    Well said at the end, they are a great duo!
    I use the gh6 handheld or for multiple aspect delivery. Here lately I’ve been using the gh6 with native mft oly lenses and I’m happy with the image. The gh5s is a solid tripod camera in my arsenal that I can use as a b cam to the gh6 or s1h. If I’m shooting events the gh6 is my a cam and gh5s is the tripod cam. If I’m filming interviews, gh6 is my bts Cam while the gh5s can be my b cam to the s1h. I love the ecosystem of using s and mft cameras. Panasonic crushes it without compromises for my work.

    We hired someone to shoot video with a Red KOMODO-X 6K. I used my GH5s with V-log All-I. After grading both, I can tell you that there is less of a difference than you might think when using a log profile. You would really need to stare at both for more than 10 seconds to spot the Red Camera in a side-by-side comparison.

    For me it’s not a comparison of specs and data between them, but ergonomics, tweaking the screen, placement of buttons and configurations of menus etc. that makes the GH6 my type of camera.

    Your presentation was insightful. We use a GH6 mostly for narrative filmmaking, e.g., web series & short films; we use 3 GH5S cameras and 2 GH5's for multicam shoots. We recently got the S5ii, which we use for fashion and social media content--photos and videos. However, we do not keep the cameras stuck in those cameras. Sometimes we may use any of the cameras for narrative, documentary, events or client work.

      One camera for great AF performance is great but that’s all I need for stuff that’s impractical or impossible for a solo shooter (fashion stuff is a great example) but I still prefer the GH6 for so much stuff. The look of the footage in decent light is just so nice to me. GH5s is a great stabilized or static can certainly as well and gets used a lot for gimbal moving master shots etc

    Thanks for the video Rhett. I always want to know what's happening in the Micro 4/3 world. I love my GH6. It is my main camera. I also have 2 GH5S's which I can color match with the Gh6 for multiple camera work. I wish I had 2 GH6's but will always keep 1 GH5S. I shot a thunderstorm one night at 8,000 ISO, in HLG and it was clean. So I cranked it up to 12,800. It had a little bit of noise in the blacks. Nothing NEAT couldn't handle. Hi Rhett, on the GH5S did you set in V-Log profile - Noise reduction to minimum Value for the test ? (-5 , default is 0)
    If you suspect there is still some Noise Reduction applied one way to find out is to compare the RAW or ProRes outputs.
    Also what one may perceive as noise could be an extra fine detail and therefore I would also compare the images when applying optimal amount of NR & sharpening in post (or even try to upscale to 8K)

    • @RhettThompsonFilm
      @RhettThompsonFilm  10 місяців тому +1

      Yup! 0 on the GH6 and -5 on the GH5s. There’s still NR despite this but it looks fine it just is artificially boosting especially the high ISOs like 6400+. I don’t have any raw capabilities so I wasn’t able to test that

    @Rhett Thompson - Which Lens was used for the Sharpness test at which aperture? I have both GH5s and GH6 and I find myself that the image sharpness of the Lens used and also where exactly you set the focus at accounts for larger margin then the difference between GH6 and GH5S itself. I don't know the answer myself but your video is great inspiration for me doing same tests.
    You have RAW capabilities if you take burst shot of RAW stills - and stitch them into a video - that way for sure no NR or Sharpening would be applied. What do you think? Not sure if it makes sense to test like this as compression codec applied does make a difference. Interesting would be even doing exactly same shot and comparing GH6 internal ProRes 1.9GBit vs 300mbit H265 I think some NR could be result of the encoder itself.

      I didn’t think about testing raw in that way, but I thought the difference between 10 megapixels and 25 megapixels would be two great.

    For next time, you may want to use a different ISO setting than "all the way down", as the actual base ISO for the GH5s in V-log is 800 (without v-log, 400). Settings lower than the base ISO can cause some odd artifacts, like uneven luma or chroma shifts.
