What are you talking about smaller grip, factory yes tiny af, but a $60 Wilson combat module makes more sense to me than buying a new gun. Snapier? Hmmm... nothing the javelin guide rod can't control. More expensive dosnt matter when it comes to reliability and overall comfort.
@@mattcraig4659 so you have yo pay 60$ extra to fix an issue that the shield didn’t have, plus you already paid almost 100$ more than the shield for a gun that’s comparable? The Sig is great and they revolutionized the market with the p365 but I feel like there’s much better options for better prices nowadays.
I've carried a 1st Gen Performance Center M&P9 Shield for about 6 years now I haven't really found any reason upgrade. The Shield Plus just changed that. May wait for the Performance Center, but you can't complain about this one. Great review and compare.
I have to say that you gave a superb demonstration on these pistols. I am a new gun owner ( 6 months ) with no previous experience so this was very informative. I have a s&w ez and a kimber micro 9 ( which I don’t think I will keep it )… that being said I will be looking for the MNP shield plus. Thanks again
Great video with very detailed information on the comparison of both pistols ! I own both a m&p shield and the sig p-365. I have switched to the p365 as my carry due to magazine capacity ( three 12 rd mags ) but my shield I have six 8 rd mags. I don't think you could go wrong with either, BUT ..... for new owners please shoot a couple of boxes of your " carry " ammo through your new pistol to make sure if feeds and functions with that ammo.
I searched for and purchased the P365 Tac Pac. 3 x 12 rd mags and ambidextrous safety standard at the same price as the standard 2 x 10 rd version. Absolutely love the P365 ! The only additional accessory I've put on is a Hogue grip sleeve to add a bit of width for my long fingers. I also have the Hellcat OSP and would recommend either before the shield, nothing against S&W, Love my 686+, but in this concealment catagory they are severely outclassed.
I have the Shield9 early version with that dump truck trigger. I'll take it all day long over the 365. Both are good guns, but I find the 365 toy-like in my hands - which are smallish. I might get the Plus at some point, but really don't need another gun. Also, having been shooting for 40 years, I have come to the conclusion that everything new is just a variation on a theme that already exists. With that comes the thought that these compact plastic wonders are just dancing around eachother, trying to market to a niche - some niche - any niche. When I think about it, my defense needs are unpredictable, but probabilities are that it will come down to mere feet or just a few yards. So, why care so much about sights anyway. I don't. The most rudmentary sights are plenty fine if you practice. I wore a Colt 1908 for years, and a Model 60 as well. neither has good sights, but with a bit of practice at ranges likely to be encountered will have you hitting a pie plate somewhere in the middle at 7 yards with both eyes open and as fast as you can operate the trigger. Just give me a basic gun. The Shield fits that niche.
I disagree about the QC isdues. Ive got about 2000 rds through mine without a hiccup. My understanding was the initial release versions had wrongly heat treated firing pins, whis has been fixed through recall as well as tighted controls during mfg.
@@Futs101 my p365 has a date of 2/21 and I have about 350-400 rounds through mine. I know it’s not much but no issues. Also no signs of primer drag on the shell casings. So far so good.
I own both and for the p365 fans mine has numerous light primer strikes and does jam. Can't argue with how easy it is to conceal but I can't trust it. The shield has never given me a problem so I have to go with the m&p. I carry the shield and my Glocks. Just my own experience.
A big part of price difference is that the Sig comes with night sights ! Haven't shot the new S&W but for EDC and concealability ,can't beat the Sig w/12rd. mags,IMO.
Excellent review. Good info. I own both, had an original shield and loved it. Have moved on to higher capacity. The shield plus I shoot a little better, but with pocket carry the sig with 10 rd carries easily. No bad choice. Have Houge grip on both, would not get rid of either. Also the new shield trigger is very nice.
I bought the Shield Plus Performance with optics this past Friday, and it has replaced my Shield 1st Gen as of today.. It feels exactly the same when putting shots down range and I absolutely love it... I've only put about 300 rounds in the last three days though it, but those optics feel second nature to me already... Thanks for your video!!!!! 👏 👏 👏

