Let me know your thoughts on the Bronco's Auto Start function and are you doing anything to defeat it.
Thank you Tim, great info.
Best cut to a wife giving great advice ever! Made me actually laugh out loud. Loving the content.
Thank you. She is definitely the more practical one between us and routinely tells me to land my plane when I tend to ramble on.
Thanks for the video, that is Thea me route I plan on following once I actually get my Bronco.
Do you have a build date yet?
@@Overlanding4Fun no sir, still waiting
Very nicely done
Thank you.
The Auto Stop Eliminator was one of the first things I installed on my new Bronco Outer Banks. Next came the Redline hood struts.
Yes it does
I think it’s an EPA deal with the manufacturers to be in compliance so the feature uses a non latching switch. If your vehicle has a 110V outlet for charging devices you can plug a switchable very dim night light into the outlet and it thinks you’re charging a device and it disables auto start stop. I bought one for under $2.00 and at least on my 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat it works perfectly. Mine sits behind the front seats on the back of the console so I never even notice it’s there. Simply switch it off and Auto Start Stop is enabled again.
I don't have my Bronco yet and my car doesn't have the start stop feature. I was traveling back from Ohio to my home and I was on i40 when we came up to an accident. Of course it was completely stopped traffic. I had half a tank of fuel, but how long would this take? We sat for a while and finally got going. The start stop feature would've been great right there so I didn't waste my gas sitting on i40 waiting.
Makes sense. One of the reasons I went with the AutoStop Eliminator, was so I could still enable the auto stop if I was spending time stuck in traffic. Thank you for watching.
@@Overlanding4Fun That's my plan when I get my Bronco too. I'm looking forward to more content in the future.
Hey there! I'm looking for OEM step rails. I cannot locate on the Ford site. Thoughts?
Are you looking for the rock sliders or the running board style of steps and do you have a 2 door or 4 door? I would look on Facebook and see if you have a local Broncos group and see if anyone has a set that they took off to replace with aftermarket option. You might find a good deal on a like new set.
My wife drives a Range Rover and I've noticed that when the A/C is at the lowest level the Auto Stop feature is disabled. When the A/C is 2-3 degrees over the lowest setting it activates the Auto Stop feature. I'm thinking this has to do with how much amp the vehicle needs at any particular moment. I haven't test it with the heater. Don't know if other manufactures run their systems the same way.
I have not figured out what the specific criteria is for Ford, but in general things like outside temp, cabin temp, AC/heat, engine temp, driving modes, wheel position and brake pedal all go in to the mix.
I just drove our Bronco home from the dealership and this auto stop thing is horrendous. We've driven the car 15 miles, been shut off about 25 times and here I am apparently needing to buy a 110 dollar device to disable this outrageous "feature" on a 65 thousand dollar car? wtf.
To be fair to @ford and the other manufactures, the government has forced this upon them with their fuel economy standards. I think it is fair to criticize Ford for their crappy implementation of it on the Bronco and I am sure other large vehicles in their fleet. If you look at the picture I used for the thumbnail, the Auto Stop engaged while I was sitting in an intersection waiting for an oncoming vehicle to pass so I could turn left. I had my foot on the brake with the turned to the left at 5 degrees. That is the last place I want to be with the engine shut down.
@@Overlanding4Fun I've softened a little bit on the issue now. I still don't approve of the auto shut off feature personally but I didn't realize there is a button to turn it off each trip so at least you have the ability to defend yourself against it. The salesman told us you do it from the menu which you cannot. Just hadn't had but a few minutes with the car and was literally shocked. imho the button should be if you choose to ACTIVATE it and the default should be the car otherwise stays running when you turn it on. Car seems pretty fantastic otherwise thus far and hopefully it lasts a long time.
This is the most irritating feature on most new cars but since I generally drive manuals I thought I was safe. NOPE... this thing was on my manual Bronco and I was pissed when I picked it up because I didn't know that. They can't do remote engine start for a manny but somehow they can include auto start/stop which does NOT remember my setting. All relevant debates aside, this is ultimately about driver preference. There is no real reason why the end user should have to fix this.
It would be nice if Ford gave the consumer the option to turn it off and it stays off until consumer decided to turn it back on.
I seem to be in the minority who actually *want* start/stop functionality - but I have to wonder if it's being implemented properly, or if we're viewing it in the right context. Totally get there are situations where I don't want it - i.e. crawling through multiple stop signs in a parking lot - but there are also those where I do, like my god-awful commute that frequently has me sitting at a standstill. In that way, I view it like an e-locker: no, it doesn't necessarily make sense to use it constantly, but it is a tool that can prove beneficial in some circumstances, and I'd like to have the option to use it.
Also, have to say - Ford did a decent job of tuning S/S on the Bronco; I've not found it too jarring or abrupt on my 2.3/10AT. I can't always say that's the case with other OEs.
I agree auto stop has its place. What I like with the Auto Stop Eliminator is you don’t loose the function. You just don’t have to remember to turn it off every time you start the Bronco.
Haven't received my BL yet, (2-1 2-7) ETA. hopefully, but I'm putting my 7pin in mine to see if stops from cycling off, towing package may make a diff. Heard trough grape vine so,,,,
