WD1 has the most impressive open world game metro system besides GTA IV IMO. WD1 has 23 stations across 2 lines. Both lines have 14 stations each with 5 stations serving both lines. Trains also show up frequently in WD1. Trains serving blue line has a blue stripe while trains serving red line has a red stripe. Blue line is the suburban line while Red line is for inner city.
It is very dumb when they had Watch Dogs Legion in London, you can’t take the tube?! Like the city with one of the biggest public transport system, you can only use the stations as mere teleport. Biggest downgrade honestly, though at least there’s buses and Cable Car for Watch Dogs 2.
"Public transportations" is something that actually makes me want to give more attention to a open world game, and Watch dogs was definetly a great surprise to me that it is almost as good as GTA4. It is not as good since has few lines and does not have taxis to take you around the map. But still not perfect in GTA4, which still missing bus line services.
The first mafia game also had a great elevated metro line and trams on the original PC release. On the later console re-release, you were sadly no longer able to ride them.
The graphics of Watch Dogs was quite the contentious topic back when the game came out, because there was a huge discrepancy between what was shown in the trailers and what console players got. The PC experience does still hold up very well nowadays
Many such cases unfortunately. I remember the hype up for "The Day Before" when the IGN trailers came out. The game ended being developed with free assets

I gotta say, it was certainly the experience, I made it almost all the way to the end of the game by taking the train. And now I'm watching the guy who analysed the subway in GTA IV praise this game and reminding me of it, thank you for this awesome video

I love Watch_Dogs. The game is so immersive and the city looks so incredibly cool. When I played through the game last time I actually used the trains to escape police a few times. Really unique and fun.
9:04 This works best for commuter lines (with a length of more than 25km) in a sprawling city with a low population density. A large part of Transperth Mandurah and Joondalup lines occupy the freeway median. This arrangement works in WD1 too, since WD1's blue line feels more like a commuter line outside of the Loop.

I absolutely agree about the lighting. The old r46 have this warm yellow feel while the R142s have such a blinding white which is really headache inducing late at night.
Thankfully in recent times, manufacturers have mitigated this by having an intelligent color cycling system based on the hour of day. Some trains of the newest trains have it, it's really nice! Thank you for the support!
Thank you for the support! Unfortunately Watch_Dogs 2 has a very small system, but I will make other entertaining videos. My next video will be an essay about something we don't think about very much...
One more thing, about WD2 there's one thing missing in the game, well the good news is: the San Francisco cable car is there, but the bad news is: the BART is not there.
@@TheTransitDiaries exactly, especially there are some areas like Oakland and Silicon Valley would like to take the BART for a reason.(Despite in real life, there is an ongoing extension of the BART all the way to Silicon Valley)
Even though I've never been to Chicago and don't really intend to visit, the detail and overall "vibe" of this recreation of the L is one of the highlights of this game for me. There's a mod you can install for better textures which might help with some of the blurrier signs. There's also a smaller mod somewhere in the WD modding Discord that fixes the train interiors not being visible when going just a bit further away from the trains. For people who, like me, love both WD1 and rail public transit, it's definitely worth installing those small improvements 🤓
Train cars in WD1 have 4 windows between the doors unlike 3 windows between doors of IRL L-Train cars. Train wheels also swivel independently when the train turns (also true for WD2 trams).

Great video! Watchdogs’ L train is honestly one of my favorite public transport network in gaming. Also, you doing a cities skylines series would be great, but absolutely get that train content creator pack. They have an insane underground open air metro plaza, it’s so good to watch it in action
oh they sound like air brakes. these trains use hydraulic brakes. also the marker lights are only on one end of each car, not both like in the game. the side profile is immaculate though. looks like theyre running 3 car trains, but the cars are attached in pairs. so it would always be an even number.
Heck yeah Watch Dogs L train for the win! Completely support the idea of a Cities Skylines series too, plenty of assets and mods on the workshop to make amazing stuff. Imma also suggest you check out Cyberpunk 2077's monorail system! It's weirdly complicated and complex but atmospheric for sure :]

Can't wait for GTA 6 to come out for you to cover its transit system. Honestly, I was surprised that Vice City/Leonida is said to have decent transit network, but I guess I was just not familiar enough about Florida's railway network.
I'm excited too! It really depends on the scaling. Miami is not as transit heavy as other cities, but if they do a large scale, the network could be larger than the big cities in other games that were made at a smaller scale.
Nice video, I really enjoyed the transit system back then and never used it to teleport but to see the landscape 😄 I might have missed that but did you mention that you can also stand inside the trains like a passenger and not just on top like I first expected? I think thats really cool too (even though it might be more common than I thought 😄)
Could be fun to analyze the Cyberpunk 2077 NCART metro lines added in 2.1 update. Despite the fact the game didn't have a metro system for most of its life, it seems to be surprisingly decent with five different lines driving around the city

I noticed in the suburban sections that the train tracks are completely exposed with no fence separating them from the nearby roads. Is that what it's like in actual chicago?
Well actually the nickname El or L comes as a shortened version of elevated since the CTA’s Rapid transit services going as far back to the 1890s when they were operated by independent companies have always been elevated (excluding the Milwaukee Dearborn and State Street subways on the blue and red lines opened in the 40s and 50s)
