I'm a civilian and law enforcement instructor and I tell people to take that advice, think about it while we're training, then give me their interpretation. Then I give mine.

I remember in an old video James mentioned that a .40 does not hit harder than the 9mm ENOUGH to be worth the loss in rounds and gain in recoil. That’s cleared it all up for me.
@Blake You will always be better at doing the slightly easier thing because it's the exact same skill. If you train to be better at .40 you have become better with 9mm which is almost identical but has more ammo in it and cost less to train with.

I chose the 19 over the 17 several years ago because it was slightly smaller and easier to conceal. Plus you're only losing 2 rounds of capacity compared to the 17. That's a fair tradeoff.

I sometimes carry my colt 1908 vest pocket as a bug not much confidence in it as far as stopping power but better than nothing glock 19 and spare mag is primary
The tighest group I have ever shot was when Jay Gibson was downrange photograhping me. Even Calvin came up to me and said, "That's a nice group." I'm sure he was just being nice, but that was a huge confidence booster.

I’m talking about having huge buff communication skills, a level head, compassion for others(most important one),and the ability to detach your emotions from a situation to do the RIGHT thing. Compromise can be a great tool for peacekeeping and negotiation.
In my defense of having a few .40s, I got my first handguns in the late 2000s when .40 was a lot more popular and I didn’t really know dick about pistol calibers. Now it’s 9 mm all the way......now I need to get some training.
Well, UA-cam did it again, deciding to bring me here. Weirdly relevant, though; I'm a some-time, two-gun carrier. I justify the second carry by the terrain I'll be traveling, and the sort of natives I'll likely encounter. Believe it or not, it is relatively easy to carry a .45 and a 9mm together - concealed. Normally, my EDC is a deep-concealed IWB 9mm; however, some days, I like to carry the .45, also IWB - but occasionally, OWB - which is still under cover, like a shirt or jacket, but much more accessible than an IWB. I'm not a fan of complete open carry, 'cause I'm not too fond of being targeted with unwanted attention. I learned every one of these rules many, many years ago - and they are still relevant.
This is GOLDEN advice from someone who lives it and had plenty experience living it. So practical, common horse sense really. thanx man, DTI is the site?
I agree with ALMOST everything James says, but I disagree about 40 S&W. I love 9mm too, but 40 does it MUCH harder, suppresses better with 180 grain ammo, and has only 2 less rounds in a magazine. I’m either carrying a 9mm or a 40 at all times.
one thing extra about cover and movement let the bad guys waste ammo if you do not have a real target do not waste ammo thank you for your common sense practice and mind set can make the difference
I carry a 1911A1 but I like my ruger LC9S 9mm. I know both go bang however... S#$% happens. Backup is a good idea. I believe each caliber has an application. A job or specific role. Tools in the tool bag. Different tools for different jobs.

I saw a wreck while I was at work, repossession agency, so I responded alone. I was carrying a Walther PPX 9mm which I thought was awesome. German so it had to be good right? I got hit by a van at 60mph and my walther went flying in the opposite direction I was flying. All I got was 8 stitches and only rescued the passenger of the 2nd vehicle that caused the wreck. The driver was still inside. They were fine, I was beat up and when I healed up I went to green ridge shooting range. Cranked out 3 rounds and my walther just quit.
I mean the small penis part is kind of true when you consider the fact .40 cal is just 10mm short and wimpy. Never understood the point of .40 cal when it's just a less effective 10mm just like .38 special is basically a less effective 9mm.

Well to be honest I only carry a 40 cal because I got a really good deal on a great condition police trade in. Ive never had a issue with 9mm or im not opposed to 9mm being my carry, but when you pickup a Glock 22 for 330$ its hard to switch haha
I would like to see the research statistics he has on caliber. Federal law enforcement switched to 40. For most all agencies for a reason. The same reason the military went from 38. To 45. Ballistics matter. Honestly speaking the bullet development is more important than the caliber... He's obviously a gun enthusiast but I prefer specific stats/research that's verifiable over putting someone down verbally (stupid). Lastly nothing beats Shot placement...

Some of the old guys had 9mm Beretta but those were fased out years ago at my last department. I know some guys have gone back to 9mm but 40 and 45 is still most Leo's I knows go too

My philosophy: if you’re stealing my stuff you can have it, i own nothing worth a life no matter how low a scum they are. If you enter my home and depending on the circumstances, if you turn around and leave you just have to worry about the cops. If I see a robbery in progress, i hide and call, not my job to stop a robbery unless human life is in danger, mainly me and mine but others as well. If I see someone being assaulted I will give the creep some options, nuff said. A school teacher in my hometown in Montana was murdered a few years ago. Our first murder in many years. It was committed by two dirtbags from Colorado up here to score drugs for the oil boom workers. After they were caught we found out that the assault and kidnapping occurred on a road I had driven that very morning and I probably missed this attack by just a few minutes before or after. I wish my timing had been better.
I wish more people were like you. I know people have a right to protect their property but have some understanding and mercy, if you se someone burglarizing you’re vehicle stealing stuff or if someone’s (unarmed) breaks into your house or you catch him walking away with something, by all means point the gun at him and let him know what’s up, but come one, don’t kill someone over stealing something from you no matter who he is. That is a life, at the end of the day it really could be he’s going through hard times and he’s hungry. It’s not always drugs or alcohol. Now if your family is in danger by all means empty the whole magazine I could care less. Just saying, just because you can legally, does not mean you should.

Camping in Alaska we carry a 2.5” Ruger Super Redhawk in .480 Ruger. If a griz visits your tent they work pretty well. We don’t use them for CC though. They’re just for real close bear encounters. Handy bird hunting in Montana as well.

I’ll keep it to two cals. 9mm/40s&w It’s my opinion that the argument that you can only have one caliber is kinda negated these days because of the great advancements in the manufacturing end of things. I learned this when I decided I wanted to Nantes to make my own bullets. I learned what most know that you can crank up a normally docile 115 gr. fmj to a BAD ASS ! KILLIN TRASH 124 gr. Peace maker. Conversely you can take a high pressure round like the180 grn. 40 S&W and dial back the weight to anywhere from 165 down to 135 grain. With very nice handling. I found I prefer the 165 , s but CORBON POWER BALL makes a 135 that was just so light it was silly. Really just felt like it was a 9 mm ! Anyway that’s all I have thanks for making this video Mr Yeager always interesting if not controversial. Lol. See ya man.
Michael John Less rounds. Bulkier. No significant terminal improvements. .40 is not worth it, and this is coming from someone who has to carry .40 for work. I’d rather have more 9mm than a separate stash of .40

I had guns then, I have more now lol I carry whatever I feel like and the outcome is on ME, not anyone’s opinion of me or my gun.

Michael John Less rounds. Bulkier. No significant terminal improvements. .40 is not worth it, and this is coming from someone who has to carry .40 for work. I’d rather have more 9mm than a separate stash of .40
In New Mexico we can only conceal carry 1 gun. It’s illegal to have two, but we are a backass state so it makes sense.
