Love how you show everything and explain some of the best videos I've watched as far as working on boat motors liked and subscribed 😊

Good job friend; taking a motor and bringing it to completion adds a lot of soul to both body and mind.

Great tutorial! I just knew that pump housing was going to crumble but you made a great save to test it out.

Very good advice about lubricating the splines where they mate into the bottom of the crankshaft! Thank you for another quality video.

Pretty awesome! My dad used to have a 60s model 33hp Evinrude. Wish I had it for what it is. Love the old engines!

I found that a little dab of vaseline will hold that impeller key while sliding down the impeller over it. Of course, before pulling down on the gearcase, you first had to pull out the retaining pin that locks in the top of the shifting rod against the shifting lever mechanism. Love your videos !

I went to do this job on a very similar looking seven five. When I pulled the lower unit off the gear shaft did not come with it. At the bottom of the shaft was a machined gear that went down into the lower unit reservoir below the impeller. Also there was bo impeller key on the shaft but a small bearing that sat inside the impeller…..sound right?

Really nice tutorial. I have a 1981 Evinrude 4.5. Do you know right off hand if it has a telltale for the water pump?

I enjoy the simple ways in which you communicate with your viewer. Maybe you can help with something that I really having troubling deciding between to motors. One is like the one your demonstrating (1981 Evinrude 7.5hp), the other is a (1957-58 Evinrude 7.5hp.) Both are cosmetically sound, I also know I'm going to fork out a few dollars to get them up and running to top condition. Having said that; I really enjoy working with vintage motors and parts will not be the issue as they can be found. Yet I know that one of the motors is much older then the other. What kind of advise could you give me.
    Gracias

I like the old outboards too. I like the 80s models. I have not done a lot with the 50s models. Ether one will be a great outboard.

I buy the OEM parts from boatnet.com. Most of the time they ship fast. Thank You for watching and commenting.

Thanks again it helped me get this done! I do have a concern though. When I used the original key there was a good 1/4 inch of free play. I used the one that I got from ebay and it fit good no free play. The concern is the key that came with it seemed like a hard plastic. I will see if it lasts. Should there be free play when the impeller is on the shaft?
    Thanks,
    Brian in Mi

My motor did have some play. I did use the plastic key. It was OEM.

Do you clean the inside of that shell. When i took mine off it looked like a real grainy oil inside the part the rudder and bottom end of that connect to the other half. I don't know the names of everything but yours looks pretty dirty too. Thanks

Does the water just spray out not a solid stream?

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  Рік тому +1

The water pump should put out a solid stream out of the overboard water indicator.

The beauty of these engines is that the gearcase pops off and on easily, no shift rod connector. Unfortunately, those plastic housings and upper gearcase cover commonly split like that, especially in salt water. I'm wondering why someone has rerouted that overboard indicator hose like that, instead of leaving it the way it came. Good idea to pull these gearcases off every year to clean and relube those gearcase splines, these engines love to rust those splines together in salt water. And, like Om says, once the splines are rusted together, you have got a big mess for sure. The only other issue that might need to be addressed is the upper water tube grommet, these loved to swell and block cooling flow, especially in salt water.
