      They weren’t nearly nice enough! I turn and have been for 4 years. I would love to be half as good as you are.

    You make it look so easy Steve. I know it's not because when I have something to do on the lathe, I always try to have a go at using the skew. My results are pretty modest so far! I will keep trying. Thanks for showing us your techniques. Cheers/George

    I’m glad you slowed down the first part of the video, the second part was normal speed on a Friday afternoon lol. I’m sure your cutting balsa wood you make it look too easy, excellent as always, Pete

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  6 років тому

      Lol! Thanks. Ps. Balsa is quite tricky to turn.

      Yes first time on UA-cam. Don’t worry I don’t intend to do it often. I hadn’t saved the leg in real speed.

    Very nice work, Sir. I wish I had more time to work at the lathe. I retired once about eight years ago, but I am still working. Cann't quite figure that out....! I guess operating heavy equipment is a never ending job. Thank you for you videos...!

    Your mastery and concentration are very, very high
    It's really impossible!!
    Is it possible to work with hard wood in this way?

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  Рік тому

      Yes you can turn hardwood like this. The very hard exotic woods can be turned the same way but you have to take a couple of cuts where you only need one with softwood

    Goofy question: How long is your skew handle? On my Sorby oval skew, I like the long handle when I'm doing planing cuts because I put the handle on my hip, but when I'm shaping, like rolling a bead (also known as making screw backs), the long handle is in my way and I need to be in an awkward position to see my shape. I'm thinking of cutting down the handle and wonder which length you choose? I think I could just stabilize my arm on my hip for planing and don't really need a long handle. It's not like a bowl gouge...

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  6 років тому

      I use a long handle all the time, my methods are slightly different to most and rely on body movements a lot.

    Hey Steve! Awesome work again. What gouge did you use? I have a basic 8 piece kit that works fine but something like that would be great. Also, could you link your tools in the description of one of you videos? That would be great too. Anyway, great video.

    • @woodturner21
      @woodturner21  6 років тому +1

      Hi Berta, Thank you, the spindle gouge is a crown 1/2" spindle gouge, the roughing gouge on the leg is a 1 1/4" Sorby, the Skew is an Ashley Iles 1" flat. I will try to remeber to put a link in future.
