Thats a big boy......i have a Citizen diver (different model) with eco drive, mine double ticked also when i first got it, but a few hours sunlight and it ran like a champ..It is my fave 'grab and go' watch, keeps excellent time.
Sold these for a brief time when I worked at Citizen, it takes some time to "get" this watch but it's one of those watches that have a slow burn. It's actually pretty cool if you can get it at a good price.
Cool dial! In top down view it reminds me of a Seiko Tuna...with some extra bulk. The extra lume plots next to the date windows on newish ISO 6425 certified divers are no bad thing. I can't stand spaces left empty next to date windows.
Packaging is regional. Mine came in an air tank cylinder. Most regions receive racks of watches without packaging at all, where they then put it in whatever they choose.
It's a nice looking watch. It might be worth checking out that Pagani homage that @Khonjel Singh mentioned! Looks good for people who like this. As a diver myself it does intrigue me, but would have to think twice about the style. It's very military/camouflage looking and I know many people do like it. I can imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger wearing this in the jungle fighting against the alien in the Predator movie!
Nice review! No, I have never paid full retail for Citizen or Seiko watches. I purchased this one (the yellow-hued version w/black dial) for $225. I think the buried/underneath lugs make the Seiko tuna a good comparison, but the citizen ‘Ecozilla’ pro diver is another good comparison point…as is the citizen titanium mechanical diver with a similarly aggressive bezel design.
In 1960 the Bathyscape Trieste went to the bottom of the Marianas Trench 11000M with an experimental Rolex attached to the outside. The watch survived and was still working when they returned to the surface, this lead to the latest Deep Sea Challenge that did the same in 2012 with James Cameron. That leaves the 1,300M record for the Citizen Diver in the shade some what. Interesting watch but a little to big for most people. Excellent video as always Gary. 👍⌚🙄
Have you seen what those Rolexes looked like? The 2012 watch was an incredible 28.5 mm thick, while the 1960 was even thicker, 38 mm. By comparison, a hockey puck is 25.4 mm thick! They were never intended for a person to actually use as a dive watch, and were not for sale to the general public -- in other words, they were a publicity stunt. By contrast, the Citizen entered serial production and was sold as a real dive watch.
Yes, but the Citizen is both affordable and you don't have to pass a "special, but unspecified test', to be able to join a list to buy one, so that's a double win then!
Nice One! I just bought this particular model and will be getting it in the mail tomorrow. Im planning to use it as my daily work beater watch. And to answer your question, no i havent payed full retail price for any of my Seiko or Citizen watches.😄⌚👍// Daniel
The Predator watch😀. I tried it on one day, it doesn’t wear that big due to the small dial. I would get one if it didn’t have a 24mm lug width, good luck finding replacement straps.
At first sight I thought it would look bigger on the wrist, actually looks very nice. Another couple of mm of dial would really make it a good looking watch, maybe a less chunky apperence. I love the eco drive movement, a big fan of solar quartz technology, as I can put on and go and no need to set.
Damn that thing is fugly, each to their own i suppose. Im not opposed to chunky divers as do like the seiko tuna styles. Cheers for showing it off though. Always love seeing something interesting and different.
It's a big case but a regular dial, so it works for me. It's not a dinner plate on your wrist. Btw, no, I would just not be happy unless I paid less than retail, so I always do.
I've had my eye on the black and gilt version of this, alas with my master keeping an eye on the finances I will need to fund it through selling a kindey or child.
I have the Citizen Ecozilla and the crown is on the left side. For me, wearing this bulky watch on the left arm, it's a good thing because the crown don't press at the back of the hand. Sadly they don't do it here 🙄🤷🏻♂️
Don't like the square case its fugly as but I do love Citizen though and bought a Citizen Promaster CB5034-82L yesterday from an Aussie retailer plus a Bulova Luna on a SS bracelet! It should tie me over for a few weeks.
You did a disservice to the watch by not showing it fully charged, gary. My rule of thumb is citizen group for quartz, seiko for automatic and casio for tech.
@@khonjel_singh I went straight to AE to look at that. Lol. It's pretty nice from the photos. Not my style of watch dial but a lot of people will like it. That's a good rule of thumb too, I agree completely! though there is a very good company many people forget about or don't know for quartz, Pulsar, owned by Seiko since 1978 and make great quartz chronographs. I got a solar quartz from them a couple of weeks ago, a Pulsar PZ 5115X, fantastic watch, great quality and stunning looks!
@@facebiter I mean spring drive is a hybrid. Not strictly quartz or mechanical. Citizen quartz as in their eco-drive quartz not to mention those Bulova high beat quartz too. And while it’s fun to love flagship specs like spring drive, have you seen the prices? To me seiko's NH movements are reliable, repairable, replaceable, readily available movement.
Maybe I blinked and missed it, but why not insert some photos of the 1982 version when you're referencing it, especially when comparing the old one had screws. Anyway, I enjoyed the video in any case, thanks, Gary!
I like it, would I buy it? I don’t think so. I have a large wrist, but I think it is a big watch. I have never paid full price for a Citizen, but I have for one Seiko.
Well done for reviewing something different 👍. It is seriously ugly! They have some new models that look better to me with an integrated rubber strap like the BN0230-04E
WTF!? This has to be the ugliest watch it's ever been my misfortune to see. It looks like the wok burner on my BBQ 🤣🤣🤣. You did well to keep a straight face Gaz. Yes, definitely sell it on. I think this is one that should have been left to history and never to be repeated. Great video as usual 😊
There's beauty in ugliness! .... although not in this case 🤣 ... not for me thank you ... but nice to see a big watch review for a change, rather than the usual 36mm girly stuff 😃
Don't get WHY Citizens' diving watches MUST be soooo ugly 🤢🤢🤮🤮?!? + no saphire glass ...👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 I, generally, have nothing against Citizen wathes. I myself have 6 of them, but some models they make, are really - could use some improvement 🤷🏻♂🤷🏻♂
Here is a link to my Bulova Precisionist GIVEAWAY! ua-cam.com/video/M4dsAzPwAC4/v-deo.html
Thanks Gary, fun to see. IMO it’s a tool watch and I’d only wear it diving.
Not my cup of tea, but others seem to like it. Just proves the point that there are no good or bad watch designs, just ones we either like or dislike.
It's the Ankylosaurus of dive watches ... big, clunky, awkward looking but gets the job done.
That is a funky looking diver for sure!
I've got the green version of this watch as soon as I saw it I had to have it love it its a beast.
Lol…brilliant

