    I can definitely see this. And if you're bugging out alone, yea I totally agree. Hopefully if you're bugging out though, you have a small group, like a family. In my family, my wife will pack the 22, because she isn't as fit as I am. I carry the larger rifle for larger game and protection. To each his own, and this is great information to have.

    Also, to conserve ammo, pack a sling shot. Lots of ammo just laying around on the ground. And just like anything else, practice with it, and you will get better.

      With subsonic ammo, the bullet impact on target is louder than the shot. The sound of the action cycling is also louder than the round detonating. I use a rubber coated recoil pin to help with that. It's not as loud as my crossbow. With supersonic ammo you will get a crack from the bullet breaking the sound barrier. The shot will still be much more quiet than non suppressed though, and others will have a hard time pin pointing the direction of the shot.

    Good stuff. Thanks for breaking up the big vid, I will watch them but can't yet. I can't fault your logic. Great advice that even this idiot (me) can understand.
    For where I live in Australia a 22mag has a lot of merit, especially because of no semi auto. But boy I'd swap my left nut for that charger set up.

    I'm digging these short bug out videos. You are correct I do watch for your opinion which I could use. I have the savage msr15 recon and a sig 516. No issues with either. Would you keep the Sig or get rid of it for another di rifle, like maybe a Bravo Company. Or perhaps by a complete upper di for the Sig for when and if the Sig breaks down. Your opinion matters. Thank you

    I agree with the 22lr. You can float a gar with it, take small game and defend your camp. No one need be looking for a gun battle during hard times. If you're firing a 5.56 downrange and empty a mag during a battle, you will go down in prepper history as an icon. It meant at least that many rounds zipped by you and you remain. Possible but not probable. Choose life & common sense and run as light as you can as James detailed the Lil' Ruger and its magazine and x-tra ammo. Hell, Mohammed Ali was big and strong but his approach if you remember was what? Float like a butterfly & STING like a Bee.

    James, Boy do I agree with the .22 philosophy. Look a plastic bottle on the end of your .22 rifle will quiet the shot a lot and if you had to use it for self defence it will surely serve the purpose.

    Keep a cleaning kit along with it , love my 10/22 with its new Magpul hunter stock but not fond of the BX 25 mags, I get failure to feed with them a lot. I bought half dozen box mags they work great ( all Ruger brand) Yeah so the only issue with this gun is just keep it cleaned often because .22lr shits black 😜✌️🇺🇸

    9mm is my bugout caliber but I'm seriously looking at 5.7x28mm to replace it now that Ruger has released a gun in that caliber and may possibly release a carbine that uses the same mags. As nice as it might be to take 1000 rounds, the way I see it, bugout is A to B, I'm not living out in the middle of the woods. I'll have to make due with 148 rounds I have in my current setup.

    2) " You can easily carry 500 rounds of .22 ammo in your pockets ". Again, You are Bugging out and a Ruger 10/22 in ANY configuration is Hard to beat. Its the AK of .22 caliber rifles IMHO., And a Takedown regular version or Charger Takedown ( Which i personally have ) with an added suppressor ? Its obvious Mr. Yeager Thought this through before He made a Brilliant Video.

    22lr great round for hit run. Feeding your self to. I was reading a article in a Vietnam magazine they used a ruger 10 22 to confuse the Vietnamese with hit and run tactics in the dense jungle. Made it hard to pin point where you were shooting from.

      They have comparable weight, but the 15-22 mags are alot bigger.

      I have the CMMG conversion kit and it’s not heavy at all. It’s been more reliable than my 10/22. It will eat anything I feed it. I keep mine with my 10.5” pistol. Very accurate. An excellent choice in my opinion.

    • @davidcbrainard
      @davidcbrainard 4 роки тому

      You’re missing the point. For the weight of a bolt carrier group, you’re basically getting another another rifle. Much more versatile than just one caliber or the other. Well worth the minimal extra weight. Also, an AR pistol breaks down to fit in a backpack just like the Ruger. Based on my experience with it and in answer to the question, this is an excellent option.

    • @o1mtbiker
      @o1mtbiker 4 роки тому

      @James Yeager I understand oz becomes pounds. And more weight means less distance. Cut weight where you can is a must. I don’t have a muffler, but mine weighs in at just under 6 1/2 pounds. Yes it’s heavier, but I wouldn’t say to heavy by any means. Also some people don’t have the option to afford a new rifle and have to use what they already have. To me 100 dollars in ammo is more valuable then a 3-400 dollar rifle with 50rds.

    the 1022's safety, bolt catch, mag catch sights and handling are not like that of ANY fighting rifle. those attributies of the 22 unit are EXACTY those of the AR. All mods that you do to the AR are automatically also done to the 22 unit, Trigger job, scope, night sights, folding stock, silencer, , etc. That can easily save you well over $1000 spent on the 22. Then the 22 saves you 40c per shot for snap-shooting practice. that $400 per 1000 rds saved pays for everything in year or so! It can't be beaten for a shtf rifle. A GOOD 223 silencer makes full power 223's every BIT as "tame' to use as the 22 unit is without the silencer. So your 22 unit practice DOES translate into 223 skills.

    Did you zero at 100 yards? Then just know your hold over for small game inside 100 yards?

    • @bushcraftingmuslim
      @bushcraftingmuslim 4 роки тому +1

      Not suggesting heres what James did, but I hunt every second week or so with a 22lr. From rabbits, foxes to wild goats. I find a 60-70 yard zero ideal. Gives it that little extra. You don't want to, but you can kill coyote sized game at 80-90 yards with a heart shot if there's no wind and the animal is still. They don't make it too far if you are careful. But inside 50 is where I really keep it. Just learn your drop regardless. 140 yards reliable A4 paper size groups is doable for me and my set up, and 200 yard f-off range is known quite comfortably. A bdc reticle with the magnification turned all the way down let's you have good hold overs for F-off accuracy with practice. But if James chimes in, listen to him. I'm a freakin child compared to him.

    if you dont have caches of ammo, gear, clothing and food, you aint gonna make it. Dont be stuck with JUST a 22lr, or JUST a centerfire. Get a 22lr conversion unit for a silenced, shorty AR in 223 and you can have either caliber with a 20 second pats-swap. The 22 unit weighs just 3/4 lb and carries nicely in the thigh pocket of your cammies You should not be out and about in daytime. You need night vision, armor, solar charger, subsonic ammo OPTION. Bowhuters get within 30m of big game all of the time, with hunters messing everything up and with baiting being illegal. At night, with a baited tree stand, you cant get within 100m of them? why not? At 100 m, the 6" brain circle of a moose, big bear or elk is an easy mark, given a braced firing position. Rest assured that a 60 gr Nosler Partition softpoint from a shorty 223 to the brain drops such critters like rocks! Eskimos use such loads/tactics to drop 4000 lb walruses. 50m and you can do the same to deer with the subsonic 60 gr Aquila 22 ammo. Hold shut the bolt and it's literally BB-gun quiet!
