Was excited to talk about this because a lot needed to be said, and as a community, some people need to be better and not treat speculation, excitement and even skepticism as life or death. Most of us pretty much want the same thing, so let’s act more that way! Also I went to split screen because the camera unfocussed 😔
I 100% agree with you mate. ❤ I see it a lot on social media how some people are speculating and others negatively respond rather than sharing an actual opinion and not being polite about it either. I look at it myself and think the same as you "This has gotta be a hint", and so on. It is true we can't be certain and it may just be a choice of words because they are associated with the game. But, what I believe is what you suggested and that it is a hint. If this is true, this hint could be saying 2 things in my opinion: 1) "We have a Game Design Document/a plan for the series and we will pitch it to Microsoft. No guarantees, but we will try to get the right to work on the project again on our new lease of life." 2) "We got the rights for the Spyro project so please wait a little more." I wouldn't want to believe they put that wording there if it didn't mean anything, but that is also always a possibility. Let's wait and see anyway 😊 Great video as always and I like the split screen. Nice to see some of your gameplay while seeing you on screen at the same time. 😊
As a longtime fan of the crash and spyro series since the first games, I'm rooting for you guys in the future and future projects! I can't wait to hear back from you guys going back to focusing on you!
Yeah, to me the biggest casualty of a studio was Vicarious Visions. Had one of the most successful launches of a Tony Hawk game, and then shipped off to Diablo and lost their name. Absolutely fucking deplorable.
The only thing I'll say is that the "Keep your horns on" doesn't necessarily have to be a hint. In the original game, the line was stated by delbin as a way to essentially say "Calm down". With that in mind, they may have simply said it to tell everyone not to panic, while giving a loving homage to an IP they've worked with for a long time that most people know them for. I believe that angle, and that they overlooked the implication the reference would have on the fanbase moreso than that it's a direct hint or that they're evil.
That’s a fair point, but I think them nodding to it feels more like they want to point us in a particular direction. But I guess we won’t see what happens for a long time!
I agree with everything you said, and I think this news is overall very positive. One thing I have noticed is that if Spyro 4 is being worked on right now, everyone is assuming Toys for Bob is/was working on it. I'm not sure why people are considering that maybe Beenox or another Activision studio is/was working on it. While Toys for Bob did work on Reignited, Beenox did a great job on Nitro-Fueled and I would trust them if they worked on Spyro 4. Another thing that bothers me is that some people seem to be more concerned about the Spyro IP more than the people who work on the games themselves (Spyro and otherwise). That's not to say talking about the Spyro IP isn't warranted, but the people should always be a higher priority. Toys for Bob has been through such turmoil (the pandemic, the Acti lawsuits/toxic work environments, the Microsoft acquisition, the layoffs, etc.) that I'd hate to see them get hit with even more curveballs if they remained under Acti/MS. People seem to forget or not understand the hard work and love the people put into the games we love. As for the gaming industry as a whole, it is a huge dumpster fire, holy crap. From the Unity installation controversy back in September to the thousands of layoffs in the past year, things have been bleak. Toys for Bob spinning off from Acti/MS is absolutely incredible, *especially* among these tough times.
I mean, I totally agree on what you said about “keep your horns on.” I feel like they said that for a reason. I wouldn’t think Toys For Bob would be sadistic and just play with our feelings.
I feel like the chance for a new Spyro game by TFB is somewhere in the ballpark of 35-40% So I don't think it's necessarily on the way or guaranteed, but there's a decent chance something could come from this. It's mostly due to there being some mutual interest for it (now that Microsoft has taken over), and TFB managed to dodge the studio guillotine, AND they are immediately confirming they have some form of partnership negotiation going on as they are walking out of the door. Like, it does seem like the idea is "hey, you want this new Spyro to happen, we are open to this happening but are unfortunately cutting a lot of staff, but you also want to go indie and potentially have outside investors helping that to happen? This could be a good time to explore different opportunities and ideas". It could very well be that they are never getting a chance to work on Spyro again, but I don't think this alone rules that out. I feel it's actually more positive that things are rolling forward again for them, which is better than before when fans were coping that something Spyro related is definitely going to happen despite the complete silence. I doubt Microsoft is going to hire more people (just after letting go off so much staff), or pull another COD slave studio to the side to work on a new Spyro internally, when they had a perfectly fine studio already for that. But even if we don't end up getting more Spyro, I'm definitely curious about TFB's new game.