From what I've seen I personally like it but for nearly $600 it should definitely come with sapphire crystal. Come on Citizen!
That brings back memories. My father used to skin dive when I was a teenager ...and I'm sure this is what he wore :)....now where are those photos?...
I only have one thing to say, “Herman pressure test.”
Lol, I don’t think German would cope!
Honestly this looks like a castle, got all the design elements of one...There is even a citizen in it!!!.😋😋😋
Cheers Gary, be well mate.
Now I know why Pagani design has a new watch. Interesting. Thank you Gary 😊
Absolute monster. Wasn't a fan when you opened the box, but by the end of the video I didn't hate it! A definite dive watch. Proper tool
Thanks Gary 🙏

I got it and love it!! 120 bucks!
a watch face only a mother could love.
Without doubt!
BTW Pagani has a homage of this already. PD-YN009 is the model number.
Incredible. I thought you were joking at first.
Way beyond the size my wrist can handle gracefully, but an amazing watch nonetheless. Citizens are really worth taking a shot at. Thanks for sharing

Pagani Design makes a stainless steel homage of the original watch (PD-YN009) for around $110, w/NH35A.

I actually quite like this watch. It's £199 on amazon at the moment and I think it will get lots of comments!
Someone's already said it, but the size plus the small lug-lug reminds me a lot of a seiko tuna on your wrist. Really polarising design tho...
Yes I paid full price for my limited Edition promaster Bullhead Racing chronograph.
Damn that thing is fugly, each to their own i suppose. Im not opposed to chunky divers as do like the seiko tuna styles. Cheers for showing it off though. Always love seeing something interesting and different.
I like it. Then again, I also own a Casio MD-703! 😅
On your t-shirt, it looks as though the hand is shouting for help because it's in pain from having the mic clipped onto the finger! 😁

A lot smaller on the wrist than the measurements suggest. Always on offer somewhere, £199 @ H Samuel at the moment

Zelos Aurora teal already on his wrist.. :D
Yup, it’s awesome!
@@ILikeWatches2 Nice :) makes me even more impatient for the launch. I will most definitely be getting one
it is a tool watch to work in the water. Nice review btw.
I think this would have looked so much better if they had slimmed down the corner lugs a bit.
£199 on Amazon at moment
Looks like an ashtray my parents had
Thanks Gary 🙏
Not my cup of Tea if that's what you say in the U.K.
The watch that looks like it ate a wasp! 🤣
atb, Kev

Yes, apologies

Citizen for quartz ? What about the seiko spring drive.....

I think this only will look good with a neoprene suit.
It’s a bit of an ashtray…. I suspect a bit of a marmite watch
i love citizen... thats one one am not keen on i would have too try it on first.... cheers
I want to love/like it but there are too many things with this watch that don't like the boxes for me
Would be quite a fun every now and again watch. Yeah not conventionally pretty but very cool
Looks like a Luminox Navy Seals watch.
Very cool and probably practical but I’m not a fan of looks..
Great video 👍
It's interesting and strange...

Super wow
Why does the seconds hand move like that?
👍

Well, at least its unusual...
Pagani design has a fake titanium stainless steel homage. I guess they ran out of Rolex and Seiko....

This camo colorway is odd, the original looks nothing like it.
For less than £200 from Samuels at the moment, bargain!
An aluminium winder on a watch that will be regularly exposed to salt water. Mmm. Stainless would have been better.
Looks like a G-Shock
fun

Looks like Doomsday, he killed Superman.
Citizens version of the omega ploprof lol ugly but for a purpose
It´s hard to find a watch uglier than the ploprof
I want to like this watch, but, eww.

...the ugliest watch i have ever seen... i "mini-dial" and a big "wall-case"... looks like the chinese wall 🤣
Can't get much uglier than this one.