I am glad to see a gun store owner chooses a Shield when he has such a wide field of quality guns to choose from. I have Gen 1 Shield that has been heavily modified. I also have a Gen 2 Performance Center Shield with an optic and 4.5 inch barrel. It is unmodified except for a Hogue grip. With the Shield Plus I would definitely upgrade the sights. However, I could still use the holster from my Gen 1 Shield. I believe enough in this gun that it is one of EDC’s. I had my son buy a Gen 1 when the Gen 2 came out. S&W makes a quality gun at a reasonable cost. I have guns that shoot better, but I ave a lot more money in them.
@@napalmstickylikeglue I assure you, this feels nothing like a glock. It is very soft shooting for its size. It has a double captured recoil spring. It also has a nice shape with a great texture. The trigger alone would set it apart from a glock. I would say it feels a lot closer to a VP9 trigger.
Very happy with my P 365. Was a little concerned about a micro-9 and handling. Put Pesrson grip extensions in it and it is very accurate and controllable. To each their own.
Just checked...S&W Shield Plus pistols are selling for $425-500 on Gunbroker (actual selling price) Shield 2.0s have dropped in price and are currently selling under $300. Just a few weeks ago, you couldn't touch a Shield 2.0 under $400. S&W is going to sell a shitton of these pistols and this is going to be a great time to snatch up the 8+1 Shield for bargain prices. The original Shield was one of the most popular pistols for a reason
I like the size of the Shield better than the P365 which is just a bit small for my large hands to get a good hold of. I can shoot a Shield pretty well too. It's still small enough to easily and comfortably conceal.
If the goal is the absolute smallest carry gun then choose the Sig. However the 2.4 ounce difference in weight between the two is negligible, ang pretty much indiscernible to the human body. If comfort, grip purchase, trigger pull, and controllability is the object choose the Shield Plus. I have both and now prefer the Shield Plus for my stated reasons. I have carried the Shield for several days now and forget it is there. Both are good choices so it depends on what is comfortable for you.
Any idea when Shield Plus magazines will be available for sale? It's been almost 5 months since the pistol's release. I want to have extras for range use and two reloads.
@@benjaminponzer4448 i really like the side by side he did so I know what the new shield is like, but it’s comparing a micro to a sub compact. The xl would have been the better contender but I don’t think that’s what the vid was about.
@@alvarojm750 it really is a shield vs 365. The shield plus really is not bigger than the shield. The shield plus now 10 round magazine is basically the same height as the 365 xl 12 round, but you get the same amount of grip zone with the 365 xl as you would with the shield plus 13 round magazine.
Jury is still out for me. I’ve had a SIG P365 and P365XL that were flawless. However, my S&W Shield Plus broke the firing pin spring and the firing pin assembly became stuck in my slide. Had only fired 153 rounds through it after buying it NIB and now it’s a paperweight going back to Smith & Wesson for warranty work and they’re telling me 6-8 weeks!

The one glaring issue with the Ruger is the field strip process. Pushing out a pin and possibly chasing it across the floor during cleaning is a deal breaker for me.
Good video thanks. I have the gen two with the crimson trace it was less than $300 bucks so hard to pass up I’ll hold off on the new ones for a little while and see wear the prices settle.

