which you will likely never will see in person and wont be used for its great purpose.. driving, fun, lap times.. (man the front fascia looks SOOO GOOOD)

Honestly this is just icing on the cake. I’m hoping the racing variant will DOMINANTE GTD Pro next year. Will definitely be going to the petit Le Mans with that thing running.
That is a HUGE undertaking .... look at the competition, its the finest of the fine.
If they just try to submit the car as it stands for WEC, the BoP its going to get will be basically another car
@@EvLSpectre Exactly!
Ford will spend enough to make that happen... one way or another... Racing is often more about politicking and less about the actual cars...