@@CrystalFissure Fingers crossed, the whole “early days and ways away from announcement” could just mean it’s just not ready for announcement trailer yet until a few months. You may not know.
I guess I'm probably part of the people who struggle not to get too excited and/or crushed as bits of evidence for and against Spyro 4 happening. I try not to get too wrapped up in it, but with how much Spyro means to me it's hard not to get excited with certain news and lose all hope with other news sometimes.. and then a while after hope comes back because I just want it so badly. But on the other hand I 100% agree that I've been sick of people making fun of people who do speculate on a Spyro 4 happening. Sometimes it makes me wonder if people actually want new Spyro games? Or if they actually want Spyro to be abandoned again? Because when they act so negative when people hold hope it kinda makes it seem like the latter. Although I've not always bought everything CGE has said I've still enjoyed listening to his thoughts on it all because it is nice to hear discussion on it. While a lot of people completely write him off as nothing but clickbait. Which I understand that mentality too, but at the end of the day he's just a passionate guy talking about something he loves.

Personally, I'm excited. The hints, and the fact that this studio is incredibly talented, creative, and whimsical. I've always had hope. Even before reignited. It'll happen
@11:10 Yeah I can't help but agree, the next spyro would ideally be a AA game with a limited sales expectation. Even then 3D platformers are still pretty niche . I'm still hopeful for whatever happens. Good vid.
You should do a video comparing the PS2 Enter the Dragonfly greatest hits version vs the original, some claim the greatest hits version fixes a lot of the issues with the original
Yea im pretty hopeful. I dont think Toys for Bobs statement reads the same if they already dont have a feeling that Microsoft would be open to a licensing deal like that. I think that statement goes more like "Unfortunately us going indie may impact future anticipated projects" or something like that lol but it doesnt so fans should get a lil more optimistic
I think the cynicism is sort of makes sense, seeing how Spyro somewhat got sidelined if you were to compare it to the Crash series, outside cameos, Spyro felt more or less like an afterthought. Also, I think the discussion around where is Spyro 4 became less of a joyful discussion to people making said predictions every year, when there's no inference towards it. So I can understand the 'false hope' argument. But I think it speaks to how much TfB really didn't deliver and why the discourse has gotten so toxic. Even someone who pretty much loved the Spyro series as much as the next guy. I was sort of worried that Spyro was very lower priority game. Also, 10 million sales hype. I can only see people downplaying it for the reason, it's basically just a remake of established series and over 5 years isn't all that impressive, when you compare it to many other games which gotten release since then. But for a 3D platformer series. It's pretty decent. I do like how TfB hasn't forgotten, but it would be really nice if we seen a Spyro project. As I just hope TfB can actually convince Microsoft to actually keep on working on newer titles. It's not like Microsoft is a stranger to teasing comebacks of beloved IPs and not really delivering. I'm looking at Conker and Banjo. I think it's too early to assume that TfB will deliver as of yet, they do tease things. But, it would be nice to see them show something tangible, as it's been 6 years since Reignited. So the discourse is pretty reasonable.
I really believe that crash team rumble was a mistake. It followed the crash team racing design model but that had a good foundation. It seemed like with rumble that they were pushed into a true live service model. The game was directionless and soulless. They just pushed it out with little support. Seemingly in a sink or swim situation. When they were promoting it the devs couldnt explain what the game was which is easy enough to see after playing it. It is a shame that a great dev team spent so much time on that game.
While rumble was fun I did fear it was on its last legs season 3 was life support for it but am looking forward to what’s next in store for Toys For Bob they redeemed themselves from being the skylanders devs to being competent devs who can produce quality charming games