Be interesting to see how the Sig 365 compares to the new Ruger Max-9. I have the MP 2.0 and liked the feel of the Ruger Max-9 when I handled it at my local shop.
I have owned the P365 for a while and just picked up the shield plus performance. I like the way the shield fits in my hand but haven't shot it yet. I am going to keep both regardless.
Me too, but i think a more fair comparison would be shield plus and p-365 xl. I am intrigued by the shield plus but i have the p365 with the 12 round mags made by pro mag. The pro mags 12 round mags i found for 19 dollars each, half of sig branded mag cost.Due to lack of 9mm in my area i only have 150 rounds each through 3 mags. Only one mag had some issues and that seems to have passed after 40 ish rounds. I am looking for a carry pistol to gift to my father as i had noticed he has taken to leaving his striker fired autos downloaded a round and cocked with a clear chamber as he said it is easier for him to chamber. I had been considering the shield ez.
Great pace to your video. Leave it to a fellow Hoosier to not waste my time. Comparison cuts were also on point. I didn’t feel as though any content was frivolous. I appreciate your quicker paced no nonsense approach, I’m certain many would mirror my sentiment. Keep doing what your doing!
Definitely the shield plus. I own several glocks, m&p's (a shield +), and cz pistols. My boss let me try out his p365.. honestly it's a pretty nice pistol but is too small for my hands and I'm not a fan of the trigger overall. It's really made for smaller hands. I bought my shield + new for 350 with a 50 dollar rebate.
Hello Chris thank you very much for the upload. Very good comparison video. May i ask how many rounds have you shot through you M&P shield daily carry ? And what dontou prefer to shoot 115gr or 124 gr with the same gun? Thankyou
Man seeing all these new high capacity microcompact pistols like the Shield Plua and Ruger Max-9 next to the Sig P365 really emphasizes how tiny Sig managed to get the P365. Still can't believe they hold the same capacity.
Went and looked at the Smith, the P365, and the Hellcat yesterday. I want to point out that in the opening pic, the Smith looks substantially larger than the P365, but in reality it isn't that much of a difference overall. I will say that the trigger on both of these was really nice, and the reset was also outstanding. The trigger and the reset on the Hellcat were also really good too, but the other two were slightly better. The grip of the Sig is SMALL. If you have larger hands like me, you'll swallow up the Sig. The Smiths sights were just Ok, and the grip texture was a bit too aggressive (IMHO) for appendix carry. The Sigs sights and grips were really nice, but the Hellcats were outstanding (especially those sights). So, in retrospect, the grip size of the Hellcat was right between the the other two, the sights are better, it has one more round capacity (flush fit mag), the trigger was pretty damn good, and it was cheaper than the other two... I walked into the gun store convinced I would buy the Smith, and walked out with the Hellcat.
I have a P365 but after the it's so small wore off I found it smaller than I really wanted (grip has a small circumference). This will be perfect for the guy who finds the P365 and Hellcat a bit small. I went the G43X mos route personally. This will be a hit with the guys that still carry shields as you did. People don't carry shields because they are the best at anything. They carry them because they always work.
Just ordered a pkg deal for the Shield Plus "OPTIC READY" 9mm with NIGHT SIGHTS. The pkg includes 1-10 rd mag, 4 - 13 rd mags, a S&W backpack and a simple first aid kit. The pkg MSRP $599.00 with a street price of $525.00. Even though the Smith is a larger gun this deal was a no brainer for me.
Update for the p365 as far as chamber indicator. There is a sliver of metal that pretudes out if there is no round in the chamber. If it is flush then you know there is a round. You can see it next to where the bullets eject. You can physically feel this too
With the higher barrel line of the Shield vs. the P365, is there more recoil in the Shield? Unfortunately there is no shooting of these guns in this review. I passed on the P365 because though I like how much less snappiness there is compared to other guns in it's size class, it seems to "hammer" my palm. I chose the P365XL for the better control, less recoil, and higher capacity. It fits my hand perfectly, and I don't get that hammer feel in my palm like with the regular P365. The low barrel line of the P365XL is what I credit for the better control and less recoil compared to other guns I tried in it's dimensions.
I like the longer grip of the Shield Plus compared to the P365. The Shield Plus has a tiny bit wider grip, and slide length, and it’s only 2.4 oz. heavier than the P365. The ammo capacity between these 2 pistols is negligible. I think what it really comes down to is your individual comfort holding and firing either weapon. I have strong hands and forearms, so I’ve never experienced the “snappy recoil” that so many shooters complain about in micro-subcompacts like the P365, Hellcat, Glock 43, MAX-9, or Shield Plus.
Excellent and very detailed and useful review, thank you! What holster do you use for your current 1.0 Shield. I have a 1.0 Shield with a Crimson Trace LG-489GH green laser attached and have been using an off-body carry bag but want to get a holster and carry on-body. Any recommendations?
Both great guns I own a MP Shield and added a Magguts spring for extra 2 rounds and that will do it for 9 plus 1 or 10 plus 1 respectively. Now my fav one is my Glock 26 Gen4 with the mag ext that will do a 12 round mag plus 1. Like my shield love my Glock. Good vid. 👍
I own all 3 p365s.,my go to is the sas...the ported barrel is awesome on recoil! Best thing about the sigs is you can switch out modules...nothing beats the sas slide on the XL module! Zero recoil with the full grip! You'll never want to put it down!

From my experience individuals who don't like how the p365 shoots have weak wrists..... Perhaps that's why it wasn't for you.(ironically it has less snap than the hellcat and the Smith & Wesson shield Plus) 🤣

Just grabbed the Shield + bundle with night sights, optics ready, extra mags, first aid kit, and backpack. The rebate makes it a crazy deal. It also fits my hand better than the 365.
Grabbed the same bundle, amazing little gun
Change your grip numbnuts.
@@mattcraig4659 the 365 still has a way smaller grip and it’s way snappier than the shield, the mags and gun are more expensive with less features. I feel like the only good thing going for it is the conceilability and the sig brand.
From a money stand point it just didn’t make sense when I bought mine. Grabbed the same bundle with optics ready, night sights, 4 extra mags, and a little gun backpack for 450$. The Sig is great and they revolutionized the market with the p365 but I feel like there’s much better options for better prices nowadays.
I traded my S&W M2.0 today for a Shield Plus! Couldn’t be happier!!👍🏻
Very cool, i want the shield plus, i carried a shield for a few years off and on be nice to have 6 more rounds same size , awesome!
Really like my smith 2.0 compact, I'm going to pick this up as well
Excellent comparison. The S&W trigger looked better to me. Thank you.
It is better. I've shot both and the Plus has stepped up its trigger. But for $500+ i dont know why they didnt make it optics ready.
It's substantially better. Best in class
I got a 365.....and I add the 365 XL frame to make it 12+1......and I love it

Yep. Loved how you sped through it. It often seems people are delaying making a point for some reason.
Good review. It helped me decide to go with the Sig P365.
Enjoy the QC issues
I disagree about the QC isdues. Ive got about 2000 rds through mine without a hiccup. My understanding was the initial release versions had wrongly heat treated firing pins, whis has been fixed through recall as well as tighted controls during mfg.
@@Sam1628 LOL
@@Futs101 my p365 has a date of 2/21 and I have about 350-400 rounds through mine. I know it’s not much but no issues. Also no signs of primer drag on the shell casings. So far so good.

I own both and for the p365 fans mine has numerous light primer strikes and does jam. Can't argue with how easy it is to conceal but I can't trust it. The shield has never given me a problem so I have to go with the m&p. I carry the shield and my Glocks. Just my own experience.
Very good overview of this new S&W offering. Well done.
A big part of price difference is that the Sig comes with night sights ! Haven't shot the new S&W but for EDC and concealability ,can't beat the Sig w/12rd. mags,IMO.
At first I wasn’t willing to change my first gen shield either but you may have just convinced me
Definitely an improvement over the 1st gen Shield. The plus doesn’t seem thicker looking at it but it does feel better in the palm of the hand.
I was hoping you would compare both with the flush magazine.otherwise awesome and expert comparison!
I bought the Shield Plus Performance with optics this past Friday, and it has replaced my Shield 1st Gen as of today..
Love my P365
I have both and I have to say that the MP Plus wrecks the 365 in every way
@@Kazymedic so you basically purchased a taller Glock 26?
@@napalmstickylikeglue I assure you, this feels nothing like a glock. It is very soft shooting for its size. It has a double captured recoil spring. It also has a nice shape with a great texture. The trigger alone would set it apart from a glock. I would say it feels a lot closer to a VP9 trigger.
@@Kazymedic it may not feel like a Glock 26 but it is very similar to a Glock 26 in size and capacity. Except it's about 30 years behind the curve.

Just checked...S&W Shield Plus pistols are selling for $425-500 on Gunbroker (actual selling price)
Shield 2.0s have dropped in price and are currently selling under $300. Just a few weeks ago, you couldn't touch a Shield 2.0 under $400.
S&W is going to sell a shitton of these pistols and this is going to be a great time to snatch up the 8+1 Shield for bargain prices. The original Shield was one of the most popular pistols for a reason
Love my Shields-- just bought the Shield Plus but I'm keeping my Shield 2.0 too.

A more even comparison would have been using the 365 xl. Appreciate the side by side though.

When you get down to this size compact guns I don’t think 1/4 inch makes much difference.
Comes with the "standard Smith and Season cardboard box". I don't know why but I LOL'd for real.
Got my plus a week ago for about 500, really happy with it!
Wondering how the new Ruger Max 9 stands up to either one of these two. Another great video as always Chris...first time I've ever seen a dollar bill comparison... very cool idea.

The one glaring issue with the Ruger is the field strip process. Pushing out a pin and possibly chasing it across the floor during cleaning is a deal breaker for me.

Exactly
Yeah I have a 365 and it's great for carrying but I'm still not comfortable with the small grip. I think I'd like this Shield better.

Very intelligent review ... I happen to own the p365 ....
Great comparison video. Very well done. Most helpful in my decision process.
Good vid. 👍
Which one is built better, higher quality, more durable and reliable? Im thinking about getting the shield plus performance center.
I own all 3 p365s.,my go to is the sas...the ported barrel is awesome on recoil! Best thing about the sigs is you can switch out modules...nothing beats the sas slide on the XL module! Zero recoil with the full grip! You'll never want to put it down!
I sold my SAS. I could live with the odd sights, but the take down/cocking lever is a nightmare to use. I loved the aesthetics and the size of it.
I am between a Glock 43x and the sig this review really makes me want the sig esp as it’s so compact.
